Jonathan Scott Poses with Zooey Deschanel's 2 Kids in Rare Photo as She Celebrates His Birthday: 'Practically Perfect'

Jonathan Scott is getting silly with his soon-to-be stepkids. On Monday, April 28, Zooey Deschanel, 45, shared a carousel of photos on her Instagram in honor of her fiancé's birthday, which included a photo of the HGTV star, 47, posing alongside the New Girl alum's two kids. Scott could be seen making a surprised face, holding Deschanel's daughter Elsie Otter, 9, and Charlie Wolf, 7, whom the star shares with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik. Both kids wore homemade masks and posed alongside Scott in the rare photo. "Happy birthday to the person who makes each day a joy to live. Jonathan- you are practically perfect in every way 😍," Deschanel sweetly wrote to Scott, who responded, "Thank you. You make me feel so loved 🥰." Related: Zooey Deschanel Shares How Her Kids Charlie and Elsie Are Taking an Interest in Her Career: 'It's Kinda Awesome' Back in February, Deschanel spoke with E! News about how her two kids are taking an interest in the entertainment industry."They're really into making little movies,' she told the outlet. "They love movies. We watched The Maltese Falcon with them the other day, and they were totally into it.' 'I make little short films with them,' she continued, telling the outlet she occasionally stars in and directs some of their projects. 'But then they start doing them on their own too, so it's kinda awesome.' Scott added that he wasn't surprised that her kids are following in the footsteps of the giant movie-making family. Deschanel is the daughter of six-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Caleb Deschanel and actress Mary Jo Deschanel. Her sister Emily Deschanel, 48, also has found success in Hollywood, starring in hit television shows, like Bones, and big box office movies, like My Sister's Keeper. "I would expect with the history of film in your family,' Scott said. 'I feel like they have to keep the bar raised.' In 2023, Scott shared that over the past few years in his relationship with Deschanel, he's taken on an active role in Elsie and Charlie's lives and considers himself their "bonus dad." "I always knew I would be a great dad — former clown, magician, I can build stuff — and it's been incredible," he told Today in 2023. "You see your life transform, your priorities become your kids, and when they have a performance that they're doing at school, or working on some of their homework, or whatever it might be, it's a joy." However, Scott has also admitted that his role as a "bonus dad" isn't always so simple. "One thing that was a struggle early on was that the kids didn't necessarily run up and jump in my arms and give me a big hug," he explained in a video on his website last year. "I also remember several times where they'd be out with other kids and someone would say, 'Oh your daddy's so funny,' and they'd be like, 'That's not my daddy, he's my Jonathan.' So that would hurt a little bit." Read the original article on People

Parkway celebrates anime and MacGuffins throughout April

The Parkway Theater will spend April celebrating MacGuffins and anime. The south Minneapolis theater and concert venue has announced two series that will take place throughout the month, with one focused on classic films from director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. The second will bring in films with famous MacGuffins. (A MacGuffin is an object that is central to a film's story, but is ultimately meaningless. One of the most famous MacGuffins is the falcon statue in The Maltese Falcon. It doesn't really mean anything in itself, but it's the entire reason the story plows forward.) The Studio Ghibli series starts with Spirited Away (2001) on April 5. It'll be followed by screenings of Howl's Moving Castle (2004) on April 12, My Neighbor Totoro (1988) on April 19, and the less-loved but still charming Ponyo (2008) on April 26. All the Ghibli films will play on Saturdays at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, "MacGuffins! at The Parkway!" kicks off on April 3 with a 35mm screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and its Ark of the Covenant. On April 10, it'll pay a visit to the "great whatsit"-inspired glowing trunk of Repo Man (1984). Those are followed by Pulp Fiction (1994) and its illuminated briefcase on April 15 and The Evil Dead (1981) on April 21, a day when Ash definitely won't mess with the Necronomicon. Like every series at the Parkway, there are all-movie passes available, which save you a few bucks and come with a bag of popcorn during each movie.

Light fantastic: the road trip that inspired Paris, Texas

In preparation for his 1984 film Paris, Texas, Wim Wenders set out on a road trip through Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California. The trip resulted in the photo series Written in the West, which was first exhibited in 1986 at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. 'It was another way of preparing for the film, a different kind of research that had less to do with locations than with the light in the west,' says Wenders. Written Once is at Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York, until 15 March 'Although these photos were taken in connection with the film we made in that part of the country, they are quite independent of it. They were all made in locations where we did in fact shoot the film. But these large-format photos were my own personal, private way of preparing for it' 'Once, I drove to a screening of Paris, Texas together with Harry Dean Stanton, in a limo that almost stretched over two blocks. Even in the middle of New York, Harry was still Travis sitting in the back of his brother's car and travelling through the desert in silence' 'I had never made a film in that landscape and was hoping that taking photographs would sharpen my understanding of the light and landscape, my sense of empathy with it' 'Once, I was in Montreal, when Jim Jarmusch was showing Down By Law there. In my memory, it was raining when I took this picture of Jim, and I was sure he was holding an umbrella. But there was no umbrella in the photograph and certainly not on the negative. Instead, I discovered Roberto Benigni in the background' 'Very often, the ideas you have in advance about the colours in a film quickly begin to look tired. So my only aim in taking these photos was to improve my own capacity to react to colours; to become more open to colours; simply to get to know them better. I took a whole lot of photos purely for the colours, which was quite a new departure for me' 'In 1941, the actor Elisha Cook Jr had a supporting part in the movie The Maltese Falcon by John Houston, based on Dashiell Hammett's novel by the same title. In my movie about Hammett's life, Elisha played a cab driver' 'In the middle of the godforsaken Valley of the Gods, and after not seeing any other car for hours, we came upon a car parked by the side of the road. It was jacked up and a man's legs were sticking out from under it. We stopped behind it to see if we could help. The woman standing by the troubled car turned out to be Isabella Rossellini, the man crawling out from under it was none other than Martin Scorsese' '[This is] the lounge in a little hotel, which had been closed down for a long time, where I saw all these incredible armchairs in all those colours. I tried to get in but it was all locked up. At last I found an old man who had the keys and he suspiciously let me in. The 'surface' that interested me was the colours of the armchairs, four or five different colours. They were in a semicircle, which looked slightly theatrical in itself. You didn't even feel that the characters were missing, because it was as if the armchairs were talking to each other' 'John Lurie, great actor and sax player, and obviously quite a kisser too' 'Once, together with Dennis Hopper, we drove from Los Angeles all the way up to Barstow in the middle of the Mojave Desert, to see Nick Ray. Miloš Forman was shooting the movie version of Hair, and Nick played the general in it, in spite of the cancer he had just been diagnosed with. Dennis knew Nick from a long time ago, when Nick had given him a small part in Rebel Without a Cause. Dennis had become best friends with James Dean. Later that night the conversation inevitably turned to James Dean and Nick proudly declared: 'I taught him how to walk!''
