UAE women make history by retiring all 10 batswomen

Bangkok, May 11 (UNI) In a first-of-its-kind occurrence in international cricket, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) women's team retired out all ten batswomen during a T20 International match against Qatar in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier here. Opting to bat first at the Terdthai Cricket Ground, the UAE openers — Esha Oza and Theertha Satish — stitched together a commanding 192-run partnership in just 16 overs before each of them voluntarily retired out, along with the remaining eight players, to bring the innings to a close without the loss of a single wicket. This unprecedented move — never before witnessed in any form of international cricket — was reportedly taken by the UAE team management due to looming rain and the desire to force a result in the weather-threatened encounter. Head coach and former international allrounder Ahmed Raza, believing the total was more than sufficient, made the strategic decision to end the innings early. Since declarations are not permitted in limited-overs cricket, each batswomen ran in and retired out in sequence. Esha struck a brilliant 113 off 55 deliveries, hitting 14 boundaries and five sixes, while Theertha contributed an unbeaten 74 from 42 balls. In reply, Qatar were bowled out for just 29 runs in 11.1 overs, with only three batswomen troubling the scorers. Rizpha Bano Emmanuel top-scored with 20, while the rest of the lineup folded meekly, resulting in 15 ducks — a record in women's T20I history. The match forms part of the ongoing Asia Region Qualifier, which acts as the gateway to the global qualifiers for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026. The top two teams from the tournament will advance to the next stage. UNI BDN SSP

UAE becomes first team in history of cricket to retire out all 10 batters during T20I game

New Delhi: The United Arab Emirates women's team registered a unique record as they became the first team in international cricket to retire out all 10 batters during a T20I game, as reported by Playing against Qatar in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier 2025 at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok, UAE, posted 192 without loss in just 16 overs before voluntarily ending their innings in a highly unusual yet tactical move. Since declarations are not permitted in limited-overs cricket, the batters ran onto the field one by one and declared themselves retired out - a first in the sport's international history. Under overcast skies and with rain threatening to disrupt play, the UAE management made a calculated decision to accelerate the match. At the end of the 16th over, with a commanding total already on the board, head coach and former international all-rounder Ahmed Raza opted to end the innings. Believing the 192-run opening stand was more than sufficient, the team retired all 10 batters to expedite the game and give themselves a better chance of securing a result before any weather interruptions. Openers Esha Oza and Theertha Satish led the innings with a dominant 192-run stand. Oza smashed 113 off 55 balls, including 14 fours and five sixes, while Satish contributed 74 off 42 deliveries. With no wickets lost and four overs remaining, the UAE lineup chose to withdraw from the crease, forcing the remaining eight players - none of whom faced a ball - to also retire out. In response, Qatar collapsed for 29 runs in 11.1 overs. Only three batters managed to score, with Rizpha Bano Emmanuel accounting for nearly all of Qatar's runs with a knock of 20 from 29 balls. The UAE vs Qatar cricket match saw a record 15 ducks, the most in a women's T20 International history. The 2025 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, hosted by Thailand, is a key event in the qualification process for the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup. The top two teams will secure their spots in the global qualifier.

From 192/0 To 192/10: All 10 Players Retire Out, Win Match By 163 Runs

The cricketing world saw a bizarre incident on Saturday when United Arab Emirates (UAE) women's team squared off against Qatar in the Women's T20 World Cup, Asia Qualifiers 2025 match. Opting to bat, UAE posted a good score of 192 with openers Esha Rohit Oza (113) and Theertha Satish (74) stitching an unbeaten partnership. However, something very unusual took place after that as the entire UAE team got retired out and gave a target of 193 to Qatar. This was the first time in the history of cricket that all the players of a team got retired out. The reason behind this 'retire out' tactic of UAE was that the match, which was being played in Bangkok, was under a rain threat. If rain would have played a spoilsport, the points would have been shared between both the teams and to avoid that, UAE used this bizarre tactic to force an early conclusion. This strategy worked in the favour of UAE as with the ball, they bowled out Qatar for just 29 runs, hence, wrapping up the match with a positive result before the weather could interrupt. Talking about the match, skipper Esha Rohit Oza scored 113 off 55 balls, along with Theertha Satish, who scored 74 off 42 balls. None of the Qatar bowlers were able to scalp a wicket but UAE batters ended their innings on their own by getting retired out. Later in the chase, Qatar could not even inch closer towards the target and got bundled out for just 29. Opener Rizpha Emmanuel was the top-scorer for Qatar with 20 runs. For UAE, Michelle Botha took three wickets while Katie Thompson took two. With this victory, UAE have climbed to the top of the points table with two wins in as many games. Thailand are at the second spot with three points in two matches. Currently, Qatar are at the bottom of the table with the loss in their first match.

