Goldendoodle Terrified at Fireworks—Hearts Melt at Owner's New Plan

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After noticing how anxious her dog was about the fireworks, this woman went the extra mile to ensure he had a safe space to relax in—and she couldn't resist joining him. In years gone by, Jovita Aranda's goldendoodle, named Luca, wasn't too bothered by fireworks and they didn't appear to cause him much stress. Although, Aranda, of Oregon, told Newsweek that he's "always been sensitive to loud noises," and he can be very timid at times. Things changed on New Year's Eve last year, when he really struggled to cope with all the fireworks going off at midnight. Aranda knew there would be plenty more on July 4, so she made sure to be prepared this time around. "Originally, I built him his own little den over his bed on the floor, but he was only comfortable if I was sitting right next to him," Aranda said. "That's when I decided to build him a bigger den, using our couch as a base and something we can cozy up on together. He had all his favorite things inside, snacks, his lambchop, and of course me." Jovita Aranda building the den for her goldendoodle on July 4. Jovita Aranda building the den for her goldendoodle on July 4. @memydoodsandi / TikTok It took 30 minutes for Aranda to build the ultimate den for her and Luca, and it was worth every second. She placed a large sheet above the sofa and propped it up with a metal rod, almost creating a tent within her living room. Then she added some twinkly lights, blankets, and Luca's favorite toys. Instead of listening nervously to the fireworks, Luca was "a lot more comfortable" inside the den and it made the night far more enjoyable. Aranda and Luca watched The Secret Life of Pets movie and then the 6-year-old goldendoodle fell asleep shortly after. If creating a safe haven isn't an option or doesn't work, the American Kennel Club (AKC) also suggests playing white noise, leaving the TV on to mask the loud noises, walking them before the fireworks start, comforting them and offering long, slow petting strokes that can be soothing. Notably, owners should avoid seeming frantic, as the AKC notes that this can make dogs think there's something to fear. "This is now our new routine and honestly, I'd do this for him even if he was feeling anxious and just needed some extra comfort. It was therapeutic for both of us, and anytime we spend like this, it deepens our connection and bond," Aranda continued. The millennial dog mom shared a video of her building the den on social media (@vitothedogfather on Instagram and @memydoodsandi on TikTok) and it has delighted internet users. In the days since it was posted, the clip has generated over 14,600 views and more than 1,500 likes on TikTok at the time of writing. The caption alongside the video reads: "He's knows I'm his safe place." The response to the TikTok video has been overwhelmingly positive. Aranda has been inundated with kind messages, and she's heard from many fellow dog owners about what they do to help their dogs during fireworks. She told Newsweek that it was "heartwarming to read" about the lengths owners will go to for their beloved pets. Aranda said: "Dogs love to feel connected to their humans, and they show us love every moment of the day. The best way to thank them is to give them quality time with no distractions. Taking time to play on their level, scratching behind the ears while staring into their eyes, snuggling, and comforting them when they're scared." Internet users have praised Adarna for ensuring Luca felt safe and calm during such a difficult night. One comment on the TikTok post read: "This is so wholesome. You're a great mama." Another TikTok user wrote: "This is a great cuddle place. Now you can use it anytime." While another person added: "When I come back as a dog, I want a dog mom like you." This animated feature from Sony Pictures Animation will also see the Golden State Warriors star as a producer. While this will be his first major role in a movie, Curry has been a part of a few projects so far. His wife, Ayesha certainly knows her way around the camera, so she could give him a few pointers if it ever came to that. For now, though, we can at least expect to hear Stephen Curry as he plays his part in GOAT. More info Disney's Pixar studios hit a milestone with the multi-award-winning Finding Nemo, which became a cherished part of many childhoods thanks to its groundbreaking animation. The film follows Marlin's quest to find his missing son, taking him on an adventure through and beyond the ocean, meeting a host of characters voiced by a star-studded cast. But what has happened to the cast of Finding Nemo more than 20 years after its 2003 release? Albert Brooks - Marlin Taking the role as the lead character, Marlin, Brooks voices the clownfish in his desperate search for his son. Outside of Finding Nemo, Brooks is no stranger to voice acting, he's picked up credits on The Secret Life of Pets and various roles on The Simpsons over the years. He came back in 2016 to reprise his role in Finding Dory, but outside animation, he appeared in some big-budget films. He's picked up credits in Taxi Driver, Drive and Concussion, but now, aged 77, has dialled his appearances back slightly. Ellen DeGeneres - Dory (Image: AFP via Getty Images) Bringing her a memorable performance to the forgetful Dory, DeGeneres picked up a few other acting credits during her career but became much more famous from her wildly popular talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which aired across 19 seasons with 3294 episodes. The show wrapped up in 2022, but after being "cancelled" for allegations that she created a toxic workplace on her show and the star moved to the Cotswolds for a quieter life alongside her wife, Portia De Rossi. The pair are thought to live in the same village as Jeremy Clarkson and are known to drop into his pub in the quiet Oxfordshire village. Alexander Gould - Nemo (Image: Sipa/REX/Shutterstock) Just nine when he voiced the film's title character Nemo, but now, more than 20 years later, he has taken a step back from acting. After the Pixar classic, the former child star picked up a role in the comedy TV series Weeds, but when that came off the air in 2012, Gould was now 18 when he chose to attend college over continuing to pursue acting. In Finding Dory, he picked up a cameo as delivery truck driver, Carl, but was recast as the lead role. Speaking on Good Morning America, Gould said: "People ask me to do the voice and then I have to explain that I was, you know, 9 years old and my voice has changed a little bit since then." Willem Dafoe - Gill (Image: Getty Images for BAFTA) Dafoe played the wise, old and crafty fish Gill, stuck in a dentist's fish tank, and Nemo finds himself stranded in it. Since his smaller role in the film, Dafoe has gone on to become one of the most recognisable actors of the past few decades. He has earned four Oscar nominations for his roles in Platoon, Shadow of the Vampire, The Florida Project and At Eternity's Gate, but also gained fame for his parts as the Green Goblin in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films. Geoffrey Rush - Nigel Playing the lovable and extremely Australian pelican, Nigel, the Oscar-winner went under the radar and marked a much more casual role for the award-winning actor. He may be best known for his roles as Shakespeare in Love, Quills, The King's Speech and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Joe Ranft - Jacques The writer and voice actors played the lovable and eccentric French shrimp who is obsessed with the fish tank's hygiene. Known more for his writing talents, Ranft played a big part in the creation of Toy Story, for which he also earned an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Andrew Stanton - Crush Stanton was the director and co-writer of the original film, but also picked up a voice-acting role as the surfer-dude sea turtle crush. In his 20 years since the film he directed, Wall-E, Finding Dory, as well as a host of TV episodes. He remains at the studio where he is now the Creative Vice President.

