This 53-Year-Old Doctor Says Her Biological Age Is 23. Here's Her Secret

Dr Alka Patel, a 53-year-old longevity and lifestyle medicine doctor from London, claims her biological age is just 23, according to The Metro. She explains that biological age reflects the health of one's cells and tissues, not merely the number of years lived. A younger biological age indicates optimal functioning of the heart, brain, and skin. With over two decades as a general practitioner, Dr Patel now focuses on helping individuals live longer and healthier lives. She employs advanced testing methods, including assessments of metabolic biomarkers, gut health, hormone levels, and DNA analysis, to personalise health strategies for her clients. Dr Patel emphasises that true youthfulness stems from internal health, not just external appearance. By adopting data-driven health practices, she believes individuals can significantly reduce their biological age and enhance their overall well-being. "A younger biological age means your cells and tissues are functioning as though you're much younger: in your heart health, your brain sharpness, and your skin glow. It's not just about feeling better; it's about becoming younger," she told The Metro. She told the news outlet that she is on a mission to help people live longer and stronger. But why is this so important to her? 'Because I nearly died, and I don't want anyone to go through what I went through,' she says. On her 39th birthday, Alka was hospitalised with burnout after spending all her time taking care of her patients and her family and neglecting herself. It was so severe that her organs started to shut down. 'I had a terrible fever, and no one could work out why,' she remembers. "I didn't know if I'd live to see my children the next day. That moment truly terrified me. I was cut open by surgeons in an attempt to find the source of the fever, but it was a mystery. In the end, I was diagnosed as PUO - Pyrexia of Unknown Origin - and left with the surgical scars of my burnout as a harsh reminder to take care of myself. Being forced to confront her mortality was eye-opening for Alka: 'I wasn't ready to leave my children without a mother. That experience didn't just change me; it redefined me," she said. So, how did Dr Alka reverse her biological age? She credits it to six simple biohacking steps designed to jumpstart healthy ageing: 1. Sunshine Sync (1-10): Step outside for 1 minute of morning sunlight, close your eyes for 10 seconds, and set your intention for the day. 2. Power Pulse (2-20): Walk for 2 minutes, then sprint for 20 seconds to boost heart health and energy. 3. Hydration Habit (3-30): Drink 3 gulps of water every 30 minutes to maintain consistent hydration. 4. Compliment Catalyst (4-40): Give 4 meaningful compliments daily, each lasting around 40 seconds, to uplift others and yourself. 5. Flexibility Fix (5-50): Perform 5 different stretches, holding each for 50 seconds to maintain mobility. 6. Breathflow Boost (6-60): Every hour, slow your breathing to 6 deep breaths per minute to calm your nervous system.

"Stop Stealing Cobblestones": Bruges Pleads With Tourists As Historic Streets Crumble Underfoot

The picturesque city of Bruges, the capital and largest city of West Flanders in Belgium's Flemish Region, is celebrated for its medieval architecture and rich cultural heritage. Situated in the country's northwest, it is the sixth most populous city in Belgium. However, this historic tourist destination is now facing a rather unusual problem, officials have issued a public plea asking visitors to stop removing cobblestones from the city's iconic center, according to The Metro. Tourists have reportedly been taking pieces of the historic pavement as souvenirs, raising concerns about preserving the integrity of Bruges' treasured streets. According to The Metro, Bruges is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its charming canals and blend of Gothic, Romanesque, Renaissance, Neo-Classicist, and Baroque architecture. The iconic cobbles date back to the Middle Ages. Every year, over 8 million international tourists descend on the capital of West Flanders to marvel at these wonders in real life. However, such popularity has led to the destruction of Bruges, which ironically, is also famed for being one of the most preserved medieval cities in Europe. According to the city councillor, Franky Demon, Bruges is losing between 50 and 70 cobblestones every month, due to tourists taking a piece of history home with them. While sneaky travellers might not think it's a big deal, he revealed that repair costs actually add up to 200 Euros (Rs 17,121) per square metre of stones. Demon told the The Brussels Times: 'We ask for nothing but respect. Walking in Bruges means treading on centuries of history. Please leave these stones where they belong.' The councillor then highlighted the places experiencing the most damage, including the iconic areas of Minnewater, Vismarkt, the Grand Place and the Gruuthuse Museum. He explained that while these thefts occur each month, the severity increases during spring and summer, when Bruges welcomes the majority of its visitors. Additionally, Demon said pinching the stones is a threat to people's safety, too. As Bruges is a compact and walkable city, renowned for being pedestrian-friendly, the gaps left by the missing stones pose trip hazards.

