Pub expert ranks Somerset 'old gem' pub as one of the UK's best
A PUB in Somerset has been selected as one of the top 10 pubs across the UK by a boozer expert.
The Starr Inn House, situated in Bath, has been praised as an 'old gem' in a book written by Phil Mellows. Phil is a head judge for The Publican Awards and Great British Pub Awards.

The book, titled Beer Breaks in Britain: 30 Places to Explore and Drink Good Beer, looks at traditional pubs across the country that offer a good selection of real ales, and a vintage feel - making it clear why Phil has ranked the Star Inn House among the UK's best pubs.
Phil considered the Starr Inn in his top 10 list for many reasons including the fact you can still get beer served out of a jug, the pub's food, and the fact it was in the Good Beer Guide 2025.
Visitors online have praised the Starr Inn House as an 'old gem' with great service and 'good local beers'. Reviews also highlighted the atmosphere and unchanged historic qualities in the 'atmospheric, wood-panelled rooms'.
According to Camra (Campaign for Real Ale), The Star Inn House first licensed as a pub in 1759, and the historic interior was fitted out by Gaskell and Chambers in 1928. A Cheese night is also held every Thursday and there is live music on Friday evenings from 8:30pm.
Beer Breaks in Britain: 30 Places to Explore and Drink Good Beer, written by Phil Mellows and Kate Simon, is out now, and is priced at £20.
Publish last month (February 27), a passage from Phil's book reads: "Sitting there with your pint, or enjoying a game of shove ha'penny, you could be in another time.'
You can find the Star Inn House at 23 Vineyards, Bath, BA1 5NA.
