Today's top TV and streaming choices: The Zoo, All Is True and Good Boy
Live Racing: The Oaks Virgin Media One, 1pm The Derby meeting begins at Epsom with Ladies' Day, during which the third of this year's Classics, The Oaks, takes place. Live International Football RTÉ2, 7pm The Aviva Stadium hosts the first-ever match between the Republic of Ireland, who may feature Evan Ferguson, and Senegal. It's a friendly in which both managers may give fringe players a runout. The Zoo RTÉ One, 8.30pm Keeper Brendan Walsh discovers that Noel the bat has awakened too early from hibernation and, as a result, is in need of urgent medical care. Meanwhile, a team from America arrive to help remove two of Coby the Californian sea lion's teeth. A Man Called Otto RTÉ One, 9.35pm Tom Hanks heads the cast of a comedy-drama remake of a 2015 Swedish movie. He plays a grumpy widower who reluctantly becomes embroiled in the lives of his neighbours (portrayed by Mariana Treviño and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo). All Is True BBC Two, 11.30pm Drama written by Ben Elton and based on the final years of William Shakespeare's life. Kenneth Branagh plays the Bard, who returns after a 20-year absence to his wife and daughters following the destruction of his beloved Globe Theatre. Judi Dench and Ian McKellen co-star. Dept. Q Netflix, streaming now DCI Carl Morck may be an excellent investigator, but there's no hiding from the fact that he's a terrible co-worker. There's the small matter of his scathing sarcasm, which has left him without a single friend in the Edinburgh police force. Then there's the rather more serious issue of him having fatally shot a young officer and permanently injured his partner. Unsurprisingly enough, following this tragic turn of events, Morck is relegated to Department Q: a cold-case unit which was created as a publicity stunt. Although the force is thrilled to see Carl go, he soon sets about assembling a group of outcasts who are all keen to prove themselves. Yes, it does sound a bit like Slow Horses, which is quite the gauntlet for Netflix to throw. Only time will tell if it's worthy of comparison. With yer man from Leap Year (Matthew Goode) essentially playing a hybrid of Gary Oldman's Jackson Lamb and Jack Lowden's River Cartwright, I wouldn't hold my breath. A Widow's Game Netflix, streaming now Picture it: August 2017. In a Valencia parking lot, a man is found stabbed seven times. The city's Homicide Group, led by a veteran inspector, races to solve the case, which appears to be a crime of passion. Their investigation soon takes a shocking turn, pointing to an unlikely suspect: Maje, the victim's seemingly sweet and stoic widow, married to him for less than a year. Mission: Impossible Fest Disney+, streaming now We can never get enough of the Mission: Impossible movies, it seems. You can now watch all the prequels to the recently released The Final Reckoning if you're so inclined. Bono: Stories of Surrender Apple TV+, streaming now Behold Bono's one-man stage show, exploring the personal experiences that have shaped him as a son, father, husband and activist. Oh, and as one of the planet's biggest rock stars. If Owen Wilson's signature shtick is more to your liking, The Stick lands Wednesday. Good Boy Prime Video, streaming now In order to combat crime in a perilous underworld, a group of former medal-winning athletes exchange the podium for police badges. In an exciting, action-packed ride, Yun Dong-ju (Park Bo-gum) and his group battle a formidable criminal syndicate. Also on Prime Video, we have season 2 of The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, courtesy of producers Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne. The Better Sister Prime Video, streaming now D'you know what society needs? More portrayals of women being pitted against each other. Based on Alafair Burke's novel, however, this eight-part thriller attempts to turn things. When media executive Chloe (Jessica Biel) and her estranged sister Nicky (Elizabeth Banks) are reunited after a murder, they must unravel long-buried family secrets to uncover the truth. Criminal Code Netflix, streaming now Season 2 of the Brazilian action series inspired by real crimes sees an elite Federal Police unit take on a ruthless gang in a high-stakes battle. For a telenovela twist, The Heart Knows follows a man who unknowingly falls for his heart donor's widow. Yep. Power Moves with Shaquille O'Neal Netflix, streaming now NBA legends Shaquille O'Neal and Allen Iverson were among the biggest names sporting Reebok in the '90s. Now, O'Neal is trying to revive the brand's legacy and find a rising star to rep it (his son being among the potential candidates).

