War epic with John Wayne and Sean Connery 'is the best D-Day movie ever made'
The Longest Day is a 1962 war film about the D-Day landings at Normandy on June 6, 1944, during World War II - and it's been hailed as the best D-Day movie ever made The Longest Day, a 1962 war epic, vividly portrays the Normandy D-Day landings. The film was directed by three individuals - Ken Annakin handled the British and French exteriors, Andrew Marton oversaw the American exteriors, and Bernhard Wicki was responsible for the German scenes. The Longest Day enjoyed immense commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing black-and-white film of its era. Cornelius Ryan penned the screenplay, which was based on his own book, with additional contributions from writers Romain Gary, James Jones, Jack Seddon, and David Pursall. The Longest Day boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring the likes of John Wayne, Kenneth More, Robert Wagner, Richard Todd, Robert Mitchum, Richard Burton, Paul Anka, Steve Forrest, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda, Irina Demick, and George Segal, among others. Several actors made cameo appearances in the film, and many had served in the military during the war, including Henry Fonda, Leo Genn, Eddie Albert, Kenneth More, Rod Steiger, and Richard Todd. Notably, Richard Todd was one of the first British officers to land in Normandy during Operation Overlord and took part in the assault on Pegasus Bridge, reports the Express. To ensure the film accurately represented the events of the war, the production team consulted with numerous real-life D-Day veterans, including Allied and Axis participants. Upon release, The Longest Day garnered widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences. The film earned five Academy Award nominations at the 35th Oscars, including Best Picture, and secured two wins - Best Cinematography (Black-and-White) and Best Special Effects. Critics praised the film with one reviewer hailing it as "a solid and stunning war epic". Another said: "It is hard to think of a picture, aimed and constructed as this one was, doing any more or any better or leaving one feeling any more exposed to the horror of war than this one does." In a separate review, the film was described as: "A far cry from the gore-drenched Saving Private Ryan, legendary producer Darryl F. Zanuck's heartfelt recreation of the D-Day landings is, in its own way, every bit as memorable." One critic further praised it, saying: "It is, and will most likely always remain, the definitive D-Day picture." Another fan said: "The Longest Day is the all-time top movie for D-Day..! ! Made in the 1960's and in black-n-white, it tops SPR as the go-to movie for historical accuracy.." One audience review praised the film as a definitive war classic, saying: "This is an absolute classic War movie. Yes, it is long but tells about the events of D Day from all perspectives. Steller cast." Another added: "The cast is immense and the movie is one of the greatest war movies ever made." While a third said: "A great all star movie. While Saving Private Ryan has by far the best action scene of the landings (or maybe any battle scene), this old timer still reigns for scope and retelling the story of the Normandy Invasion." The choice to present The Longest Day in black-and-white was particularly appreciated by one fan who said: "I thought it was amazing. The incredible detail and brilliant cameos. It was tragic seeing the loss of life and carnage on the beaches. I am glad it was in B/W." The Longest Day can be rented on Amazon Prime Video.

I saw unprecedented scenes on my way to Goodison Park this morning - this doesn't happen in England
Talk about 'The Longest Day'... Evertonians were up bright and early for 'The Last Dance' with 'The Grand Old Lady.' After 133 years at Goodison Park, the first purpose-built football ground in England and venue for the most top flight fixtures, prepared for her final Premier League fixture as Everton entertained Southampton in a high noon early kick-off on the Sabbath was unprecedented, but so were the scenes in the streets of L4. I left the car in my usual spec but despite arriving over three-and-a-half hours before the game was due to start, I only just got my space. The environs of the stadium are usually still pretty empty when I park up long before the start to begin my pre-match duties for the ECHO, but as I walked up to the arena where – like thousands of others today – I watched my first match and where I have spent the bulk of my football life, it was quickly evident that I was far from the only attendee to have forgone a lie-in for an encounter that had a kick-off reminiscent of a Sunday League kickabout rather than a grand spectacle in the upper echelons. READ MORE: Everton vs Southampton LIVE - Goodison Park last game, how to watch, channel, score and stream READ MORE: What Everton supporters must know about Goodison farewell including 'dress code' and show details The pavements were filling up quickly with others, decked out in royal blue, all marching in the same were already gathering around the Abbey pub on Tetlow Street while a small boy held a blue flare. As I crossed the street onto Goodison Road itself, thousands of Evertonians were in place for an historic occasion that my colleague Joe Thomas, along with others, had declared was now 'A party rather than a wake' after last week's announcement that Goodison would be spared the bulldozers to become the new home for Everton's women's side when the men's first team relocate to the magnificent 52,888 capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next hear about stuff like this in places like Turkey and South America, but this was not the kind of typical scene you see in British football. But then Goodison Park is no typical stadium and Everton no typical club and their unique status is shining through today.

LEVI FOSTER TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘WALTER' FEBRUARY 21, A POIGNANT TALE ABOUT ALZHEIMER'S
TEAMING UP WITH ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION FOR THE LONGEST DAY FUNDRAISER AND BENEFIT CONCERT MARCH 20 IN NASHVILLE / -- Nashville-based, Lynchburg, VA native, Levi Foster is set to release the touching track 'Walter' on February 21 (pre-save HERE) but today he has released the lyric video – watch HERE. The poignant song tells the heart-wrenching story of Walter, who is living with Alzheimer's and Julie his daughter who loves and looks after him. 'I wanted to write this song after co-writers Sabrina Stewart and Court Taylor shared their personal stories,' says Foster. 'Sabrina had a grandfather with the middle name Walter who passed from Alzheimer's, and Court also had a grandfather affected by the disease. Telling the story from both sides brings into focus how hard Alzheimer's is on the person suffering and for their loved ones.' Foster will team up with Alzheimer's Association to raise money for The Longest Day with a free special benefit show March 20 in Nashville at Live Oak. On June 20, the summer solstice and longest day of the year, thousands of participants from across the world come together to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's through a fundraising activity of their choice. Says Foster, 'Partnering with The Alzheimer's Association was one of the first things we talked about as a team when we decided to release the song. Music has a profound impact on individuals, often bringing up deep emotions and memories. Collaborating with them through this song will hopefully enhance awareness and support for those affected by the disease.' For those who cannot attend the show but want to donate, they can read more about The Longest Day and give HERE.
