Fleetwood Mac's ‘Rumours' Outpaces All The Band's Other Albums Combined
Fleetwood Mac's Rumours spends its five-hundredth week on the Official Albums Sales chart, outpacing ... More all other full-lengths from the band combined. NEW YORK, UNITED STATES: Members of the British rock group Fleetwood Mac (from left) John McVie, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, Mick Fleetwood and Lindsay Buckingham appear together after receiving their awards and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 12 January in New York. The thirteenth annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction dinner also honored Santana, The Eagles, The Mamas and Papas, Lloyd Price and Gene Vincent. AFP PHOTO (Photo credit should read JON LEVY/AFP via Getty Images) AFP via Getty Images At this point, it's not strange to see Fleetwood Mac's Rumours rank among the bestselling albums in any country. The British-American outfit's catalog remains one of the bestselling of all time, and the group claims one of the top-performing traditional studio albums ever with the hits-packed title. Rumours has already sold tens of millions of copies throughout the years, and is still selling to this day, decades after it was first released. This week is a notable one for the critical and commercial favorite, as it helps Fleetwood Mac reach a milestone for the very first time on a highly-competitive list. Among the top 40 bestselling releases in the United Kingdom this frame, Rumours drops from No. 22 to No. 39 on the Official Albums Sales chart. That tally ranks the top-selling full-lengths and EPs, blending both digital and physical purchases. The fact that it's still present inside the top 40 is notable, but that's not why Fleetwood Mac and the band's fans must be excited about Rumours this time around. As of this frame, Rumours has spent 500 weeks on the Official Albums Sales chart. It's the first title by the group to reach that milestone on the all-encompassing purchase-only tally. The band's compilation The Very Best Of ranks as its second-longest-charting effort, with 148 turns on the tally. The simply-titled Greatest Hits comes next, with 108 frames. Rumours is so successful, it outpaces all of Fleetwood Mac's other bestselling projects combined. Looking at the 21 other collections the band has sent to the Official Albums Sales chart, the total number of weeks all of those efforts have accumulated is still 100 frames away from matching the impressive total that Rumours has managed. It should be noted, though, that for many years the main albums chart in the U.K. was compiled using sales alone. When streaming was factored into the list of the most-consumed full-lengths and EPs, a separate album sales chart had to be established, so these rankings and numbers are only as of that introduction. Rumours Appears on Three U.K. Charts Rumours appears on a trio of sales-only tallies in the U.K. this week. It drops on both the Official Vinyl Albums (No. 23) and Official Album Downloads charts (No. 68). The title has spent more than 400 weeks on the downloads-only ranking, and it will soon crack triple-digit frames on the vinyl list.

Buddy Holly Earns A New Posthumous Bestseller
Buddy Holly's The Very Best Of returns him to the U.K. charts decades after his passing, thanks to a ... More tribute-filled new book from Paul McCartney and members of The Who. NEW YORK - CIRCA 1958: Buddy Holly (Charles Hardin Holley) poses for a portrait circa 1958 in New York City, New York. (Photo by Michael) getty Buddy Holly has been gone for more than 60 years at this point. He died at just 22, when his career was only beginning to take off. He had already achieved commercial success in both the U.S. and the U.K. by that point, and his legacy has continued to grow in the six decades since his death in a plane crash. More than half a century later — far longer than he was alive to make music — Holly is still collecting new wins on the charts and being honored by major musicians. Holly returns to the U.K. music rankings this week with a beloved compilation. The Very Best Of , which credits both Holly and his band the Crickets, debuts on a pair of tallies as it finally becomes a bestseller. The Very Best Of launches at No. 54 on the Official Physical Albums chart. At the same time, it enters at No. 61 on the Official Albums Sales list, which also includes digital purchases. This frame marks just the third time Holly has scored a posthumous placement on the Official Albums Sales chart. He's only appeared on that list once as a solo act, with All Time Greats in 2021. A few years earlier, he collaborated with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on True Love Ways , which remains his only top 10 on that ranking, as it peaked at No. 8. Holly has fared better on the Official Physical Albums tally. With The Very Best Of , he's doubled his total number of career appearances on this roster, which focuses on CD, vinyl, and cassette sales, when compared to the Official Albums Sales ranking. In both instances, the new arrival marks a new low for the late star. Buddy Holly's Compilation is a Hit Thanks to a New Book It appears that The Very Best Of is the same compilation of that name originally released in August 1999. The set — and Holly's music in general — is back in the spotlight following the release of a book titled Buddy Holly: Words of Love . The 400-plus-page book features musicians paying tribute to Holly, describing how he influenced their work and expressing the hope that their attention can keep his music and name alive. The project, which was heralded by his widow Maria Elena Holly, includes contributions from Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend of The Who, Paul McCartney, and Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones, who painted the cover art.

Dolly Parton Reaches A Special Milestone — Again
Dolly Parton's The Very Best Of reaches 350 weeks on the U.K.'s Official Country Compilations chart, ... [+] becoming her latest collection to do so. FRISCO, TEXAS - MAY 11: Singer Dolly Parton arrives for the 58th Academy of Country Music awards at The Ford Center at The Star on May 11, 2023 in Frisco, Texas. (Photo by Omar Vega/FilmMagic) Dolly Parton's career has been defined by her hard work, her many hits, and, perhaps most notably, its longevity. This week, she extends her reputation as one of the most successful acts with decades in the business with yet another impressive milestone. Even after decades in the industry, Parton continues to score wins and dominate the charts. Amazingly, she does so with both her classic successes and brand new releases. Parton's The Very Best Of spends its three-hundred-and-fiftieth week on the Official Country Compilations Chart in the U.K. The album holds steady at No. 2, and incredible placement for a set that's spent that much time on the list. While it no longer rules the ranking – at least not at the moment – it previously peaked at No. 1. The project could return to the summit at any point, as it's not far from the penthouse. The Very Best Of becomes just the second album in Parton's discography to reach 350 weeks on the Official Country Compilations Chart. The only other title to accomplish this feat is The Complete Trio Collection. That retrospective brings together the two albums the trio of her, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris released during their time as a supergroup. While The Very Best Of and The Complete Trio Collection have spent the most time on the Official Country Compilations Chart, several other best-of releases from Parton have also enjoyed lengthy stays on same ranking. That roundup includes The Essential (324 weeks), Gold: The Hits Collection (159 weeks), Ultimate (127 weeks), and Diamonds & Rhinestones – Greatest Hits(121 weeks). Parton is a force on the Official Country Compilations Chart right now, as she claims three wins. As The Very Best Of remains steady at No. 2, Diamonds & Rhinestones – Greatest Hits slides from No. 3 to No. 7, and Smoky Mountain DNA – Family Faith And Fables rises from No. 11 to No. 10, re-entering the loftiest tier. As fans continue to consume her older favorites, Parton simultaneously scores a brand new hit this week. Her latest single, 'If You Hadn't Been There,' debuts at No. 21 on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts. The song is a deeply personal tribute to her late husband, who passed away earlier this month after more than 50 years of marriage. The emotional ballad clearly resonated with fans, who were quick to show their support for her during this difficult time. The tune becomes Parton's ninth career hit on the Official Singles Sales chart and her eleventh entry on the Official Singles Downloads roster.
