Matt Pinfield Comes Out of a Coma After Suffering Massive Stroke: 'Guys, I'm Alive'

The post Matt Pinfield Comes Out of a Coma After Suffering Massive Stroke: 'Guys, I'm Alive' appeared first on Consequence. Former MTV host Matt Pinfield has come out a coma after suffering a massive stroke back in January. The music personality shared the great news with The Hollywood Reporter, declaring, 'Guys, I'm alive!' Pinfield, who hosted MTV's influential alternative-rock program 120 Minutes in the 1990s and again during a revival in the early 2010s, had been in a coma for roughly two months. He has now been released from the ICU, and is currently rehabilitating at a facility in Los Angeles. 'I'm recovering and am going to come back swinging. I was unresponsive for two months,' he further told The Hollywood Reporter. 'Friends were thinking they were coming to see me for the last time. The doctors never expected me to speak or to walk again.' As Pinfield mentioned, there was a prevailing thought that he would not survive, as he also battled pneumonia and was put on a ventilator during the ordeal. When he woke from the coma, he immediately started talking music. 'My friends said I went on talking about 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' and how they couldn't keep up with what I was saying,' he said. 'They were, like, 'Yeah, he's still got that brain.'' Pinfield is itching to get back to work, once he makes a full recovery. He hosts a couple of programs on Los Angeles radio stations, and is the co-host of the AXS TV show The Power Hour. 'I'm definitely going to take some time to recover,' remarked Pinfield. 'Then I'll do my radio shows again and get back to work doing what I love, which is to entertain people playing music.' While he was in a coma, his daughter Jessica filed for temporary conservatorship over her father, requesting that she handle his health and finances amid concerns that others may take advantage of the situation. 'She's the one who saved my life,' said Pinfield. 'She protected me.' Pinfield also expressed gratitude to all the musicians and peers who supported him while he was in the ICU. 'I want to say how great grateful I am for all the people that that were wishing me well,' he said. 'The love of the community helped me get through this.' Among the people who supported Pinfield was Garbage singer Shirley Manson, who wrote on social media, 'He has championed so many artists over the decades who would have otherwise been ignored by mainstream media and the American music scene would be very different indeed without his taste and influence.' Former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield Hospitalized After Massive Stroke

Former MTV VJ and music industry stalwart Matt Pinfield has been placed under a temporary conservatorship following a massive stroke he suffered on Jan. 6. According to the TMZ, Pinfield's daughter Jessica filed for the conservatorship after the stroke due to concerns about her dad's ability to handle health and financial decisions. Jessica said Pinfield, 63, a onetime Columbia Records VP of A&R who has had a number of radio gigs over the past 20 years — most recently co-hosting The Power Hour on AXS TV — suffered the stroke on Jan. 6, the same day he issued his most recent Instagram post. What to Expect at 2025 Grammys Madonna Says the Government Is 'Dismantling All the Freedoms We Have Been Fighting For' In the post, the rock superfan known for his gravely voice and endless, infectioous enthusiasm for talking about alternative music wrote, 'Starting another week with gratitude for a life surrounded by great people, life changing music, and unforgettable experiences that I never take for granted. Here to another week-another day-open heart and open mind. Let's rock!' A spokesperson for Pinfield confirmed that he remains hospitalized following the stroke and that he is under a temporary conservatorship. The legal arrangement is typically approved to provide short-term care and protection for someone who is incapacitated and needs help managing their health care, personal finances and day-to-day needs, typically for up to 90 days. L.A. radio station KCSN hinted at Pinfield's health issues earlier this month when it announced he would be taking a temporary leave, telling listeners in a statement, 'The SoCal Sound's legendary DJ Matt Pinfield will be taking a temporary leave of absence. We are fully supportive of Matt and hope to have his energetic knowledge of rock n' roll back on the air soon.' Pinfield has had a series of health issues over the past few years, including a broken leg and lacerations in 2018 after he was struck by a car and, according to an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in 2017, an irregular heartbeat due to years of struggles with substance use; he spent time in rehab that year. 'I was dealing with A-fib (atrial fibrillation, or irregular heart rhythm),' he said at the time. 'Drinking on top of it wasn't a good idea. And it turns out I was overmedicated.' Pinfield was photographed at disgraced shock rocker Marilyn Manson's 56th birthday party alongside Billy Corgan, Filter's Richard Patrick and Falling in Reverse's Ronnie Radke, the night before his most recent Instagram post. Check out messages of support from Pinfield's friends and peers, including singer/producer Butch Walker, Pretty Wreckless' Taylor Momsen, music journalist Michael Azerrad, fellow former MTV VJ John Norris and Disturbed singer David Draiman. Former MTV Host Matt Pinfield Recently Suffered Massive Stroke

The post Former MTV Host Matt Pinfield Recently Suffered Massive Stroke appeared first on Consequence. Matt Pinfield, best known as the former host of MTV's 120 Minutes, suffered a massive stroke on January 6th, according to legal documents filed by his daughter Jessica, per TMZ. News that Pinfield experienced a medical event first surfaced a few weeks ago after Los Angeles radio station KCSN told listeners, 'The SoCal Sound's legendary DJ Matt Pinfield will be taking a temporary leave of absence. We are fully supportive of Matt and hope to have his energetic knowledge of rock n' roll back on the air soon.' In addition to his gig on KCSN, the 63-year-old Pinfield hosts a Sunday night show on LA's KLOS radio station and is also a co-host of the AXS TV show The Power Hour. He was the host of MTV's influential alt-rock show 120 Minutes from 1995 through 1999, and again on MTV2's revival of the program from 2011 to 2013. As TMZ reports, Pinfield's daughter Jessica filed for a temporary conservatorship over her father, requesting that she handle his health and financial concerns. In the paperwork, she claims that Pinfield is currently incompetent to make any such decisions regarding those aspects of his life, and that she's worried that Pinfield's girlfriend will withdraw money from his bank accounts. Back in 2018, Pinfield was hospitalized after being hit by a car while he was crossing the street, suffering a broken leg and multiple lacerations. In an Instagram post on January 6th, likely just before he suffered the stroke, Pinfield shared a photo of himself in front of a video camera, writing, 'Starting another week with gratitude for a life surrounded by great people, life changing music, and unforgettable experiences that I never take for granted. Here to another week-another day-open heart and open mind. Let's rock!' A photo from the night before apparently shows Pinfield in attendance at Marilyn Manson's birthday party, which was also attended by Billy Corgan, Richard Patrick, Ronnie Radke, and others. Several musicians and peers have sent well wishes to Pinfield, who is known for his encyclopedic musical knowledge and for helping to break a number of bands throughout his career. Singer-songwriter and Marvelous 3 frontman Butch Walker posted a photo of Pinfield on Instagram, writing, 'Matt is a legend in the music business, he can school ANYONE in rock n roll trivia, and he is a helluva wonderful human. Matt suffered a severe stroke recently and has been in the hospital for weeks now. I'm not asking you for anything. I'm just asking you to keep him in your thoughts.' Our thoughts go out to Matt Pinfield during this difficult time, with hopes that he experiences a full recovery.