The Zoo RTÉ One, 8.30pm Zookeepers Sarah and Grechen visit Sierra Leone's Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary to find out how Dublin Zoo's support is helping orphaned chimps and the fight against poachers and land loss. Austin BBC One, 9.30pm The comedy's final episode sees Austin (Michael Theo) head out for some time alone, something that upsets Julian. Later, Ingrid is bitterly disappointed when neither her husband or stepson turn up at the opening of her exhibition. Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody RTÉ One, 9.35pm Naomi Ackie plays the tragic singer and actress in this biographical drama made with the backing of Houston's family. It charts her rise to fame, from her teenage years as a choir girl, to international recognition. Stanley Tucci co-stars. The Next Best Thing RTÉ One, 12.20am Madonna and Rupert Everett head the cast of this likeable comedy-drama. She plays a yoga instructor, while he's the gay best friend who fathers her child. They plan to raise the baby together, until she falls in love with another man. Sirens Netflix, streaming now I might very well be getting ahead of myself, highlighting a series that isn't released until Thursday, but it will be worth the wait. And, no, it has nothing to do with that 1994 dramady starring Elle Macpherson and Portia de Rossi in a pond. Instead, we have Julianne Moore, her hubby Kevin Bacon, and a herd of willing devotees trussed up like pastel Easter eggs somewhere very New Englandy altogether. Meet Devon (Meghann Fahy). She roles into town armed with a gift basket of rotting fruit courtesy of her sister (Milly Alcock), who is refusing to acknowledge their sick father. Devon is suspicious of her sister Simone's unsettling bond with Michaela 'KiKi' Kell (Moore), an enigmatic socialite whose luxurious, cult-like world is intoxicating. While staging an intervention, Devon misreads the pieces at play. Expect a darkly funny look at power, class and women with a serious case of the Stepfords. 'Welcome, ladies, sips and nibbles are in the back!' ADVERTISEMENT She The People Netflix, streaming now As she tries to forge her way in politics, Mississippi's first black lieutenant governor must manage her family and tackle a boss who's stuck in Confederate times. Racial stereotypes abound in this Tyler Perry series. Sneaky Links: Dating After Dark Netflix, streaming now Another bikini-clad dating show. Yaaaaaay. Six singles check into a motel looking for love, but there has to be a twist — their casual situationships are headbanging around there too. Can these hook-ups turn into real romance, or will there be too many distractions? Rematch Disney+, streaming now This psychological thriller, based on actual events, tells the story of the historic match-up between IBM's Deep Blue supercomputer and the greatest chess player of all time, Garry Kasparov. If you'd prefer to immerse yourself in the comforting confines of food rather than the ongoing human versus machine debate, maybe give Tucci In Italy a whirl instead. Untold: The Fall of Favre Netflix, streaming now Brett Favre is a Hall of Famer, three-time MVP, and Super Bowl champion, but that's not all. His legacy, disputes and jarring scandals — including a welfare fraud scheme — are unearthed in this week's edition. The Wimbledon Killer Prime Video, streaming now Rachel Nickell was fatally stabbed on Wimbledon Common in July 1992, resulting in Colin Stagg's wrongful arrest. Despite years of searching, the real killer remained unknown, while Robert Napper continued his violent spree across south London. Love Rat Netflix, streaming now As a recent divorcee doing her best Shirley Valentine in Cyprus, Sally Lindsay finds herself in serious trouble — until her holiday romance devolves into theft, deceit and intimidation. Bet Netflix, streaming now At an elite boarding school where the kids of bad people use gambling to dictate status, a new student disrupts the hierarchy, challenging the student council while secretly plotting revenge for her parents' deaths. Think Descendants but with a dash of Monster High meets The Winx Saga and something far more salacious. If real-world drama ignites you more, there's a short film set in a maximum prison called The Quilers. Murderbot AppleTV+, streaming now Based on The Murderbot Diaries, the series follows a rogue and wildly introverted Murderbot (Alexander Skarsgard), who hides its free will while tackling murderous missions. He's like Robocop but more into soap operas.

