Belmont Stakes: Rain Clearing Out Of Northeast In Time For Race, But Muddy Track Conditions Could Remain

After a morning of rain and stormy skies, conditions will improve for Saratoga Springs, New York, ahead of the Belmont Stakes horse race Saturday evening. But while the skies may be dry, the track may not be. A weather station in Saratoga Springs recorded nearly 1.5 inches of rain since midnight at noon ahead of the race, which could contribute to muddy track conditions. While Saratoga Springs was not under any significant weather alerts on Saturday, there was a flash flood warning nearby in Albany, NY. The race day schedule has already been altered, with two races being moved off the turf to the main track. (MORE: How Weather Can Affect Horses At The Kentucky Derby) Glimpses of sunshine will become more frequent as the day progresses with temperatures warming into the low 70s by post time at 7:04 pm. Every 2025 Kentucky Oaks horse name, ranked

Every 2025 Kentucky Oaks horse name, ranked The Kentucky Derby isn't the only big-name race at Churchill Downs in 2025. That's right, it's time for the Kentucky Oaks, with a bunch of fillies competing to win on Friday. And as we do for the Derby contenders, we're ranking the best names of the horses in case you're a casual bettor who just wants to put your money on. We did this last year. What's my criteria? As it is with the Kentucky Derby horses, it's a combination of how original it is, the prestige and whether it sounds like the kind of name that shows how tough a thoroughbred can be while facing its peers. We ranked all 14 of the contenders' monikers from worst to first. Let's dive in: 14. Quietside I wish it was louder. 13. Bless the Broken I appreciate the sentiment but I would like for this horse not to be associated with breaking. 12. Simply Joking Very Serious would be a better name. 11. La Cara Meaning "the face." But horses don't win with their faces! 10. Early On Feels like this one will fade late. 9. Quickick Not a bad name, but feels like a typo. Shouldn't it be Quickkick? 8. Anna's Promise We've reached the "not a bad name but there's better out there" tier. 7. Drexel Hill Same here. 6. Good Cheer We're getting closer to the really good names. 5. Ballerina d'Oro Rolls off the tongue, and anything associated with gold is good. 4. Fondly Feels like a good horse name. I always like the ones that sound amazing when it's "AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME WITH FONDLY TAKING CHARGE!" 3. Take Charge Milady Maybe a bit to whimsical but whatever, this one's fun to say out loud. 2. Tenma I've seen this one as a horse from heaven or a demon. Either way, that works. 1. Five G As in, that's what I'll win if I bet on this horse. Perfect.
