Pokémon Legends: Z-A arrives October 16
Pokémon Legends: Z-A , the follow-up to 2022's Pokémon Legends: Arceus , now has a release date of October 16. Along with the release date announcement, The Pokémon Company also confirmed that a new Pokémon Presents presentation will broadcast on July 22. Presumably we'll see more of the monsters we're going to be catching and battling with in Lumiose City, including the Mega-Evolved Pokémon featured on the newly revealed box art. The last Pokémon Presents took place back in February and showcased the three starter pokémon in Z-A , as well as the new real-time combat system. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will launch on both the outgoing Nintendo Switch and its successor, with Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition featuring "improved graphics and frame rates". You'll be able to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition by purchasing a $10 upgrade pack on the Nintendo eShop or My Nintendo Store. An October release date for Pokémon Legends: Z-A means it's unlikely that we'll see Metroid Prime 4 in the same month, as Nintendo traditionally likes to spread out its first-party releases. Donkey Kong Bananza arrives on July 17, but beyond that we don't know a whole lot about what else Nintendo has planned for the remainder of the year. As reported by VGC , a new Nintendo Direct presentation could happen in June, where the company would likely fill in the blanks regarding its plans for what's left of 2025.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A releases this October
Pokémon Legends: Z-A won't be a Switch 2 launch title, but its release date isn't all that far away. Today, Nintendo announced that Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition are scheduled to debut on October 16th. Per The Pokémon Company International's press release, preorders for digital versions of the games will begin June 5th on the Nintendo eShop. And according to a post on the company's official Japanese X profile, preorders for physical editions of the games start July 23rd. On July 22nd, TCPi is also putting on another Pokémon Presents streaming presentation focused on Legends: Z-A, which will likely reveal even more of the games' new monsters and details about its story. The Pokémon Presents' timing definitely makes it seem like Nintendo intends on getting people hyped up to secure their copies. And given how generally tightlipped the company has been about Legends: Z-A so far, this next presentation is probably going to be one worth watching.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A gets a fall release date, and that includes the Switch 2 Edition
Pokémon Legends: Z-A will arrive on October 16, 2025, but pre-orders begin on June 5. The Pokémon Company also announced new Mega Evolution merchandise (available now on the Pokémon Center) and confirmed the Pokémon Presents presentation coming July 22. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will launch on both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2, but if you're like many gamers and couldn't get your hands on a Nintendo Switch 2 preorder, you can still play Pokémon when it launches and upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version later through an upgrade pack. While The Pokémon Company didn't say how much the upgrade pack would cost, similar offers for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are $10. It's likely that Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be similarly priced. Recommended Videos Both versions of the game will have the same content, but the Nintendo Switch 2 version is said to have a better framerate and sharper graphics. 'Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a new frontier for the Pokémon video game series, blending an RPG story unfolding in a single city with action elements and a real-time battle system unlike anything seen before in the franchise,' the press release reads. 'Trainers can look forward to the beginning of a new adventure in Lumiose City—one woven by people and Pokémon together!' This go-round, players can choose between Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile as their starters, but multiple other Pokémon have been confirmed through trailers. Where the previous Pokémon Legends game took place in the past, Z-A is set in Lumiose City — a location inspired by Paris, France — and blends city life with 'Wild Zones' where Pokémon can be caught. Battles look a little different, too. Rather than static turn-based affairs, positioning matters, and players can get a surprise attack by striking a trainer from behind (as long as you aren't spotted). Each trainer has a rank, and players start at Rank Z and must grind their way all the way up through Rank A, at which point something amazing is said to happen. You'll still have to wait for a few months, but at least now we know when to look forward to the release of the game, and the Pokémon Presents on July 22 will reveal more about what to expect.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Release Date Announced Alongside Cover Art
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors The Pokémon Company has finally announced the release date for the next mainline Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), and followed up by a press release, The Pokémon Company confirmed that Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be released on October 16, 2025 on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The Pokémon Company The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, as it's labeled, will reportedly feature improved graphics and frame rates, with prior footage of the Switch 2 versions showing a 60fps frame rate, compared to the Switch's 30fps. In addition to digital purchases, players will be able to buy either the Switch 2 physical edition, which comes with both the game and the upgrade pack, or the Switch physical edition, which can be upgraded to the Switch 2 Edition via a digital purchase of the upgrade pack. The company also revealed the box art for the new game, which shows two trainers fighting against another, with a Mega Lucario on the cover. It's a cut down version of the full key art for the game, which also features a Mega Scizor, Mega Absol, Mega Steelix, and Mega Gardevoir, as well as a few non-Mega Evolved Pokémon. The news also comes along with the announcement that a new Pokémon Presents livestream will take place on July 22, 2025. The presentation will include "the latest news and updates from the world of Pokémon" and will almost certainly reveal new information about Legends: Z-A. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the next main series game in the Pokémon series, and sees players returning to the Kalos region first featured in Pokémon X and Y for the Nintendo 3DS. Unlike X and Y, players will be confined solely to Lumiose City, which is greatly expanded and seems to be massive in comparison to the small explorable areas featured in the 3DS game. The game was originally announced only for the Nintendo Switch, but a Switch 2 Edition was confirmed during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct last month.

The Next Pokémon TCG Pocket Expansion Brings Ultra Beasts Next Week
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors The Pokémon Company has announced the next expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket, and it's set to launch next week in the app. The new expansion is called Extradimensional Crisis, and it's a themed booster pack, meaning it's limited to a single booster pack – rather than two like full expansions – and is likely to add around 100-150 cards to the game. Extradimensional Crisis will add Ultra Beast Pokémon cards to Pokémon TCG Pocket, strange creatures from another dimension that have a special designation in the TCG. Key artwork for the Extradimensional Crisis expansion in Pokémon TCG Pocket, showing a number of Ultra Beasts emerging from an Ultra Wormhole. The Pokémon Company A number of Ultra Beast cards were revealed in a press release accompanying the announcement, including some Pokémon ex cards, regular cards designated as an Ultra Beast card, and even full art variants of the Pokémon. Other related cards, like Type: Null and Pokémon ex versions of Guardian Pokémon like Tapu Koko, were also revealed to be coming to the game. More Trainer cards are coming in the new set, too, with a Lusamine card revealed in the expansion's trailer. It's likely that these cards will interact and engage with Ultra Beast cards, allowing greater flexibility than Trainer cards that require specific types or even specific Pokémon to be effective. The Lusamine card, for example, allows you to take two random energy from your discard pile and add it to an Ultra Beast card on your field. The expansion comes after the introduction of Alolan Pokémon in the last full TCG Pocket set, which was titled Celestial Guardians and focused on Pokémon and trainers introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon. Ultra Beasts were also introduced in those games, so it seems as if Extradimensional Crisis acts as further expansion of the Celestial Guardians set. The Extradimensional Crisis expansion will be released in Pokémon TCG Pocket on May 29, 2025. A number of events themed around the expansion will also be added to the game following its introduction, including solo battle events, Wonder Pick events, and Mass Outbreak events:
