Kylie Minogue was my first CD - seeing her perform was not what I expected

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video As per her 2007 hit: 'Wow, wow, wow, wow.' Kylie Minogue is not consigned to the past, even if it is nearing four decades since her breakout 80s track, The Loco-Motion. Alongside – oddly – Elvis Presley, Kylie's 2001 album Fever, with Love At First Sight, In Your Eyes and Can't Get You Out Of My Head, was my first CD. Experiencing her live over 20 years on was an experience I will never forget, and one I was not expecting. I thought seeing Kylie would simply be a warm, familiar burst of sunny nostalgia all these years on, but she was everything and more, with outfit changes galore, whiplash dance moves, and a voice that never, ever falters. In 2025, the 57-year-old is past, present and future. She is a chart-topping discography of pop, disco and even country-inspired bangers dating back to before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Right now, Kylie is the only solo female artist to have performed over 21 times at the O2, as she explained last night, while clutching her chest, shaking her head and wiping away tears. But Kylie is also the future. She's spearheading the LGBT+ music scene, with album Tension, from which her global mega-hit Padam, Padam was born. It was clear last night that she's a modern day icon as much as an 80s, 90s, or 00s one, with dramatic cries of 'Mother!' audible from youngsters in the crowd. Cultural relevance partied alongside nostalgia, with fans desperately waving signs to signify it was their 50th and 80th Kylie show, demonstrating just how multifaceted her influence is. This unusual melting pot of fans made for one hell of an atmosphere. Come Into My World cut through beaty pop hits like Get Outta My Way with a 90s trance-like romance, while Better the Devil You Know united 20,000 strangers into one huge hug of a party, everyone safe in Kylie's experienced arms. At no point did Kylie stumble, misstep, or sing a dud note. She was spectacular and heartfelt from start to finish. Kylie has so much love for fans that she sang three mini-songs acapella at their request – Hand on Your Heart, Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi and Midnight Ride. More Trending A highlight was Dancing, her 2018 track which veers mysteriously into country and got the audience swaying and toe-tapping in unison. When Kylie stripped things back for an acoustic version of Say Something, with all the fuss of lights, synthy beats and dancers gone, like a true professional megastar, she shone. After a sultry, dimly-lit and powerful turn in Slow, the last three songs of the show were unbridled euphoria. All The Lovers was a floaty, enchanting pop explosion and the highlight of the evening, before Padam Padam saw Mother enter the room. I looked around the O2 during the closing song of the evening, Love at First Sight, and all I saw was pits-in-the-air jubilation. That's the feeling Kylie gave me when I was six, and one she's still conjuring over 20 years later. Got a story? Kylie Minogue keeps 'active' and mind 'stimulated' by working

Kylie Minogue doesn't want to "always talk about ageing" as she works to stay "active". The 56-year-old pop star has said she feels "a bit more settled within myself" and that working is keeps Kylie "active" and her mind "stimulated". She told "I'm a bit more settled within myself." She added: "I hope I won't always be talking about [age] and there is a moment where we can just be – knowing that there's support around and we are never alone – because it is wonderfully freeing and liberating not to be boxed in by boundaries of 'you can do this' and 'you can't do that'. "I feel like this ship can sail a bit easier and function better without all that drag on it." The 'Padam Padam' hitmaker has thought about what could happen if she took a few months off "to concentrate on health and mindfulness and all that good stuff", but she does not think it would result in any benefits. Kylie added: "But then I realise that work keeps me active and keeps my mind stimulated. It keeps this Gemini brain of mine going. I'm not ready to hit the pause button just yet." Meanwhile, conversations around menopause and motherhood are encouraged in society, but 'The Loco-Motion' performer feels "a little sad for generations past", where people were "less understanding about what a woman goes through". Kylie said: "The conversations about menopause, friendship, motherhood, not-motherhood are great, and it does make me feel a little sad for generations past where there was less understanding about what a woman goes through. "Being a person and a woman is complex, so I think we take the win where we can and move with the times, but I think if we get obsessed with putting an age on everything, it's just taking it from another angle rather than moving past it."

Rita Ora shows off her incredible figure in racy white bra and tiny shorts with tassel belt while performing as she supports Kylie Minogue on tour