'Wine Safari' returns to Forest Park Zoo with global tastings and animal encounters
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Zoo in Forest Park is inviting guests on a one-of-a-kind adventure that pairs global wines with wildlife education at its annual 'Wine Safari' event. Fawn rescued from Springfield's Forest Park construction area The popular fundraising event, set for Saturday, May 31, from 2 to 6 p.m., offers adults a chance to sip wine from around the world while meeting animals native to those regions. Guests will have the opportunity to interact with animals and hear directly from the zoo's animal care and education teams during scheduled keeper talks. 'How often do you get to drink wine for a good cause?' said Gabry Tyson, assistant executive director at The Zoo in Forest Park. 'Wine Safari is a unique way to support our animals' care, as many cannot survive in the wild for reasons related to injury, illness, permanent disability, or habituation to humans.' The admission ticket includes wine samples served throughout the event (while supplies last), a reusable wine glass provided by MGM Springfield, and food from Jersey Mike's Longmeadow. All attendees must be 21 or older and present a valid ID at the entrance. The Zoo will remain open to the public for regular admission from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 31, but will close early at 1 p.m. to allow staff time to prepare for the event. Tickets must be purchased in advance through the zoo's website, and availability is limited. Bad Thoughts Netflix, streaming now If you fancy Black Mirror vibes but with bloody slapstick humour, this collection of wildly disturbing stories pushes the boundaries of decency in ways only Tom Segura could conjure. Expect tales from a country music star who mines people's misery in exchange for spoiled prawns, a tortured barista, and lots of other delightful weirdness. Speaking of which, a new volume of Love, Death and Robots landed yesterday. A Deadly American Marriage Netflix, streaming now The story of Jason Corbett and Molly Martens was always going to be made into a Netflix documentary. Corbett, a widower, got married in 2008 to Martens, his Tennessee au pair. They left Ireland to start over in North Carolina with his kids, Jack and Sarah. Their story took a dark turn in August 2015, when Molly and her dad, former FBI agent Thomas Martens, were in an altercation resulting in Jason's death. Molly later entered a no-contest plea, claiming self-defence, while Thomas was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in 2023. After their 2024 prison release, uncertainty remained about certain facets. Directed by Jessica Burgess and Jenny Popplewell, this documentary includes exclusive interviews providing insight into the divergent perspectives of those involved, leaving some grappling with the question of: 'Who was the real victim?' And, given Jack and Sarah's unbelievably brave contributions, the answer to that would be: the kids. Octopus! Prime Video, streaming now Narrated by Phoebe Fleabag Waller-Bridge, this marvellous mash-up chronicles being killed by a lover, losing yourself in Mexico, spotting a unicorn, befriending a competitive quilter, exploring our connection with aliens, and extra Tracy Morgan. This is how all nature documentaries ought to be produced from now on. Rose International Dance Prize Marquee TV, streaming now For those unfamiliar with Marquee TV, it's your global streaming platform for the arts. This 60-minute film, narrated by Fiona Shaw (Bad Sisters, Harry Potter, plus too many more to mention), sees internationally acclaimed choreographers compete for dance's version of the Oscars. The Match Netflix, streaming now If you're watching season two of The Devil's Plan and wondering why there's always a Go master in the line-up, this cut-throat drama could give you some context. For something at the other end of the spectrum entirely, Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon and a rake load of other famous people star in Nonnas.

This time, they're careening around 17 European destinations closer to home. Forever Netflix, streaming now Mara Brock Akil has adapted Judy Blume's seminal 1975 book for a new generation. Set in 2018 LA, it's an epic love story about two black teenagers who explore their identities via the seismic experience of being each other's firsts. Untold: Shooting Guards Netflix, streaming now We're getting treated to our annual dose of Untold a little bit earlier this year. Usually released in the autumn, the always revelatory and expertly shot documentary series continues to chronicle the untold aspects of some of sport's darkest stories. With three all-new films releasing weekly across May 6, 13, and 20, this new series kicks off with an anatomy of former Washington Wizards teammates Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton. Their collective claim to fame is jarring the world of basketball by drawing guns on each other in their NBA locker room in 2009. Through raw first-hand accounts, Arenas and Crittenton unpack the events that had a life-altering impact on both men, which ultimately led Crittenton down a dark and tragic path. Keeping with sporting releases, season two of Full Speed has landed, chronicling all the drama surrounding the 2024 NASCAR championship. The Devil's Plan: Death Room Netflix, streaming now Prepare to be amazed, enraged, and very confused at certain junctures as a clutch of new contenders convene for a new battle of minds (and those all-important pieces). From a poker pro to the mandatory 'Go' legend, to a Hollywood actor and another lawyer, who will triumph through this season's endless challenges? Star Wars: Tales Of The Underworld Disney+, streaming now Where else would you be getting yet more unsolicited Star Wars-related viewing? This time it's animated and features the tribulations of bounty hunter Asajj Ventress and outlaw Cad Bane over six episodes. The Handmaid's Tale Prime Video, streaming now While I still can't bring myself to watch it, for those of you fully immersed in the 'fictional' realm of Gilead, the sixth and final season is now available. The Four Seasons Netflix, streaming now Three couples — Kate (Tina Fey) and Jack (Will Forte), Nick (Steve Carell) and Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), plus Danny (Colman Domingo) and Claude (Marco Calvani) — face serious introspection when one of the couples announces their split. For more saccharine aspirational viewing, Prime Video has released Another Simple Favour, starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. A Complete Unknown Disney+, streaming now Arriving in 1960s New York armed with his guitar, 19-year-old Bob Dylan (portrayed by Timothée Chalamet's impressive jawline) is set to revolutionise American music. Angi: Fake Life, True Crime Netflix, streaming now In 2008, the remains of 35-year-old designer Ana Páez were discovered in Barcelona. Dubbed 'The Almost Perfect Crime', this documentary revisits the case and explores the dark past of María Ángeles Molina ('Angi') and her late husband. In other European offerings, the final instalment of Lost Bullet arrives Wednesday, while AppleTV+ is now offering pastry, espionage, and Bridgerton levels of fornication in Carême.
