More info Darragh Ennis shared his insights with The Chase contestants after a contentious choice was made. The team comprising Billy, Hannah, Jan and Andy joined forces, hoping to outwit one of Britain's finest quiz brains. Andy was the first contestant to take on The Chaser, Darragh "The Menace" Ennis, following a £5,000 win in the Cash Builder round. Deciding to stick with his earnings, Andy aimed to secure his place in the final chase. He did not disappoint, successfully contributing his £5,000 to the group's cash pot. Jan then stepped up, having earned £4,000 in a nerve-wracking quick-fire round. She breezed through her face-off with The Menace, securing her spot in the finale alongside Andy. Hannah also raked in £4,000 but chose the cautious route, accepting a lower offer of £1,000 from The Chaser. Despite some viewers feeling incensed by her choice, calling it "pathetic" and a "waste of time", reports the Liverpool Echo. (Image: ITV) However, on social media, Darragh called it a "sensible decision." Proving her doubters wrong, Hannah made it back to her team, boosting the collective prize fund to £10,000. Darragh imparted some sage advice for those critical of Hannah's strategic move, stating: "People who haven't been on the show don't understand the show. The money isn't real until you win it. You have shown that taking the lower offer is often the right decision." Billy, who was the last contestant left aiming for a spot in the final, stunned audiences by accepting The Menace's lower offer of £-2,000, against his teammates' advice to stick with the money he had earned. His commendable effort saw him return to his team members just in time for the final chase. Despite bringing the prize pot down to £8,000, host Bradley Walsh commented: "I think you've made the right decision getting yourself to the final." Darragh Ennis added: "You're absolutely right because a few of those were educated guesses. It could've easily turned the other way. So on this show this is exactly the right decision." In the crucial final chase, Billy, Hannah, Jan and Andy notched up 18 points, a score strong enough to outpace The Chaser, resulting in their take-home of £2,000 each. (Image: ITV) Post-victory, Darragh Ennis reflected on the team's performance: "Without the two players that went low, you might have a single digit up there, because Billy and Hannah each answered a huge number of questions. This is the reason why the low offer is sometimes the right one." He continued: "Billy and Hannah taking the low offer is the reason you won that game." Bradley added: "Tactically, you played the right game." The Chase continues today at 5pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

The Chase's Darragh Ennis tests fans with quiz question that only 5% of people answer right

The Chase star Darragh Ennis, better known as The Menace, has shared a seemingly simple quiz question on his social media which the majority of people can not answer correctly. The Chase star Darragh Ennis has presented fans with a question that only those among the top 5% of brains will be able to answer correctly. If you're a fan of quiz shows, there's a good chance you've tuned into ITV's The Chase, where hopeful contestants attempt to outrun the Chaser by answering a series of tough questions. These Chasers are professional geniuses, the very best of UK quiz gurus and they regularly prove their talent by beating teams on the programme. Darragh Ennis, better known as The Menace on the Bradley Walsh quiz show, not only stumps contestants on the telly but also delights followers with brain teasers and intriguing facts on his social media profiles. ‌ In one of his recent TikToks, the Chase star sent viewers into a frenzy, revealing that a staggering 95% can't crack his clever question. In his video, Darragh says: "Do you want to know a really easy sounding quiz question almost everybody will get wrong? Seriously, about 95% of people will get this wrong, and it sounds so simple." ‌ He then poses his simple task: "Name a berry." You may think this is straightforward and many believe it would basically be a freebie point at your local pub quiz. But hold your fire before blurting out the first answer that comes to mind because there is a twist, the Mirror reports. While most people typically blurt out strawberry or perhaps raspberry in response to this seemingly simple question, Darragh has pointed out that these aren't actually berries. ‌ So if you guessed either, you've just joined the majority of people who messed up the answer. The Chaser clarified: "If you said strawberry, blackberry, or raspberry, you're wrong. They are not technically berries. ‌ "Berries are a very specific type of fruit. They have to come from a single ovary of a single flower, and have no stones for seeds. So if you said peach, plum, or cherry, they're not berries either. "But what are berries, and this is the bit that is absolutely bonkers, are things like bananas, aubergines, and watermelons." Some fruits, such as cranberries and blueberries, are right to call themselves berries. ‌ In an unexpected twist, avocados also make the cut as berries despite their seemingly stony centre due to their thin, fleshy layer around the seed. Darragh couldn't help but throw in a pun towards the end of the clip about comedian Matt Berry. He told his followers: "If you said Matt Berry, then you're the most devious quizzer in New York City. You can take two extra bonus points." ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. Viewers had a mixed reaction to the clip, while some were caught off guard, others boasted that it was "common knowledge" to know which fruits are actually real berries. One confident viewer replied: "Banana! Because it's got seeds inside. Strawberries are drupes because their seeds are outside. "Peaches are stone fruit, not berries. You'd have to get up pretty early in the morning to stump me with that one, Darragh!" A fellow commenter added: "No such thing as a universally easy question. It's easy if you know it, and it's not if you don't."

Irish MMA star wins grudge fight as opponent taken to hospital on stretcher

Denis Frimpong left his opponent on a stretcher last weekend as he won his latest fight in Munich. "The Menace" defeated Arijan Topallaj in the third round of action in the Oktagon MMA promotion in BMW Park. He was put on the canvas in the early stages of the fight, but recovered to grind down his opponent, who had ran out of steam by the third round. It is understood Topallaj was brought to hospital after the fight as a precaution, which ultimately showed no major injuries for the 26-year-old. Frimpong said: "I respect Arijan, but I proved him wrong today. "He said I didn't have any heart, he brought heart out of me, I didn't think he would, but I think I showed everyone that I do have heart." The 30-year-old only started jiu-jitsu training at 22 years of age, and earned an Oktagon MMA contract in 2023. The timing of this fight was almost costly, as he was at risk of missing the birth of his son in training camp. He explained: "I want to thank my wife, she's nine months pregnant right now. Our due date is next week, I was risking coming out here and missing the birth of my son. "So, she was very helpful and she was very supportive through this. I went through a lot in this camp and I was really worried that, as I said, I would miss the birth of my son. "Thankfully it didn't happen, I came here got the win and made my wife proud." Hopefully it is onwards and upwards for "The Menace" as he continues to make waves in the MMA scene.
