Rams RB Blake Corum thinks this NFC QB will have a successful season
Los Angeles Rams running back Blake Corum is a big believer in his college quarterback heading into 2025. Corum, who went to Michigan, told The Rich Eisen Show this week that he believes Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy will be very successful in his first NFL season after he missed the 2024 season with a knee injury. "I think he's going to be very successful this season," Corum said. "I think he's going to play with that chip on his shoulder just to prove to himself and everyone else that he is who he says he is. And he has the tools around him to be successful. Just knowing JJ, knowing how he grinds, knowing how smart he is and his love for the game, I see a very successful year for him and his group." McCarthy was the No. 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but suffered a season-ending meniscus tear in his right knee during the preseason. Now, though, the Vikings gave him the reigns to start under center after the team didn't bring back Sam Darnold. Corum, the No. 83 pick in the 2024 draft, played three years with McCarthy at Michigan from 2021 to 2024 and won a national championship in 2024. He rushed 58 times for 207 yards and no touchdowns as a rookie for the Rams. L.A. doesn't play Minnesota this year, so the only time Corum and McCarthy could face each other would be in the playoffs. The Rams took down the Vikings in the 2024 Wild Card Round, but both Corum and McCarthy were on injured reserve and didn't play.

Rich Eisen's ESPN-bound show will be featured on ESPN Radio
It was announced in May that Rich Eisen's weekday show will be heading to ESPN. We now know a little more about where it will land. Via Andrew Marchand of The Rich Eisen Show will become the centerpiece of ESPN Radio, taking over the 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET slot. It will replace something called Joe & Q. Eisen's show also will stream on Disney+, ESPN+, the long-awaited ESPN direct-to-consumer streaming product, coming this month. The move sets up an interesting in-house competition between and among Eisen, Pat McAfee (whose show airs in that time slot), and Stephen A. Smith (who has a new SiriusXM show that will conflict with Eisen's show). (Everyone will say all the right things about this unusual intramural arrangement. But we know a thing or two about how Type-A alphas operate.) One last note. Marchand mentions that Eisen's offerings will include a podcast in which Eisen will interview his SportsCenter colleagues from his initial run (1996 through 2003) in Bristol.

'Aura around him is gone': Aaron Rodgers slammed for acting above the game after strange workout
NFL Hall of Famer calls out Aaron Rodgers' attitude after viral training video (Getty Images) As Aaron Rodgers steps into his 21st NFL season, the stakes could not be higher. At 41, he joins the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year deal that may mark the final chapter of his storied career. But with the franchise under intense pressure—especially head coach Mike Tomlin amid a six-game playoff skid—the spotlight on Rodgers has never been brighter. The four-time MVP is expected to revive the Steelers' postseason hopes and lead one last run at a championship. Joe Thomas doubts Aaron Rodgers' magic still exists Despite Rodgers' decorated resume, not everyone believes he's the answer Pittsburgh needs. Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Thomas has openly questioned whether Rodgers can still command a locker room or play at a Super Bowl level, especially after a disappointing stint with the Jets marred by an Achilles tear and a five-win season in 2024. "There's not many quarterbacks that have had a bad year coming off injury, as they get really old, and their third or fourth teams, that have found really great success," Thomas told Andrew Siciliano on The Rich Eisen Show. Joe Thomas Talks Browns' QBs, Rodgers & Steelers, Colts, More | Full Interview | The Rich Eisen Show Having spent his entire 11-year career with the Browns, Thomas also admitted to rooting against the Steelers due to his loyalty to Cleveland. Yet his skepticism runs deeper than rivalry. "He really needs to humble himself a little bit… until he does that, I think they're going to be a little lukewarm on his presence." Steelers locker room believes Rodgers is all-in While Thomas voices doubt, Steelers veteran Cameron Heyward sees a different side of the quarterback. He claims Rodgers has fully committed to the team, even earning the respect of teammates with his leadership and offseason engagement. This includes private workouts with his new receiving group—featuring D.K. Metcalf, Scotty Miller, and Pat Freiermuth—and a viral training video where Rodgers was seen grinding alongside NBA stars in California. Though Rodgers hasn't had a winning season since 2021, his personal stats haven't fallen off a cliff. Last year, he threw 28 touchdowns at a 63% completion rate—just shy of his career average—though his 11 interceptions raised concerns. Still, Thomas remains intrigued, if not convinced: "So it will be really interesting to see what he does, and how he changes in little ways... and be the guy that can lead them to a Super Bowl." With a final shot at glory and his legacy hanging in the balance, Aaron Rodgers' farewell tour could either cement his greatness—or confirm his decline. Bears CB Jaylon Johnson indicates he's seeking another contract extension
Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson has established himself as one of the best in the NFL, which earned him a contract extension last offseason. But with cornerbacks resetting the market, including most recently with Sauce Gardner's deal, Johnson is eager to open up negotiations about another extension. Johnson inked a four-year, $110 million contract extension back in March 2024, which continues to be one of the most affordable in the league given the talent and contributions from Johnson at a premier position. During a recent appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show," Johnson indicated he wants to discuss another extension as cornerbacks continue to rack up big pay days. "Just seeing a lot of the other corners getting paid — I almost feel like we might have another discussion coming up here soon," Johnson said. "The market is moving, the market is moving. As long as I just keep being myself, keep playing at a high level, definitely going to have to be some more conversations coming up soon and really keep it long term. So, I'm looking forward to that." It certainly feels like the Bears are getting a steal with Johnson at $19 million per year, and there's no doubt that he deserves to be paid like a top cornerback. But Johnson just signed an extension last offseason, so this feels more like it's a discussion to happen next offseason. Despite Chicago's disappointing and frustrating 2024 season, Johnson remained one of the league's best cornerbacks with three takeaways (two interceptions, one forced fumble), eight pass breakups and recorded a career-high in tackles (53) and tackles for loss (7) in 17 games while earning his second straight Pro Bowl nod. Johnson was placed on the Non-Football Injury list to start training camp, and it's unclear whether he'll be cleared in time for the Bears' first practice on Wednesday. But there's little doubt that he'll once again serve as a cornerstone in new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen's defense. Follow Bears Wire on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram

Cam Heyward says Aaron Rodgers has ‘bought in' after initially calling out QB's waiting game
Aaron Rodgers is getting rave reviews from his teammates ahead of training camp. Veteran defensive lineman Cam Heyward, who has spent his entire 11-year career with the Steelers, is all in on having No. 8 in the fold and behind center for the team this year in a bit of an about-face. 3 Cam Heyward talks Aaron Rodgers buying in. YouTube Rich Eisen Show Advertisement 'It just felt like he has bought in, and it worked out for the best,' Heyward said on 'The Rich Eisen Show' on Wednesday. 'I know sometimes we live in a society where we want things now. But patience has a way of paying off. And to now see he's a Pittsburgh Steeler, and just him walking through the locker room asking questions [about] how we do things. He's bought in, and that's all I can ask for our quarterback. As a teammate, I'm excited to go work with him.' Heyward previously said he would not recruit Rodgers while the ex-Jet pondered whether he would sign with the Steelers for several months. 'Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don't. That's simple. That's the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that's the recruiting pitch. Rodgers endured two largely unsuccessful seasons with the Jets, including a 5-12 2024 that saw head coach Robert Saleh get fired in the middle of the season.
