The console itself boasts backward compatibility, ensuring the title is playable on both the Nintendo Switch 2 and the original Switch models. The pricing structure places the Switch 2 bundle as a premium-tier offering, aligning with expectations around improved hardware specifications. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Victoria Principal Is Almost 75, See Her Now Reportingly Undo Pre-orders for the bundle are now live through the My Nintendo Store and select major retailers, signaling a clear intent to drive early adoption ahead of the holiday shopping surge. A central gameplay feature includes time-sensitive mechanics – the city shifts between distinct day and night gameplay modes. Live Events By day, players traverse the city's wild areas, battling and capturing alpha Pokémon – larger, more aggressive beasts that serve as mini-bosses. As dusk falls, the Z-A Royale emerges – a tournament-style gauntlet where trainers face off in high-stakes battles, culminating in encounters with notable adversaries like Corbeau, leader of the Rust Syndicate, a new antagonist group with roots in the city's underworld. Side Quests, Mega Evolutions, and New Characters Beyond the central story arc, Pokémon Legends: Z-A offers a host of side missions and supporting characters. Emma, a streetwise detective, brings investigative storylines to the forefront, tasking players with solving the mystery of missing Pokémon and stolen items. Another pivotal figure is Mable, head of the Pokémon Research Lab, who encourages players to assist in fieldwork studies in exchange for in-game rewards and lore expansion. Of particular interest is the return and expansion of the Mega Evolution mechanic. A newly introduced Mega Dragonite , blending the ethereal appearance of Dragonair with enhanced battle stats, is expected to become a fan-favorite. Developers revealed that its sleek design and upgraded speed will introduce fresh competitive dynamics. Furthermore, the game explores the emergence of 'Rogue Mega Evolutions', where wild Pokémon are seen transforming spontaneously, becoming volatile. These battles serve as major narrative checkpoints, with players required to calm and capture these feral forms using Mega Stones, working alongside the newly formed group Team MZ. Bundle Aimed at Core and New Audiences Nintendo's bundle strategy is clearly aimed at long-time fans as well as new adopters. With Pokémon Legends: Z-A designed to take advantage of the enhanced specs of the Switch 2, early impressions from developers hint at more fluid animations, sharper textures, and reduced load times. At the same time, cross-compatibility with the original Switch ensures players aren't left behind. This mirrors previous Nintendo transitions—similar to when Zelda: Breath of the Wild straddled the Wii U and the original Switch—providing continuity in player experience across platforms. Pricing and Market Expectations Priced at $499.99, the Switch 2 bundle is positioned at the high end of Nintendo's console offerings, yet competitive compared to other current-gen hardware on the market. Analysts expect strong uptake, especially given the enduring popularity of Pokémon and the historic success of bundled game releases. Retailers have already begun promoting the bundle aggressively, and some industry insiders predict stock shortages during the launch window—similar to what occurred with earlier Nintendo launches, including the original Switch. A Calculated Leap for Nintendo's Hardware Ecosystem This bundle signals Nintendo's transition to its next hardware era, and the company appears intent on using its most powerful IP, Pokémon, to make that shift as smooth and commercially potent as possible. With this rollout, Nintendo blends nostalgia, narrative innovation, and technical evolution. As the release date of October 16 approaches, fans and industry watchers alike will be monitoring how the game performs across both hardware generations and what it portends for the Switch 2's long-term adoption curve. New Nintendo Switch 2 bundle announced as console breaks another sales record
Mega Dragonite is the first new mega evolution in over a decade (The Pokémon Company) The Nintendo Switch 2 is being bundled with Pokémon Legends: Z-A, as the latest Pokémon Presents reveals new surprises. The Pokémon Company has held its latest Pokémon Presents showcase, and the results were strangely underwhelming. Anyone hoping for a Gen 10 tease, or a surprising new spin-off, will have come away disappointed, as it mostly featured only updates on mobile games and a new Pokémon Legends: Z-A trailer. It was not without a few surprises, but the most significant of the lot wasn't actually shared during the showcase: a new Nintendo Switch 2 bundle that'll be available for pre-order in less than 24 hours. The news was revealed on Nintendo's social media accounts, once the showcase wrapped, and as you can probably guess, it will include both the console and a copy of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. It will launch the same day as the game on October 16. Nintendo doesn't specify if the bundled game will be a physical or digital version, but it's almost certainly the latter, if the Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza bundles are anything to go by. There's also no pricing at the moment, but with pre-orders opening tomorrow on July 23, you won't need to wait long to find out. Although we can estimate based on the prices of the other two Switch 2 bundles. While the Mario Kart World bundle costs £429.99, and thus saves money on the game itself, the Donkey Kong Bananza bundle is £454.98, which is exactly how much you'd spend if you bought the Switch 2 console and a digital copy of the game separately. Assuming Nintendo is handling the Pokémon Legends: Z-A bundle the same way, it would cost the same amount as the Donkey Kong one, since the Switch 2 version of the game is priced at £58.99. The Switch 1 version is cheaper at £49.99 and can be upgraded to the Switch 2 version, but with the additional fee, you'd only be saving £1. Every new announcement at Pokémon Presents July 22 A proper teaser for Pokémon's collaboration with Wallace & Gromit studio Aardman was shown, confirming the two companies are producing a stop-motion animated series called Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures Of Sirfetch'd & Pichu that will start in 2027 and is set in the UK-inspired Galar region from Pokémon Sword & Shield. A permanent outdoor attraction called PokéPark Kanto is scheduled to open in early 2026 in Japanese amusement park Yomiuriland. Exact details of what it entails are slim, but it's described as 'a space where pokémon will always be, and where people and pokémon can have fun together.' A new mobile app called Pokémon Friends is already available on Switch as well as the Apple and Google Play stores, and offers simple pokémon-themed puzzles that reward you with in-game plush toys you can use to decorate rooms with. A new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A revealed some of the new characters you'll meet, as well as rogue mega evolutions, where certain wild pokémon are able to mega evolve without a trainer. It also confirmed the game's first new mega evolution – Mega Dragonite – and that pre-orders net you a Ralts that can later mega evolve to Mega Gardevoir. This announcement comes after it was reported by Japanese outlet Yomiuri that, according to data compiled by Famitsu, the Switch 2 has broken another sales record, pushing more than 1.5 million units in Japan one month after its June launch. If accurate, this would mean the Switch 2 is selling three times faster than its predecessor and has even outpaced the PlayStation 2, the best-selling console of all time, in its first month in Japan. What's more staggering is that, according to analyst Dr Serkan Toto, Famitsu's data doesn't include units sold directly by Nintendo, so the real sales figure is even higher. Nintendo itself has yet to formally share any sales data, but after it smashed records worldwide the company is likely to exceed its target of 15 million Switch 2s sold by the end of March 2026.