Rita Ora wowed fans as she took to Vancouver's stage in a racy white bra and tiny shorts, while supporting Kylie Minogue on tour. The Poison singer, 34, showcased her jaw-dropping figure in the laced co-ord which was accessorised with thick belt featuring mesh tassels. The British songstress completed the show-stopping ensemble with glamorous white high heel boots and accessorised with a chain choker ensemble. Rita put on a vibrant performance while performing as the Aussie music legend's supporting act at the Pacific Coliseum. Earlier on Monday, Rita debuted a dark wig with a fringe as she posed up a storm on one of her 'off days' from supporting Kylie on the US leg of her world tour. The star - who usually sports curly, honey tresses - showed off her figure in the snaps as she wore skimpy green neon shorts and a white T-shirt. Presumably taken in her hotel room in Arizona, she snapped a series of mirror selfies and uploaded them. Rita completed her look with black leather ballet pumps and fixed the camera with a sultry stare. Her post comes after she shared behind the scenes snaps on Instagram last Wednesday while supporting Kylie tour in Miami. She flaunted her incredible figure in the daring skintight lace and satin costume which she paired with towering knee high white boots. Rita left her long blonde tresses loose and draped a coordinated crocheted veil over her head as she crouched down backstage while posing for photos. The Poison songstress later pulled on a red Miami Heat basketball shirt ahead of taking to the stage in the East coast. The former Masked Singer judge performed a number of her hits at the Kaseya Center as she joined Kylie on her Tension Tour. Rita will be joining The Loco-Motion hitmaker for the majority of the US leg of her tour as a special guest. Rita was joined on stage by her dancers and in a fitting surprise for the crowd she performed her unreleased new single HEAT. Delivering a stunning performance, the high energy set also included some of her biggest hits such as Your Song. Teasing the new single on stage Rita said: 'I'm just gonna play you my new single because its called Heat and it just makes sense being here in Miami. It's coming out pretty soon.' Rita is supporting Kylie for the first leg of her tour after she previously revealed that Kylie's 2023 mega-hit from Tension, Padam Padam, was nearly given to her. The synth-pop banger - penned by Norwegian singer-songwriter Ina Wroldsen and producer Lostboy - was a viral hit for Kylie. But several artists were asked if they wanted to record it, including the Anywhere singer, because they didn't feel it was a Kylie song.

If civil servants have to make the grade, MPs should too

I see that the government is planning a cull of civil servants and will be aiming to incentivise underperformers to leave (9 March). I wonder whether a similar plan is envisaged to deal with politicians of a likewise disposition. If so, we had better prepare for general elections on a much more frequent basis – provided of course that they can be arranged by civil servants of an acceptable JordanCrowthorne, Berkshire Reading the letters expressing different points of view on Jack Vettriano (Letters, 9 March) I was reminded of an old cartoon that shows two people in a gallery looking at John Constable's The Hay Wain, with one asking the other: 'It's a lovely picture, but what does it mean?'Peter PhilpottPatrick Brompton, North Yorkshire Re Jack Vettriano's work, I recalled my 1950s physicist headmaster quoting Claude Bernard's 'Art is I; science is we' after trying to explain Boyle's law to fledgling sixth Roger MerryBath 'Laura has a pleasing voice' (Letters, 9 March) reminds me of my brief stint in the school choir. I lasted until they worked out where that 'bloody row' was coming GarnerOxenhope, West Yorkshire I felt a tinge of sadness that King Charles chose a cover of Little Eva's song, The Loco-Motion, rather than the original (King Charles pays tribute to 'marvellous' Bob Marley as he shares favourite songs, 10 March).Linda RheadHampton, London Do you have a photograph you'd like to share with Guardian readers? Jimmy Kimmel Laughs Over Fox Calling JD Vance ‘Cool': ‘He Even Sits Backwards in a Chair Sometimes'

Jimmy Kimmel couldn't hold back his laughter when it came to Fox News' praise for Vice President JD Vance. After days of bloated Vance memes overtaking the Internet, the politician finally responded to the jokes. Last week, conservative reporter Julio Rosas wrote on X that he can confirm Vance 'has seen many of the memes/edits of his pictures and thinks it's a funny trend.' This led to a segment on Fox News where one correspondent called Republicans 'the cool party now' and saying of Vance, 'He's like a cool guy.' 'Yeah, he's a regular Spuds MacKenzie, you know? I hear he even sits backwards in a chair sometimes,' Kimmel joked on Monday night. It should be noted that these Vance memes were not created to laugh with the Vice President. The first one came after Vance and Donald Trump's widely covered and criticized meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. After Vance claimed that Zelenskyy has not said 'thank you' to the United States for supporting Ukraine during its war with Russia, the first of these memes emerged, featuring a distorted Vance saying, 'You have to say pwease and tank you, Mistow Zensky.' That post has been viewed on X 13.2 million times and sparked a trend of people editing Vance's face. 'It's depressing to see these non-people in positions of power here in our country,' Kimmel continued. 'But I feel like it makes it even more fun when someone like King Charles for instance, who unveiled his Apple Music playlist today, opens his mouth and shows the world how strange he is.' The comedian then played a clip of King Charles saying that one of his favorite songs — 'The Loco-Motion' — is 'music for dancing' and that it has 'that infectious energy, which makes it, I find, incredibly hard to sit still.' 'We need to get him on 'The Masked Singer,'' Kimmel joked. Watch the full monologue above.
