Scotland's best ice cream shops to enjoy a cone with dreamy views
Stewart Tower Dairy, Stanley, Perthshire Surrounded by scenic Perthshire countryside, this ice cream parlour is a masterclass in farm diversification, with field to fork cleverly becoming cow to cone. The herd of Holstein Friesians are described as 'the backbone' of the operation at Stewart Tower Dairy, producing the milk used in the gelato-style ice cream which, to date, has been made in more than 250 flavours. If you love animals, then the views from the Roundhouse Cafe will be bliss. The pygmy goats are great fun to watch as they play in their enclosure, with other farm residents including sheep, pigs and ponies. For those in the mood to stretch their legs, Kinclaven Bluebell Wood is less than a 10-minute drive away. While it takes its name from the vivid flowers which carpet the ground each spring, it is a joy to visit year-round, home to woodpeckers, pine martens, deer, stoats and red squirrels. Gerri's Ice Cream Parlour, Stenness, Orkney Walking in through the door, it's impossible not to smile when greeted with a veritable rainbow of flavours on offer – all Orkney-made ice cream. We're talking everything from vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, mint choc chip, toffee ripple, coffee, banoffee and lemon curd to Highland Park whisky with marmalade, rhubarb and custard, rum and raisin, blueberry and raspberry swirl. Gerri's is the perfect pit stop for anyone exploring the Heart of Neolithic Orkney monuments, with the Stones of Stenness and the Ring of Brodgar only a few minutes away – you can stand outside the shop and gaze across the Loch of Stenness to both sites. It is just round the corner from the Maeshowe Visitor Centre, which hosts fascinating exhibitions about archaeology. The latest, Ness of Brodgar, runs until this autumn. This is also the check-in point for tours of the nearby Maeshowe Chambered Cairn. Loulou's is a magical mix of traditional sweet shop, coffee house and gelateria, selling Italian recipe ice cream, milkshakes, hot cookie dough, waffles, toasties, sandwiches and cakes. The much-loved shop moved into the unit after it was previously home to a barber shop. Bosses of O A Goll put the unit up on the market after it had been in their family for generations. It first opened in 1896 and has been passed down through the family, but it went up for sale earlier this year. But fans of The Little Parlour were thrilled to find out it was moving into the space, with many congratulating them on grabbing the "great spot". The ice cream parlour already has a successful store in South Queensferry, which comes with incredible views over the Firth of Forth. There's a great load of history with this place, and it's been lovely to meet with so many people this morning and chat about the shop Bosses at The Little Parlour It has been a staple on the high street for years, and over time, it has built up a huge number of fans and followers. Customers often rave about the ice cream shop online, with many impressed with its indulgent marshmallow and Oreo cookie ice creams. While others gush over their delicious fruity blood orange, mango and passion fruit flavours. Bosses took to social media to share the exciting news about the store opening today. Popular coffee shop to open new branch in trendy Glasgow neighbourhood They explained that there are still a "few bits to be done" as they posted snaps of the almost-complete store on Facebook. But they said they "just couldn't wait" any longer to welcome new customers. The post read: "Aaaaand we are open! Please pop by to see the new shop - 28 Raeburn Place, Stockbridge. "There are still a few bits to be done, but we just couldn't wait to open the door and welcome you! "There's a great load of history with this place, and it's been lovely to meet with so many people this morning and chat about the shop. "We will see you there soon!" Followers flocked to the comments as they congratulated the team on their big opening and wished them well with the new store. 'PRIME POSITION' BEFORE the unit was home to The Little Parlour, it was operated by the barbar shop O A Goll. The space was out on the market and Rightmove was advertising it at £2,083 pcm. Their ad said: "The subjects comprise a self-contained retail unit arranged over the ground and basement levels of a traditional single-storey building held under a flat roof. "The premises boast a prominent glazed frontage and are accessed directly from Raeburn Place, benefitting from the extensive footfall in the area. Internally, the subjects are currently fitted out to facilitate its previous use as a barber shop. "The ground floor currently provides an open-plan space suitable for multiple retail uses whilst the basement can be excellently utilised for additional storage space. "Stockbridge is one of the most affluent suburbs of Edinburgh, situated less than one mile from the city centre. Raeburn Place is the main commercial thoroughfare in the Stockbridge area. "The subjects occupy a prime position towards the east end of Raeburn Place. Stockbridge offers a high end mix of both local and national retailers and charity shops as well as a number of thriving independent restaurants, cafés and bars." One person said: "That's great news, well done and lots of luck with your new addition." Another added: "Huge congratulations!! That's a great spot!" They opened their doors on Sunday, with locals wishing them 'the best'. Their first shop boasts views across the Firth of Forth, with rave reviews of their fruity blood orange and mango and passion fruit flavours, along with their indulgent marshmallow and Oreo cookie ice creams. Posting online, owners said: "Exciting News! Opening from Sunday. "We've recreated The Little Parlour at 28 Raeburn Place. Thanks to the cast of dozens who have helped us get to this point. More pictures coming soon or drop by to see for yourself and grab a Stewart Tower Dairy ice cream." One local resident responded: "Huge congratulations!! That's a great spot!"