Elderly British Man, 79, Caught Smuggling Drugs Worth Over Rs 2 Crore In Chile

A British pensioner has been arrested in Chile for allegedly attempting to smuggle five kilos of methamphetamine, according to The Metro. The 79-year-old man arrived in Santiago from Cancun, Mexico, and was preparing to travel to Australia. Authorities detained him after a scanner detected a suspicious substance in his suitcase. Upon conducting a thorough search, officers found a concealed compartment in his luggage where the drugs were hidden. Police estimate that the methamphetamine would have been worth approximately 200,000 pounds (Rs 2.3 Crore) on the streets of Chile. Airport police chief Sergio Paredes said it was the first time the arrested man had entered Chile. He told The Metro: "This person came from Mexico, and when he was arrested and taken to the anti-narcotics squad's airport offices, he said that the suitcase had been received by some Mexican nationals at Cancun airport." The man was due to spend a night in a hotel in the capital before boarding a flight to Sydney. Paredes said police were still investigating whether the drugs were due to remain in Chile or be smuggled to Australia. He told local press: 'Prosecutors are looking into this and trying to establish whether the drug was for internal consumption or was due to be transported by this British national to Australia.' Chilean customs officers released pictures of the four packages they had confiscated, saying, "Customs officials intercepted a foreign citizen with more than five kilos of methamphetamines hidden in a secret compartment in his luggage at Santiago Airport." "He was stopped after his luggage was scanned and has been remanded in custody." Meanwhile, a string of recent arrests has highlighted the issue of British nationals getting caught up in international law enforcement for drugs smuggling. Examples include Bella May Culley, 18, from Billingham, and Charlotte May Lee, a former TUI flight attendant arrested in Sri Lanka with a substantial quantity of 'Kush'. The individual detained in Chile is older than many of those recently apprehended.

The Who drummer kicked out of band for a second time

Zak Starkey, the drummer for The Who, has been kicked out of the rock band for a second time in one month. Starkey, who has been a band member since 1996, claimed his departure from the band had not been a mutual decision and alleged he had experienced 'weeks of mayhem' and 'would never have quit' The Who willingly. In a lengthy statement on his Instagram account, the drummer said: 'I was fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit The Who to pursue my other musical endeavours. This would be a lie. 'I love The Who and would never had [sic] quit…quitting The Who would also have let down the countless amazing people who stood up for me…thru [sic] weeks of mayhem.' It comes after reports surfaced last month that the band had taken the 'collective decision' to fire Starkey following a row over their charity show at the Royal Albert Hall in March. One review of the band's Teenage Cancer Trust performance, which has been an annual gig for The Who since 2000, reported that Roger Daltrey, the frontman, had been 'frustrated' with Starkey's drumming during some songs. The Metro's gig review suggested that Daltrey had complained onstage about his bandmate's performance, reportedly pausing during their final song to tell the audience: 'To sing that song I do need to hear the key, and I can't. 'All I've got is drums going boom, boom, boom. I can't sing to that. I'm sorry guys.' Responding to the news, Starkey said he was 'surprised and saddened' to learn he was being let go. However, the band swiftly responded to the rumours of the 59-year-old drummer's sacking, clarifying that he was 'not being asked to step down' three days later. Pete Townshend, The Who's guitarist, blamed 'personal and private' communication issues at the time. On the band's official social media, he wrote: 'Roger and I would like Zak to tighten up his latest evolved drumming style to accommodate our non-orchestral line-up and he has readily agreed.' He added that Starkey, who is the son of Ringo Starr, had 'made a few mistakes and he has apologised'. Starkey then thanked the pair for supporting him. But on Sunday, in an apparent U-turn, Townshend wrote on Instagram that 'after many years of great work on drums from Zak, the time has come for a change'. In a statement that appeared to take their long-time drummer by surprise, he added: 'A poignant time. Zak has lots of new projects in hand and I wish him the best.' Starkey insisted that while he did have other projects on the go, 'none of this has ever interfered with The Who and was never a problem for them'. 'The lie is or would have been that I quit The Who – I didn't. I love The Who and everyone in it,' he added. The announcement comes just weeks before The Who are scheduled to start their farewell tour. The rock band are embarking on a 'final' farewell tour of the US and Canada with 16 dates beginning in August in Florida. Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism.
