Events sold out as the 2025 Gascoyne Food Festival proves to be a success, with more than two weeks to go
The gastronomical delights of the Gascoyne keep getting dished up during the region's month-long food festival celebrating mouth-watering local produce, extraordinary culinary talent and breathtaking landscapes. The biggest event of its kind in regional Australia, this year's festival program features 17 events in July and August spread across the Gascoyne, including Shark Bay, Carnarvon, Exmouth and the Upper Gascoyne. The Massey Bay Prawns and Pimms event at Carnarvon Race Club on August 1 was a galloping success, with delicious prawns on the menu along with a cheeky Pimms or two. Fashions on the Field, entertainment and track action made it a day at the races to remember. Many events have been sell-out successes, with full houses at both the Mexican Seafood Fiesta at Exmouth's The Shack and the Under the Full Moon event at Mantarays Ningaloo Beach Resort at the weekend. More than 300 tickets have already been sold to this coming weekend's Beergustation at Froth and the Whalebone Hoe-Down in Exmouth. On Sunday, August 10, Michelin-trained head chef Toby Fisher and pastry chef Maree Fisher served up a delicious, mouth-watering French-inspired culinary experience at the stunning Bullara Station, about 90km south of Exmouth. Gascoyne Minister Hannah Beazley said the festival was a wonderful celebration of what made the Gascoyne so special — 'from its passionate producers to its rich cultural and culinary diversity'. 'Our Cook Labor Government is proud to support this incredible event that not only draws visitors to the region but also creates jobs and opportunities for small businesses,' she said. Food and Agriculture Minister Jackie Jarvis added, 'The Gascoyne region is renowned for its tropical and winter fruits, vegetables, seafood, and beef. 'This festival is a fantastic platform to shine a light on this premium regional produce and the hardworking growers, fishers and pastoralists behind it.' The Gascoyne Food Festival will wrap up on Sunday, August 31 with the sold-out event, Australia's Last Sunset on Dirk Hartog Island, a two-day adventure of natural beauty, rich history and gourmet delights in a secluded setting.

Inside the Mount Waverley townhouse Erin Patterson sold shortly after her arrest for triple mushroom murder
Just one week before her arrest, Erin Patterson put her Melbourne holiday home up for sale. Inside, on clear display for prospective buyers to see, the house was littered with sentimental artefacts from the times Patterson and her two children spent at the Mount Waverley townhouse. The belongings — left behind when the property was swiftly placed on the market — offered a glimpse into Patterson's life before she murdered three relatives and attempted to kill a fourth in July 2023. A bookshelf in the master bedroom was bursting with religious texts and linen and children's toys were haphazardly dumped on the bottom of the built-in cupboards. The shelf included books on Christian Theology, bibles, and books by evangelist preachers. Other texts in the collection include The Shack, a novel by Canadian author William Young about a serial killer, and Schemes of Satan. In a description online, the book would suit 'Christians who need tools and strategies to overcome the devil's influence in their lives'. Children's artworks, a cardboard reconstruction of a lighthouse, and a Lego set remained sitting on the shelves of the master bedroom's walk-in-wardrobe, whose drawers were stuffed with miscellaneous goods, such as hygiene products and electronics. The kitchen cabinetry was still stocked with cookware and cleaning and repair tools, such as mops, brooms, vacuums, paint, and plastic bags, were stashed inside storage closets. Half-shut drawers in the walk-in-wardrobe were still filled with Patterson's personal items, including toothpaste, deodorant, a hairbrush, papers, and a power board. Papers filled with kids' drawings and writings could also be seen, including one note which appeared to outline a travel itinerary to the United States. Outside, a plethora of dusty furniture could be seen stacked inside the garage, including tables, lounge chairs, dining chairs, lamps, and drawers. Patterson bought the three-bedroom, three-bathroom property in 2019 for $931,000 after receiving inheritance following her mother's death. The Mount Waverley townhouse was put up for auction on October 27, 2023 — just days before Patterson was taken into police custody on November 2, 2023. The house was sold on November 9 for $1,025,000 after the real estate received a private offer. Now, never-before-seen photos can be revealed after Patterson was last month found guilty in the Victorian Supreme Court of poisoning her former parents' in-law Don and Gail Patterson and Gail's sister Heather Wilkinson. During the trial, the court heard Patterson would stay in the home with her children when travelling to Melbourne from their Leongatha home, in Victoria's Gippsland region, with their last stay taking place in the autumn school holidays in early 2023 — just months before the fatal beef wellington lunch. Late last month, a Supreme Court order was issued prohibiting the sale of Patterson's Leongatha home so it may be used in future compensation claims, should any be lodged by her victims families.
