Tamkeen Launches First-of-its-kind Program to Train 50,000 Bahrainis in Artificial Intelligence
The Labour Fund (Tamkeen) launched a first-of-its-kind bundle to train 50K Bahrainis in Artificial Intelligence by 2030 following directives from His Highness, Chairman of the Board of Directors. This initiative reflects the importance of investing in Bahraini talent to equip them with highly in demand skills and provide them with training and development opportunities that can facilitate their success through programs and initiatives designed to upskill national talent and enhance their competitiveness, making them the employees of choice in the labor market. The initiative include three main tracks to provide AI training. The first track, aimed at leaders and executives, is designed to shift the mindset of executives in Bahrain towards proactive AI adoption enabling them to utilize AI applications effectively in their organizations. The second track aims to provide general AI training to Bahrainis to equip them with the knowledge required to utilize AI tools effectively for automation, data analytics and to enhance productivity, while the third track is aimed at AI specialists to train them to build AI tools. This initiative aligns with Tamkeen's strategic priorities for 2025, which focus on enhancing the position and competitiveness of Bahrainis in the private sector, equipping Bahrainis with suitable skills for career development in the private sector and prioritizing enterprise growth, digitization and sustainability and supporting the development of the ecosystem surrounding the labor market and private sector. Cohort 8 of the ‘Raise' Programme Launches with 11 Startups
Spring Venture Services has launched Cohort 8 of 'Raise: The Art of Fundraising', a two-week intensive bootcamp designed to equip startup founders with the skills and knowledge needed to secure investment and scale their businesses. The programme is supported by The Labour Fund (Tamkeen) to prepare startups pitching at the ongoing StartUp Bahrain Pitch Series. The programme is facilitated by Spring Venture Services, and global venture capital firm Salica Investments, providing founders with capital, expert in-house capability, and access to MENA's leading investors to increase the likelihood of startup success. Since its inception, 'Raise' has successfully conducted seven bootcamps in preparation for 15 StartUp Bahrain Pitch events, helping 104 startups refine their investor readiness and secure essential funding. The programme provides entrepreneurs with hands-on workshops, fireside chats, and one-on-one office hours, ensuring they gain a strong foundation in fundraising, pitching, and business strategy. A key highlight of the programme is the StartUp Bahrain Pitch Series, where participating startups will have the opportunity to showcase their businesses before an esteemed panel of judges and an influential audience. These events are organised in collaboration with key industry stakeholders, including the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), Bahrain Economic Development Board, and Bahrain Development Bank (BDB), and StartUp Bahrain. Marketplace & E-commerce BizBay is a digital marketplace that connects businesses for buying, selling, and investing, facilitating seamless transactions and growth opportunities. Cardue offers a platform for digital car care services, simplifying vehicle maintenance and repairs with on-demand service options. Ihdaa redefines gifting by integrating charitable donations, allowing users to send thoughtful gifts while supporting worthy causes. Finance & Business Services Safer provides innovative travel financing solutions, making it easier for individuals to plan and fund their trips. New Expat Residency Scheme To Boost Economy
Investors and skilled expats will be able to apply for permanent residency, designed to attract longer-term capital and talent. The new measure is part of Bahrain's economic recovery plan, set out in the 2025-2026 state budget alongside a raft of other policies aimed at boosting growth and curbing debt. Every year, the government aims to place 25,000 Bahrainis into work and make room in the labour market for 8,000 new graduates. Employer needs The Labour Fund, Tamkeen, is leading this effort, offering training tailored to employer needs. Labour fees will also be adjusted to narrow the cost gap between hiring Bahrainis and expats – an imbalance long criticised by the public. Efforts to improve the business climate are also moving ahead. 'Sijilat', Bahrain's online registry, is due for an upgrade, while planning permits are going digital to reduce delays. Tamkeen's Chief Growth Officer Mr. Khalid Al Bayat reaffirmed that Tamkeen's support to employ and promote Bahraini employees at Ibn Al Nafees Hospital is in line with Tamkeen's objectives to enhance employment opportunities and career development for Bahrainis in the private sector across all industries. 'The healthcare sector in particular offers substantial opportunities for the employment of qualified Bahraini personnel across various specializations and the support provided to Ibn Al Nafees Hospital contributes to increasing the presence of Bahrainis in this vital sector through supporting the wage increment for 55 Bahrainis working at the hospital in addition to the hiring of 34 Bahrainis employees,' added Mr. Al Bayat.
