Liam Neeson's Naked Gun reboot latest: comedy cast includes Pamela Anderson
The teaser trailer for the new Naked Gun film has finally been revealed and, between unforgettable images of Liam Neeson's underwear and references to OJ Simpson, it's a wild ride. Liam Neeson famously has 'a very particular set of skills', and in the upcoming reboot of Naked Gun, it looks like these will include disguising himself as a schoolgirl and attacking people with a sharpened lollipop. The reboot will see Liam Neeson play Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., son of Lt. Frank Drebin, the lead character of the first three films played by Leslie Nielsen. The Naked Gun franchise began with the Police Squad! series in 1982 before it became a film franchise, famous for sending up cop drama tropes and ridiculous visual jokes. The reboot of the action-comedies was confirmed by Paramount Pictures in 2013, but the project seemed to have been forgotten until October 2022 when the film was officially greenlit with The Lonely Island's Akiva Schaffer directing. Paramount are keeping the details close to their chests, but here's what you need to know so far. Taken's Liam Neeson is confirmed in the main role of Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., and if the trailer is anything to go by, he's taken his first full length comedy in his stride. The 72-year-old actor has an impressively long CV, and is known for his roles as Oskar Schindler in Schindler's List and Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, as well as featuring in blockbusters such as Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. It's not his first go at comedy though – he played himself in BBC 2's Life's Too Short and more recently Chief Constable Byers in Derry Girls. When asked about how he felt about testing out his comedy skills, Liam Neeson told ComingSoon: 'It has to be proven. So I'm slightly nervous of it. A little Stephen Colbert sketch or Ricky Gervais, I'm okay with because it's short. But a whole film, we'll see.' Pamela Anderson has also been confirmed in a 'femme fatale' role, after her most recent role in indie-drama film The Last Showgirl saw her nominated for a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. The ex-Baywatch star's autobiography Love, Pamela was published in 2023, coinciding with her recent Netflix documentary, Pamela, a Love Story. Her role is not revealed by the trailer, but Neeson told PEOPLE: 'She's funny and so easy to work with. She's going to be terrific in the film.' Paul Walter Hauser will play Captain Ed Hocken Jr., son of, naturally, Captain Ed Hocken, originally played by Alan North in the TV series and George Kennedy in the films. Hauser is best known for playing Stingray in the Netflix series Cobra Kai as well as voicing Embarrassment in last year's Pixar blockbuster Inside Out 2. He is an actor and wrestler and is set to play a role alongside Jeremy Allen White in the upcoming biopic about Bruce Springsteen, Deliver Me from Nowhere. Also confirmed for the new film are The Strain's Kevin Durand, Youtuber and actress Liza Koshy, Succession's Danny Huston and The X-Files' CCH Pounder. Very little has been revealed about the plot for the reboot, but it is thought it will follow similar lines to the originals, where Frank Drebin accidently discovers a sinister plot and must attempt to resolve it. In the trailer released on April 3, Neeson strolls into a hostage situation at a bank, dressed as a schoolgirl. After being confronted by one of the bank robbers, he removes a ridiculous latex mask and reveals himself as Frank Drebin Jr. The teaser also reveals the lead characters and other police officers paying tribute to their dads, showing pictures of the original Naked Gun actors. As many viewers will remember, OJ Simpson played a big role as Detective Nordberg in all three original films. In an on-the-nose move, when it comes to the son paying tribute to his dad, Nordberg's picture, he looks knowingly to the camera and shakes his head. The film is now confirmed to be released in the United States on August 1 later this year, but in the meantime, we've attached the trailer so that you too can be slightly disturbed by the sight of Liam Neeson in some strawberry pink bloomers.

‘Saturday Night Live' Highlights: Jack Black Pumps Up the Crowd at Studio 8H and at Home
After last week's slightly languid 'Saturday Night Live' episode hosted by Mikey Madison, there was no doubt that Jack Black needed to bring the energy and boy, did he not disappoint. Following a pretty standard cold open featuring James Austin Johnson as Trump announcing his tariffs, as well as yet another appearance from Mike Myers as Elon Musk, Black took to the main Studio 8H stage as if he was being shot out of a cannon. Though initially unsure if he should take another spin as host, the band playing Aerosmith's 'Back in the Saddle' prompted Black to grab a mic and use the entire studio as his stage. Not only could Bill Burr and Kieran Culkin (both currently in the Broadway revival of 'Glengarry Glen Ross') be seen in the crowd, but if you look closely, a few faces from 'School of Rock' were visible as well. More from IndieWire 'The Last of Us' Showrunner Says Bella Ramsey Is 'Certainly Grown' Enough to Play Ellie in Season 2 Kenan Thompson Wouldn't Mind Being a 'Forever Cast Member' on 'Saturday Night Live' Though all of Black's live sketches offered at least a few giggles, if not an outright cackle, the one that really showed off his comedy chops was a pre-taped bit that doubles as a commercial for both Flamin' Hot Cheetos and the hemorrhoid treatment Preparation H. While the conceit is funny enough, Black's over-the-top presentation and forceful enthusiasm for the combination of both products brings the gag to a whole other level, making this one of the best commercial parodies 'SNL' has done in quite some time. While 'The Lonely Island' is no longer a full-time part of 'SNL,' their impact on the show has remained, with pre-taped musical sketches now a staple of the variety series. Not all of these bits have landed in the absence of 'The Lonely Island,' but last night's 'Goth Kid on Vacation' was top tier, harkening back to the glory days of 'I'm On a