Reneé Rapp's Superstar Moment Has Arrived

Reneé Rapp has gone from an exciting, talented newcomer in several entertainment fields to a certified superstar in just a few years. The singer and actress first made herself known in the TV series The Sex Lives of College Girls before starring as Regina George in the musical film adaptation of Mean Girls. In between projects, Rapp has managed a music career, which has taken off spectacularly. Her fanbase is global, but in the United Kingdom, it seems especially strong, as that's where her new album Bite Me earns its most impressive starting points. Bite Me Launches at No. 1 on Several Charts Bite Me opens on six tallies in the U.K. this week, and it leads many of them. Rapp debuts her sophomore full-length at No. 1 on the Official Albums chart, the ranking of the most consumed projects in the country. The title also begins its time in first place on the Official Album Sales, Official Physical Albums, and Official Vinyl Albums rankings. Reneé Rapp Reaches the Top 10 Bite Me is a top 10 win on every tally on which it appears in the U.K. at the moment. As it leads four lists, it also launches in fifth place on the Official Album Downloads chart and at No. 10 on the ranking of the most streamed collections. Bite Me Follows Snow Angel Bite Me arrives almost exactly two years after Snow Angel, her debut full-length. That project was also a top 10 success in the U.K., as it stalled at No. 7 on the main ranking of the biggest titles. 'Leave Me Alone' Introduced Bite Me Bite Me was fronted by several singles which arrived before the album dropped in full, with 'Leave Me Alone' kicking things off and introducing the new rock sound the set was centered around. That tune reached No. 69 on the main songs tally in the U.K., earning Rapp only her second appearance on the list. She also made the 100-spot roster that measures the most consumed songs in the U.K. with 'Not My Fault,' a collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, which was created specifically for Mean Girls.

Did Reneé Rapp's new song just throw shade at her HBO show?

Actor, singer, and Out100 honoree Reneé Rapp is making her return to music after teasing a new era on social media. The 25-year-old star revealed today that her sophomore album, Bite Me, is coming out on August 1. Along with the news, Rapp also dropped a new single, "Leave Me Alone," and its music video. Well, let's just say that the song lyrics are making headlines. Sign up for the to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment — delivered three times a week straight (well…) to your inbox! Fans who listened to the track closely may have noticed a few lines that could be interpreted as shade toward the HBO Max series The Sex Lives of College Girls, which she starred in and had a newsworthy exit in 2023. "Leave Me Alone" has Rapp singing lines like, "Signed a hundred NDAs but I still say something / Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun / Took my sex life with me, now the show ain't fuckin' / Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun." It's unclear if this line is in direct reference to The Sex Lives of College Girls, but all signs are pointing to yes. Rapp has spoken highly of the cast (and even wrote a song about one of them) in the past, and also praised showrunner Mindy Kaling. While her sudden departure was surprising, Rapp reiterated that she was simply shifting focus to her music career. Either way, the fans are having a field day with these potentially very shady lyrics! Rapp told Variety that in 2022 that, no matter what, her acting career always came second to music. "[I thought], I can do music on the side, like, I can just hustle," she said back then. "And now I've just kept acting, because it keeps supporting the music… Acting was my way into tricking everyone that I warranted attention, so that I could have this interview with you." The Sex Lives of College Girls ultimately aired its third and final season in November 2024 — putting an end to the short-lived HBO Max series. Around that time, Rapp was keeping up with a busy schedule that included her first-ever headlining tour (in support of her debut album, Snow Angel), a starring role in the 2024 movie musical adaptation of Mean Girls (in which she played Regina George), and several performances around the world. If there were major issues between Rapp and the HBO Max show, fans are certainly getting a glimpse of that situation right now. Internet sleuths are already trying to piece together this puzzle and discover if anything can be uncovered.
