Why Lady Gaga fans are furious about her new concert
Longtime concertgoers know that the price of seeing their faves perform has been on an upsetting trajectory for too long (and the older you are, the more likely you'll remember grunge legends Pearl Jam spearheading one of the first charges against Ticketmaster (LYV) back in 1994). Unfortunately, the problems are far from solved. The majority of high-profile performers still use Live Nation and its subsidiary Ticketmaster to sell tickets to their concerts, and while it makes sense to pay a higher price to see an artist like Lady Gaga versus a small indie band that's lesser known, the cost of even a single ticket is enough to send even a financially well-off fan into a panic. Don't miss the move: SIGN UP for TheStreet's FREE Daily newsletter For example, in a Reddit discussion about Taylor Swift's Eras tour that took place from 2023 to 2024, some users confessed to paying as much as $10,000 for a pair of seats. While others went for more affordable nosebleeds for a few hundred bucks, the message was loud and clear: seeing these artists from a decent seat in the house might cost more than your mortgage. Knowing all this, it's no surprise that when presale tickets for Lady Gaga's The MAYHEM Ball tour went on sale on March 31, the prices caused some upset among her fandom (who go by the nickname "Little Monsters"). Thanks to Ticketmaster's dynamic pricing system, which adjusts ticket prices in real time based on demand, some single seats cost as much as $5,000. In a post on Reddit, a fan called out Lady Gaga for not choosing to turn off the dynamic pricing option, which artists are able to opt out of when working with Ticketmaster and Live Nation. Artists such as Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, The Cure, and Oasis have all opted out in the past. Related: Ticketmaster's monopoly explained by a legal expert "There's no excuse. Other artists have shown you can apply pressure on Ticketmaster and get this feature turned off," user Daltire wrote. "I'm extremely disappointed in Gaga that there are face-value tickets in my home venue (Toronto Scotiabank theatre) going for like $5,000 and nosebleeds for $500-600. You shouldn't need to be rich to attend a show. So many of her fans (LGBTQ+ people, transgender people, sex workers, working class young people), cannot afford that. It wasn't like this before. Gaga should have done something to prevent this, period. I love her still but I'm so disappointed." While fans have continued to rail against Ticketmaster, going as far as to organize Take Down Ticketmaster and file three individual lawsuits, the issue rose to a larger scale when the Justice Department filed an antitrust lawsuit against Ticketmaster in May 2024, citing monopolization and unlawful conduct. That suit is ongoing, although a recent ruling by US. District Judge Arun Subramanian squashed Ticketmaster's request to throw out the claim stating that Live Nation seduces artists into using its services to gain access to its large system of performance venues. President Donald Trump also signed an executive order on April 1 that addresses the issue, directing the Federal Trade Commission to "take enforcement action to prevent unfair, deceptive, and anti-competitive conduct in the secondary ticketing market." The order also directs Attorney General Pam Bondi and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to see that scalpers reselling tickets at a higher cost comply with all Internal Revenue Service rules. Badu discussed new music and her love of touring in an interview with Billboard while attending the Billboard Women in Music event over the weekend. The five-time Grammy winner was asked in the interview what it was like to work on a full album for the first time since her 2010 release, "New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)." "I mean, I've put out other music but it feels good, it feels natural to me," she said. Erykah Badu opens up about exploring fashion, her work as a doula and more Badu then discussed her love of playing music out on the road, calling herself a "touring artist." "As a touring artist, we create moments. As a recording artist, I create memories, but those moments are very important to me," she said. Badu recently expressed similar sentiments in a separate interview with Billboard published March 19. "That's what I do. I am a performance artist. I am not a recording artist. I come from the theater. It's the immediate reaction between you and the audience and the immediate feeling. The point where you become one living, breathing organism with people. That's what I live for. It's my therapy. And theirs, too. We're in it together. And I like the idea that it happens only once," she said at the time. Lady Gaga coming to Miami this summer as part of "MAYHEM Ball" Tour. Here's how to get tickets
Gaga, yes! After much anticipation, Lady Gaga is coming back to Miami this summer as part of a new international tour. The 14-time Grammy Award winner announced on social media Wednesday the arrival of "The MAYHEM Ball" tour for this year to showcase her latest album MAYHEM, which received widespread critical acclaim and love from her fanbase of "monsters", debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. "I wasn't planning to tour this year after my shows in Singapore but the incredible response to the new album inspired me to keep things going," she said in the caption. In response to her announcement, the Kaseya Center said that Lady Gaga will be performing there on Sunday, Aug. 31, and Monday, Sept. 1. "This is my first arena tour since 2018," she told the Kaseya Center. "There's something electric about a stadium, and I love every moment of those shows. But with the MAYHEM Ball, I wanted to create a different kind of experience — something more intimate — closer, more connected — that lends itself to the live theatrical art I love to create." According to the tour poster shared online, Miami is one of the only five U.S. cities that Lady Gaga will be making stops at during her international tour — the other four being Las Vegas, Seattle, New York City and Chicago . The last time Lady Gaga was in Miami was for her Chromatica Ball tour in September 2022, in which Hard Rock Stadium was the final show of the tour. However, the concert was cut short due to a lightning storm that night. She apologized to her fans online after the abrupt cancellation , saying that she wanted to prioritize safety over anything else, which is why her performance ended virtually in the middle of it. For the Miami show, tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday, April 3 at 10 a.m. on for both shows. There will also be a Ticketmaster Artist Sign Up Window starting now until 8 a.m. Sunday.