Boat' and 'Dick in a Box.' Featuring Kenan Thompson and Ego Nwodim as a Jamaican singing duo, the song is a jaunty ear-worm that recalls the one sibling in most families unable to enjoy an easy-going vacation in paradise. Michael Longfellow is hilarious as the eponymous goth kid, with Black offering a killer emo-inspired solo in the middle of the song as well. Colin Jost and Michael Che have been delivering 3-pointers all season at the Weekend Update desk, proving why they've been mainstays on the show for over a decade, but last night, Nwodim ate them both up for a bit that recalled the Def Jam style of stand-up comedy from the 1990s. Referencing the recent news that Trump's White House Correspondents' Dinner would break with tradition and not feature a comedian as host — even after Amber Ruffin had already been announced for the job — Nwodim decided to offer her own skills to show that you can still be funny without referencing politics. Instead, Nwodim's jokes focused around the food being served at the function and not being able to find a good man. Things went off-the-rails when she tried to get the audience to participate, proving that sometimes the best part of 'SNL' are the moments you can't plan for. Again, all of the live sketches last night were better than many featured during 'SNL 50,' purely based on Black's own strong sense of timing, as well as the cast's comfort working with a true professional who is on their level or higher. However, the one that stood above the rest came a bit later in the evening, with Black playing a band leader performing on a pier near 'Bass Lake.' As he offers others to join him on stage for a rendition of Tom Petty's 'Freefallin',' a host of what we'll politely call 'gator-trash' appear, ready to perform. The only problem is that they all insist on playing bass, a notion that soon gets out-of-hand, as the intensity of the sound begins the compromise the structure they're standing on. 'Saturday Night Live' returns next week, April 12, with host Jon Hamm and musical guest Lizzo. Liam Neeson stars in ‘The Naked Gun' reboot: Trailer, release date, and first look
Paramount has officially released the first trailer for the highly anticipated The Naked Gun reboot, starring Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen's iconic detective from the original franchise. Directed by Akiva Schaffer (The Lonely Island), the reboot blends absurdist comedy, high-energy action, and nostalgic humor, including a nod to O.J. Simpson from the original trilogy. The trailer, unveiled at CinemaCon 2025, showcases Neeson's comedic transformation, including a scene where he disguises himself as a schoolgirl with a lollipop before taking down a gang of criminals. Fans can expect a fresh take on the 1988 cult classic, which was celebrated for its over-the-top humor and slapstick action. Produced by Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy) and Erica Huggins, the film follows in the footsteps of the original trilogy, which includes The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991), and Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult (1994). Originally planned as a reboot starring Ed Helms, the project has been in development since 2013. In 2021, McFarlane took over to rework the film, leading to its current iteration. The Naked Gun reboot is set to hit theaters nationwide on August 1, 2025.

Seth Meyers shares bathroom origin story of Jon Hamm 'SNL' sketch: 'Write it up!'
Sometimes inspiration strikes as nature calls. Back in October 2008, the Saturday Night Live gang was eating dinner at one of creator Lorne Michaels' regular restaurants, Lattanzi, to toast the week's host, Jon Hamm, before heading back to the office to crank out the week's script. "And I remember," Seth Meyers said on a recent episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast. "I went to the bathroom on our way out, and I walked out of the bathroom and saw Andy [Samberg], and I said, 'I just had a sketch idea: Jon Hamm's John Ham, the ham you could eat in the bathroom.' And you said, 'Write it up!'" he recalled to his former costar. Related: Bill Murray says SNL costar Gilda Radner used to 'wet her pants' laughing: 'She'd have to run out of the room' In the sketch, Hamm explains the role of an ad executive, which he would know from his part at the time playing Mad Men's Don Draper. He said that he was there to speak to the audience about a product that didn't need "any glitz or gloss," because it spoke for itself. As sentimental music played in the background, he said that, with John Ham, people would never again have to make the choice of whether to spend their lunch break eating or going to the bathroom. The meat was located in stalls, on a dispenser opposite the ones for toilet paper. He demonstrated by pulling some of the meat off and taking a bite, which elicited big laughs. The sketch aired on October 25, 2008, the first of three times that The Morning Show actor has spent a week in Studio 8H. Hamm, who has popped up for frequent cameos over the years, is scheduled to host for a fourth time — just one away from the Five-Timers Club! — on April 12. Meyers said there aren't many other sketches he can recall the exact moment he wrote them. "By the way, I'm not like talking about it like it's incredible or anything," Meyers told his cohosts, including Samberg, who reassured him it worked."I can talk about it without the worry of having been the one to write it, Seth," Samberg said. "It's a perfect host piece. It's a moment that Jon Ham as an idea is red hot in the world, and everyone's super amped that he's on, and everyone loves Mad Men. Except me, because I hadn't seen it, but it just immediately is what SNL's about." Meyers said that he'd written it "in the time it took you to watch it," but he seemed proud. Related: Every Saturday Night Live season 50 host and musical guest: Jack Black, Jon Hamm, more "Jon Hamm, two minutes. Again, in and out. Doesn't waste any time," Meyers said. "I rewatched it, and it made me happy." Watch the "Jon Hamm's John Ham" sketch above, and listen to the full episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast below. Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly
