Standard poodles were originally bred as water retrievers, making them highly effective gun dogs, according to The Spruce Pets. Their keen intelligence and strong swimming abilities enable them to retrieve game from water and land efficiently. Hunters value them for their versatility and trainability, often using them in various hunting scenarios. Despite their elegant appearance, poodles are hardworking and dedicated in the field, showcasing the breed's historical roots as functional hunting companions. TikTokers were quick to react and expressed similar affectionate experiences with their poodles. "Look all dogs love their owners. But poodles love humans. They have a studied preference for bonding with humans over other dogs or animals," said Don. "The poodle paws are so real although mine likes to slam them into your face," shared another user. "I am not a couples expert but, I think that poodle is going for your husband," quipped another user. "Poodles are the most loving loyal dogs," shared another user. "Your husband ain't married to you he's married to the poodle," said Charlotte. "I have to warn everyone my poodle LOVES hugs. She will wrap her front legs around your neck or waist," said Marenna. Cat Doesn't Like Dachshund, Viewers Not Prepared for What Happens Next
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A cat was not impressed with their dachshund sibling—until, seemingly out of nowhere, they changed their tune. But nobody could be prepared for what happened next. The pawrent, who goes by @minidoxflan on Instagram, shared a now-viral video showing their gray cat affectionately licking their miniature dachshund, Flan de Queso. The clip has racked up over 159,000 views. "POV [point of view]: the cat that's been hissing at you all weekend suddenly likes you," reads the text overlaying the clip. "No sudden movements," the poster captioned the video. In the footage, the cat meticulously grooms Flan de Queso, while the little dog looks up, somewhat bewildered by the unexpected show of affection. Miniature dachshunds like Flan are known for their lively and affectionate personalities. The experts at The Spruce Pets say that these pint-size pups are intelligent and curious, though they can be wary of strangers or other animals at first. With proper socialization, however, they often form close bonds with their companions—human or otherwise. Cats and dogs living under the same roof can be a tricky mix, especially in the beginning. But, as the charity Dogs Trust says, peaceful cohabitation is possible when introductions are handled carefully. With patience, pets can learn to respect each other's boundaries—and, as seen in the video, even grow fond of each other. Why do cats lick dogs? Catster says there are four vet‑reviewed explanations for this behavior—each one reinforcing the idea that the feline sees the canine as more than just a roommate: Grooming: Cats often groom animals they are bonded with. When your cat grooms the dog, it is a sign of acceptance and friendship. Motherly Instinct: Licking can be an expression of maternal care—especially if the dog is still a puppy—and showing a protective, nurturing side. Affection: Cats lick to build bonds and soothe themselves. When they lick the family dog, it usually means they are relaxed, comfortable, and affectionate toward their canine companion. Scent Marking: By licking, felines leave their scent on the dog, creating a sense of familiarity and comfort when they curl up together later. Cats' extraordinary sense of smell plays a large part in this behavior. Stock image: A gray tabby nestles into a sleeping dog. Stock image: A gray tabby nestles into a sleeping dog. We have the same situation with sudden outbursts of love from the cat, also my cat looks very similar to yours," said one user. "Keep going please …" posted another. "It's a Trap! Run!!!!" added a third viewer, echoing the sentiment of many who found the sudden shift in behavior suspicious. "Do not let your guard down!" read one comment. "Adorable," wrote one user. Man Discovers Matted Stray Cat on His Walk—Shock at What Microchip Reveals
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. When Mehdi G of Washington noticed an extremely matted cat on his walk, he knew he couldn't leave her, but he wasn't prepared for what the microchip revealed a day later. In his Reddit post to the subreddit channel r/cats last week, Mehdi G explained he took the dirty and matted cat home. With her clumpy-looking fur, he tried his best to cut off as much as he could. Matted fur can be extremely painful for cats, leading to bruising or skin irritation. It also prevents airflow to the skin and could trap in dirt, bacteria or parasites, an article from The Spruce Pets reported. Mehdi G then bathed the cat and booked an appointment at the vet for the next day. He offered her food and water, which she ate before sleeping. He wanted to make her feel as comfortable as possible until he received answers. Much to his surprise, the cat was microchipped with a registration dating back to 2010, which puts her at an age of at least 15, he told Newsweek via Reddit messenger. The office got in touch with the cat's previous owner, but she was no longer in the area. "She said that she moved away 10 years ago and gave the cat to someone to take care of her, but doesn't remember who," he said. "She was very upset that her cat was in this bad condition." With her blessing to keep the cat, whom he named Lil Bit, Mehdi G gained a new pet. Lil Bit received her treatments and vaccinations at the vet before heading home to a warm, snuggly place to call her forever. She's "very sweet and cuddly." She's catching up on much-needed rest, which he sets her up in a pile of blankets, or she'll sleep right in his lap. He updated Reddit users that he got her a collar with her name. Lil Bit not only has a new friend in Mehdi G, but also with his other cat, who is a senior too. Within a week, the Reddit post amassed over 4,900 upvotes and 271 comments. People applauded his selflessness for coming to the cat's aid. "You didn't find that cat on your walk. That cat found you," said a viewer, while a second echoed: "You are an angel, take good care of her." Another added: "Faith in humanity restored for today!"
