Legendary singer, 80, from popular 60s group vanishes after boarding NYC subway train in Brooklyn

The legendary female singer of a rock band famous in the 1950s and 60s has been missing for four days after she vanished on the New York City subway. Sandra Hall, 80, is a former member of the Los Angeles-based vocal group, The Platters. The 80-year-old mysteriously disappeared at around 4pm on Friday after boarding a subway train at Atlantic Avenue - the busiest station in Brooklyn. According to a 'missing person' post on Facebook, Hall - who is 5'3 - was wearing gray sweat pants, a long white shirt with a long pink shirt over the top and white Reebok sneakers. Hall's disappearance is especially concerning because she has dementia and gets easily confused and disoriented, according to her family. 'Sandra is more than just our mother; she is a warm, vibrant woman who once brought joy to audiences as part of The Platters,' said her daughter, Star DaSilva. 'We just want to bring her home safely.' Family members are following a tip that the 80-year-old may have been spotted in the Bronx. 'We had a potential sighting in the Bronx! It checks out because she hopped on the 2 train going uptown,' Hall's daughter Star DaSilva posted on Facebook yesterday. 'We contacted the local precinct and now waiting for word. The person with the tip provided an accurate description so I'm feeling confident about it,' DaSilva continued. Hall joined The Platters under her stage name Sandra Dawn in 1965, 14 years after the group was first formed. The group was one of the most successful bands of the early rock and roll era. They had 40 charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and four number-one hits. Some of these hits include He's Mine, Enchanted and (You've Got) The Magic Touch. The Platters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, and the group continues to perform around the world with new members. Formed in Los Angeles in 1951, the group initially consisted of teenagers Alex Hodge, his brother Gaynel, Curtis Williams, Joe Jefferson and Cornell Gunter. Herb Reed, the last surviving original member of the group, died in 2012 at age 83. If anyone has information regarding Hall's disappearance, they are asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or submit tips on the CrimeStoppers

Former singer with The Platters missing for days in Brooklyn, daughter says

The daughter of an 80-year-old missing Brooklyn woman is asking for your help in the search. Sandra Hall, 80, is the former singer for the hit group The Platters. She was last seen Friday at around 4 p.m. near Atlantic Terminal. Kahtia DaSilva said Hall went missing after spending time at the Atlantic Terminal Mall. "We don't know where she's been sleeping, what she's been eating," DaSilva said. "I'm very concerned." DaSilva says Hall has dementia and was in the area with her caretaker, who's DaSilva's niece, at the time of her disappearance. DaSilva said Hall separated from her caretaker at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center subway station slipped through a turnstile, and got on an uptown 2 train. She hasn't been seen since. "She just hopped on, and by the time my niece, her caretaker, was able to get her bearings, the train had already gone," DaSilva said. Hall was wearing gray sweatpants, a pink shirt and white sneakers. "A lot of things are running through my mind right now. I am trying to stay hopeful and it be a positive scenario, such as maybe she's in the hospital, maybe she's in a homeless shelter," DaSilva said. DaSilva said Hall likes to be independent, but has never gone missing for several days. The family says they're worried for her safety, and hope someone may recognize here. "I just hope that if anyone sees her picture or if anyone just recognizes her, to be a good Samaritan and contact police," DaSilva said. "She's loved and we're very worried for her." Anyone with any information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
