Furious Game of Thrones fans vow to 'boycott' franchise after 'absolutely pathetic' update

A Game of Thrones prequel series is on the way, titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but it's safe to say that the latest update has not gone down well with fans Game of Thrones enthusiasts are up in arms about a "absolutely pathetic" update, with some threatening to snub the upcoming series. ‌ The iconic saga is set to expand with another offshoot, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, inspired by George R. R. Martin's The Tales of Dunk and Egg, slated for broadcast on HBO next year. ‌ Amidst delays caused by writers' strikes, fans have been on tenterhooks for any news about the anticipated prequel. ‌ The narrative charts the adventures of Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall, future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard) and Egg (the future King Aegon V Targaryen), unfolding roughly a century prior to the tales of Jon Snow and Arya Stark, bridging the gap between Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, reports the Express. However, the latest scoop has left many fans feeling short-changed, with reports indicating the debut season will consist of just six episodes, each lasting a mere 30-35 minutes. ‌ Disgruntled voices took to Reddit as one user lamented, "Yeah no one wants this," upon hearing the news. Another fumed: "30-35 minute are going to run this franchise into the ground." Someone else seethed: "3 hours a season and it'll be 2033 before season 3 comes out probably." ‌ Another echoed: "So we get six episodes every two years? This is dead on arrival," while someone else questioned: "wtf is going on lol," to which another fan replied: "Utter tomfoolery is what's going on!" "I really hate this era of everything being not quite a movie and not quite a season," someone else said. ‌ "Yikes that really sucks," one wrote, while another slammed: "6 half hour episodes is absolutely pathetic. What's the point, just make it a movie." "Is this a sitcom or what?" another said, as someone else blasted: "This is absolute horse s**t. F**k this franchise now." ‌ Further details for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms have yet to be released, though reports are claiming the series has been renewed for a second and third season, following the second and third novellas of the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms volume. HBO executive Francesca Orsi said earlier this year: "We're already planning on how do we build this for the three seasons in total. We're not picking it up officially, but it's looking very good. We're looking at it as a holistic piece, Seasons 2 and 3, because there's three novellas." George R. R. Martin also shared his support for the upcoming series, writing on his blog: "I've seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them. Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible. The rest of the cast are terrific as well. Wait until you guys meet the Laughing Storm. and Tanselle Too-Tall." ‌ He added: "It's as faithful as adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for (and you all know how incredibly reasonable I am on that particular subject)." The synopsis for the first season, titled The Hedge Knight, teases: "The tale is based around characters affectionately known as 'Dunk and Egg' - Ser Duncan the Tall, a young but courageous knight, while Egg is his small-in-stature young squire. ‌ "Together the pair are wandering Westeros. This time period is a state of change for the Seven Kingdoms. While the Targaryens still hold the Iron Throne, they are now without dragons. "While the last dragon is still within living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits await these two unlikely heroes." The novel was released in 1998, with the second, The Sworn Sword in 2003 and the final of the trio, The Mystery Knight, in 2010. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is set to air on HBO in 2026

Game of Thrones fans 'demand to riot' after major update on spin-off series

Game of Thrones fans have been left furious after an update was given about a new spin-off series. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George RR Martin's The Tales of Dunk and Egg, is set to be released on HBO next year. The stories follow Dunk – aka Ser Duncan the Tall, the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard – and Egg, the future king Aegon V Targaryen. Based around 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones, but 100 years after House of the Dragon, the new project has left fans eagerly awaiting its arrival. However, following a recent update that the first series will feature six episodes that are 30-35 minutes long, it's fair to say that people have been left disappointed. Taking to Reddit, balthazar_edison questioned: 'How does it take this long to make 6 half hours episodes?' Xsearleyx added: '6 half hour episodes is absolutely pathetic. What's the point, just make if a movie.' DisMeDog also complained: 'A full year from now we will get three total hours of a tv show then we need to wait a couple years for another possible three hours? I genuinely hate the way content is released these days.' Fans were, however, happy to hear that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been renewed for season two and three at HBO before the first season has even aired. Currently there are seven Game of Thrones spin-off series in various stages of development, consisting of three live-action and four animated projects. These include: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms The Golden Empire – live-action series The Sea Snake (Nine Voyages) – animation The Blackfyre Rebellions – in development Untitled Targaryen-Line Series – in development According to Redanian Intelligence, the first season is said to be arriving in 2026 while the second season is being written 'as we speak'. @JimmyCVAMC wrote on X: 'Absolutely cannot wait for this show.' @Illbe_your_moon also said: 'Getting two more seasons before even airing… That's huge confidence, and even bigger expectations!' Meanwhile, @SirTopiano argued: 'Early renewals signal confidence that Westeros' next saga will capture imaginations again.' More Trending Peter Claffey has been cast as Dunk in the series, which has been filmed in Ireland, while Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Tanzyn Crawford, Daniel Ings and Sam Spruell are also in the cast. An official synposis reads: 'A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. 'Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.'
