Pierce Brosnan is Brendan Ingle in 'Prince' Naseem Hamed biopic Giant

The first trailer for Giant, the biopic of former world featherweight champion 'Prince' Naseem Hamed, starring Pierce Brosnan as his Dublin-born boxing trainer Brendan Ingle, has been released. Amir El-Masry (A Haunting in Venice, SAS: Rogue Heroes, Industry) stars as Naseem 'Naz' Hamed opposite Brosnan in the film, which is written and directed by Rowan Athale (The Rise, Gangs of London, Strange But True). Giant is executive produced by Rocky star Sylvester Stallone. The synopsis says Giant is "based on the remarkable real-life story of legendary British Yemeni boxing champion 'Prince' Naseem 'Naz' Hamed". "Charting his inspiring rags-to-riches underdog tale from his humble beginnings in Sheffield to becoming champion of the world and a global sporting icon in the 1990s, the film explores the unlikely and tender relationship between Naz and his Irish boxing trainer Brendan Ingle; and the instrumental role that Ingle played on his road to success," the synopsis continues. Brendan Ingle, who trained numerous world and European champions, died in Sheffield in May 2018 after a brain haemorrhage. He was 77. Paying tribute after Brendan Ingle's death, Naseem Hamed said: "I can honestly say that if it were not for Brendan Ingle, I would not have achieved all I did in the sport of boxing."

The 22-track record, which hit No. 1 on Billboard's R&B charts and won the Grammy for Best R&B album, spans 67 minutes and showcases Brown's famous four-octave tenor vocal range. After a few listens, we were most struck by the tropical 'Sensational,' bouncy 'Press Me' and laid-back 'Best Ever.' Still, the standout might be the pulsing 'No One Else' featuring Fridayy; its breakneck beat coupled with impassioned vocals make for a surefire dance floor favorite. Make sure you don't sleep on the Grammy-nominated 'Summer Too Hot,' either. Want to spin Brown's latest for yourself? You can find '11:11' in its entirety here. Chris Brown special guests At all shows, Brown will bring along either Summer Walker or Bryson Tiller, and, on some occasions, they'll both share the stage with the Virginia-born hitmaker. Summer Walker: 'Girls Need Love' Bryson Tiller: 'Don't' Chris Brown controversy In 2009, Brown had a domestic dispute with his then-girlfriend Rihanna that became violent. Soon after, she was sent to the hospital to treat severe facial injuries. That morning, Brown turned himself into the Los Angeles Police Department. One month later, he pleaded guilty to felony assault. After agreeing to a plea deal that included community labor, five years probation, and domestic violence counseling, the judge ruled a 50-yard, five-year restraining order was necessary for Rihanna. Brown is also known for his 2013 spat with singer Frank Ocean, a hit and run, breaking internal rules at a rehab center, assaulting his manager and a five-year restraining order from his ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, among other transgressions. Most recently, he was charged this past May with smashing a tequila bottle over a music producer's head at a London nightclub in 2023. He was granted bail and plead not guilty. Maylands cafe to be run by Rockingham company

A Rockingham-based company has won the contract to operate a City of Bayswater-owned cafe in Maylands. Ambrosia Catering & Event Hire was awarded the deal to run The Rise recreation centre cafe at the city's July 1 council meeting. It was one of three groups that put their hands up for the work. The others were Grow & Grind, which is based in Maylands, and KBD Pty Ltd, which runs a cafe in Bayswater. The Rise cafe has been vacant since 2021. A city assessment panel scored Ambrosia's submission 92 out of 100, well ahead of the others. A city report said Ambrosia had been operating since 2002 and provided cafe and canteen services for high schools, industrial sites, small home parties, corporate events and weddings. KBD runs a cafe on Beechboro Road South. Grow & Grind is a social enterprise that said it had outgrown its current coffee van. The council was questioned at its meeting by Cale Black, who is intending to run for council in the October elections, over why local operators were not preferenced. Mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the city considered local business for procurements but it did not apply to commercial leases and local weighting was not part of the selection criteria. Cr Nat Latter said the city could look at giving weighting to local businesses in the future. She said the community had been waiting a long time for The Rise cafe to be open. 'This particular applicant was extremely strong on the criteria and what we really need in that place is an extremely strong business that we know can succeed,' Cr Latter said. Deputy mayor Elli Petersen-Pik said the city had missed an earlier opportunity to make the most of the space. 'I used to see people coming to the gym, staying, read the newspaper, have coffee and lunch; it's gone,' he said. 'Hopefully we will bring some people to stay there and also provide more safety for that location which is also a concern for some residents, so it's a win-win.' Ambrosia operations manager Jason Floyd said they wanted to transform it into something 'stylish yet approachable'. 'We're going to bring the concept of Ambrosia through but embrace the gorgeous location by incorporating more native tones and colours to complement it,' he said. 'I'm doing a little bit of research about the clientele that use that recreational space but we're aiming for nourishment; good coffee, great options for pre and post workouts, something appropriate for the library attached too. 'We're not chasing to break the mould; we're just chasing to be a good space to catch up with somebody before or after an event.'

