A YOUNG man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Co Kerry yesterday afternoon.
The man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident that occurred on Tuesday at around 3.30pm.
Gardai and emergency services attended the scene.
The man was swimming in the River Flesk at Killarney, Co Kerry yesterday when he got into difficulty.
The man was removed from the water but he was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
Gardai have confirmed investigations are ongoing and that a file is due to be prepared for the coroner.
In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: "Gardai and emergency services were alerted to an incident where a male (aged in his 20's) encountered difficult in the water at Killarney, Co. Kerry, on Tuesday 12th August 2025 at approximately 3.30pm.
"The man was removed from the water. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
"A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. A file will be prepared for the coroner.
"Investigations are ongoing."