UAE retires all batters in ICC Asia Qualifiers

UNUSUAL TACTICS: UAE women's team celebrates the dismissal of a Qatar batswoman in the opening match of the ICC Asia Qualifiers in Bangkok on Saturday. PHOTO: ICC The United Arab Emirates (UAE) women's cricket team astonishingly retired all 10 of their batters during their 163-run victory over Qatar in the Women's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier match here at the Terdthai Cricket Ground on Saturday. Opting to bat first, UAE openers Esha Oza and Theertha Satish came out all guns blazing and put together a quickfire 192-run stand in just 16 overs. Skipper Oza spearheaded the only partnership of the UAE's innings with a century. She remained the top-scorer for the UAE with 113 off 55 deliveries, studded with 14 fours and five sixes. Her fellow opener, Satish, on the other hand, made 74 off 42 balls, laced with 11 boundaries. With the scoreboard reading 192/0 in 16 overs, UAE made a surprising decision of dismissing themselves by retiring out all of their batters – the first such instance in a women's or men's T20Is. As a result, UAE's 192 became the highest all out score in a women's T20I. Qatar were thus set a target of 193 in 20 overs, but a combined bowling effort from UAE booked them for a meagre 29 in 11.1 overs. Opening batter Rizpha Bano Emmanuel waged a lone battle for Qatar with a 29-ball 20 up the order, while the rest of their batters failed to amass double figures, out of which seven fell for a duck. Nine teams competing in ICC Asia Qualifiers The road to qualification for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 resumed on Friday with the start of the Asia Qualifiers in Bangkok, where nine nations are competing in the hope of extending their journey through to England and Wales. Twenty-one matches will take place across 12 days, spanning two venues in the Thai capital, and the opening day sees the host nation take on Kuwait at Terdthai Cricket Ground (TCG), while Nepal play Hong Kong China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) face off against Malaysia, both at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) ground. The format for the event will see Thailand, Kuwait, and Bhutan compete in Group A, UAE, Malaysia and Qatar form Group B and Nepal, Hong Kong China and Bahrain in Group C. Following an initial round robin phase which concludes on 16 May, the winners of each of the three groups advance to a Super Three stage, with another round of fixtures ultimately determining the top two teams that will progress to the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifier – the final stage on the road to England and Wales 2026. All matches in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 Asia Qualifier will be available to watch live on while fans in the Asian subcontinent can follow the action on FanCode. The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales will see a greater number of teams (12) and matches (33) than ever before. Venues and dates for the pinnacle T20 event were announced last week in a special launch event, where it was revealed that Edgbaston, Hampshire Bowl, Headingley, Old Trafford Cricket Ground, The Oval and Bristol County Ground will host matches from 12 June, with a highly anticipated final set for Lord's Cricket Ground on 5 July. Eight teams have already gained automatic qualification to the event; holders New Zealand, Australia, England, India, South Africa and the West Indies by virtue of their performances at the 2024 edition, plus Pakistan and Sri Lanka, who were the two next highest ranked teams on the ICC Women's T20I rankings table on 21 October 2024. The four remaining spots will be determined through a ten-team Qualifier, comprising Bangladesh, Scotland and teams that have advanced from regional pathway events including USA as Americas Qualifier champions, two teams from the Asia Qualifier and others that advance from subsequent competitions held in Africa, Europe and the East Asia-Pacific later this year.

The cricket world has been left in disbelief after watching the United Arab Emirates (UAE) retire all 10 batters in a crazy Women's T20 World Cup qualifier. UAE openers Esha Oza and Theertha Satish had smashed their way to 0/192 in 16 overs when the team made the call to speed up their innings in order to try and wrap the game up before rain was expected to hit the TerdThai Cricket Ground in Bangkok, Thailand. There were extraordinary scenes as UAE's batters lined up in procession on the boundary rope to retire their innings without facing a delivery. There are no declarations in international T20 cricket, so retiring all their batters was the quickest option available to coach Ahmed Raza. Leading cricket scribe Paul Radley described the scenes as 'proper madness'. Understandably, he also described the innings scorecard as 'crazy'. In reply, Qatar survived just 11.1 and were knocked over for 29 runs, giving the UAE a 163-run victory. Only three Qatari batters were able to score runs with seven ducks recorded on their innings. With the UAE retirements counting as ducks, there were a history-shattering 15 ducks in the game. The UAE's innings was the first instance of a team retiring more than two batters in a men's or women's international match. Captain Oza was the player of the match after striking 113 from 55 balls and also picking up a wicket. Satish also hit 74 from 42 balls before the retirements began. It was Michelle Botha who did the damage with the ball for the UAE, taking three wickets for just 11 runs. It was the UAE's second consecutive victory at the Asia Qualifier event and puts them in the box seat to progress to the Super Three stage of the event as the top team in Group B. The top two teams will progress to the Global Qualifier.