Yami Baito: Japan's Dark Part-Time Jobs Tied to the Criminal Underworld

Nearly every week in Japan, headlines tell a similar story: a foreign national arrested for bank fraud. A teenage boy caught acting as a getaway driver. Two college students , two months into a 'delivery job,' nabbed while breaking into a stranger's home. These aren't isolated crimes — they're part of a growing underground pipeline known as yami baito , or 'dark part-time jobs,' where people, often young and broke and recruited through social media, are lured into illegal work disguised as easy cash gigs. But what exactly is yami baito? And why are so many young people getting pulled into Japan's criminal underworld — sometimes without realizing it until it's far too late? List of Contents: The Rise of Yami Baito Who's Applying — and Why the Numbers Keep Climbing What the Government Is Doing Related Posts The Rise of Yami Baito The word baito is a Japanese contraction of arubaito , itself borrowed from the German arbeit , meaning work. In postwar Japan, baito became shorthand for part-time jobs. But attach the kanji yami , or 'darkness', and the term transforms into something far more sinister. 'Yami baito' refers to illegal or criminal work disguised as ordinary part-time gigs. Complete strangers are recruited through platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram and Telegram — promised quick money for easy tasks like 'picking up a package' or 'helping an old person with their bank card.' In reality, these recruits are often acting as fraud couriers ( ukeko ), cash collectors or even burglars. The term yami baito began surfacing in police and media reports in the early 2020s as fraud syndicates shifted their recruitment tactics from underground 'dark sites' to mainstream social media. In 2023 , it entered the national lexicon in full force, making the Top 10 of the U-Can New Words and Buzzwords Awards, signaling both its pervasiveness and the scale of public concern. Who's Applying — and Why the Numbers Keep Climbing The raise in dark part-time work can be linked to the rise of part-time work as a whole. Many young people struggle to find consistent employment, and in a 2021 survey by the Ministry of Justice, more than half of fraud offenders in their twenties said they would rather earn money easily than work hard. And though work is growing more scarce, pressures continue mounting, including rising student debt . In 2023 the National Police Agency (NPA) arrested 2,373 people for roles in special fraud schemes. Nearly 70 percent of suspects were under 30, including a significant number of high school students. Over 40 percent said they'd been recruited through social media, lured by promises of quick money — many posts offer ¥50,000 to ¥100,000 per task, for jobs listed as 'courier' or 'assistant.' Eighty-two individuals had clicked listings that masqueraded as ordinary 'day-labor' gigs on legitimate job apps. During the recruiting process, many applicants are asked to submit a photo ID, a selfie and sometimes even their parents' contact details, framed as routine onboarding. That information becomes leverage. The crime group can threaten them if they try to back out: Their ID will be leaked, their family members exposed or targeted, their face posted online. Yami baito encompasses a wide range of illegal activities. In some cases, the work is contactless and feels much closer to gig work than a crime: Applicants receive instructions via encrypted chat apps — scan a code, pick up a package, drop off a bank card. The gig worker knows next to nothing about what they're actually doing. Sometimes, the work involves doing fake surveys or data collection, which scammers will use for identity theft. And sometimes it's blatantly illegal — robbery, breaking and entering or schemes that target the elderly. Most arrests involve low-level operatives: ukeko (cash collectors), dashiko (ATM couriers) and lookouts. These roles account for about 75 percent of all suspects. Most don't realize the scope of what they're involved in until they're already under arrest. Conversely, fewer than two percent of those arrested are organizers. What the Government Is Doing In December 2024 , Japan's Cabinet adopted emergency countermeasures to curb yami baito recruitment. Key policies include mandating stricter ID verification for new user accounts and pressuring platforms to take down job posts that lack employer names, contact details, or descriptions — now explicitly classified as violations of the Employment Security Law. The government is also considering allowing investigators to use fake IDs to pose as job applicants and sign up for shady jobs. Job-matching apps are taking measures as well. Timee now screens every job listing before it goes live, 24 hours a day, year-round. Workers' personal information is withheld until after a job is confirmed, making it harder for recruiters to exploit them pre-emptively. Still, many in law enforcement argue that enforcement alone is not enough. Prevention efforts must include digital literacy programs in schools, financial support for at-risk youth and community education on identifying fake job ads. Crime moves fast. Policy needs to catch up.