How Cat Spends Time on Bed Rest After Surgery Melts Hearts

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Have you ever wondered what a cat might do while recovering from surgery? Well, it turns out they spend their time doing something very similar to what humans would do—binge-watch TV. The clip, shared by his doting owner Marquita from Cincinnati, Ohio, has racked up over half a million views on TikTok (@marquitalarissa). It shows an orange cat wearing a post-surgery suit covering his torso after his second hernia surgery. While resting, he has found a new love for the animated movie The Secret Life of Pets. Hernias in cats are rare but can occur, typically due to trauma or congenital defects (present from birth), according to pet food company Purina. They result from muscle damage or abnormalities that allow internal organs or tissue to protrude. In the comments, Marquita told one user that she thinks his hernia returned because he was "too active during recovery when he should have been resting!" Newsweek reached out to @marquitalarissa for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case. This time, it looks like he has understood the assignment, as the caption states he's probably watched the movie 10 times. It seems he isn't bored of it as he lies on his bed wrapped up in a blanket, earning 126,100 likes. But life hasn't always been comfortable for Jack, who was found with his brother—now named X—in a parking lot. Another video shared by Marquita states they were "dumped, starved and freezing." A stock image of orange cat in post-operative bandage lying on sofa with its belly up. A stock image of orange cat in post-operative bandage lying on sofa with its belly up. Tat'yana Andreyeva/iStock / Getty Images Plus Today, they lead a different life with their loving owner at their beck and call. So much so, their owner, who is a single mom, has moved to a larger apartment to cater to their needs. She notes in another video tour of the property that it will cost an extra $400. But judging by the countless videos about the duo, who appear to be inseparable, they're worth every cent. Not only have they stolen Marquita's heart, but the internet's too. "Aww sick day in his jammies on the couch with a movie," resonated one commenter, with over 20,000 likes. "I wish my cat did this. he doesnt even understand the concept of a screen," said another user, and Marquita replied, "Jack's an iPad kid." Other users have commented to share what their feline's favorite animation is too—but can cats see TV? Hill's Pet Food Company states they "sort of" can. Vision is a primary source of television engagement, so when you wonder if cats can see television, it's helpful to think about how their eyes work. The way in which cats see the world begins when light hits the retina. The two main photoreceptor cells in the retina, cones and rods, transfer the light into electric signals. These electric signals are sent to the brain, allowing cats to "see" the images in front of them. Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share? Send them to life@ with some details about your best friend and they could appear in our Pet of the Week lineup.
