Singer Lorde faced 'such damage' after poor arena tour sales
New Zealand singer Lorde has recalled looking out at "massive drapes" covering rows of empty seats during her 2017/2018 Melodrama arena tour and admits she "had such damage" over the experience. In April, the 28-year-old released her first solo single since 2021 called What Was That. Now, the Auckland native is gearing up for her Ultrasound Tour, which kicks off in September in support of her upcoming fourth album, Virgin. Speaking to the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast, Lorde said not packing out her previous arena tour left her feeling "so vulnerable". "This is my first arena show since then, because I had such damage from that feeling," she said. "People don't think about the fact that the person on stage, whose name is on the banner, is looking at someone walking out, some seat not being full. It's so vulnerable." Asked to give advice to artists who may find themselves in a similar situation, she said: "You have to just be like, 'Oh my God, it's insane how many people are here,'" she said. "It's incredible. People paying money. And they love it, and they don't ever think you did a bad job. They love it; you couldn't do a bad job." The Royals singer most recently delighted US fans with a surprise Coachella appearance alongside British singer Charlie XCX. During the set, she announced it was "Lorde Summer 2025", leading fans to speculate the new album will be released in the coming months.

Lea Michele 'completely broke' after Cory Monteith's death
Lea Michele "completely broke" after Cory Monteith's death. The 38-year-old actress - who shot to fame playing Rachel Berry in 'Glee' - dated her co-star from 2012 until his shock death from a heroin and alcohol overdose in July 2013, and not only did she find having to grieve in the public eye "so sad, so depressing", she felt the tragedy "fractured" many of the off-screen bonds on the show. She told the 'Therapuss with Jake Shane' podcast: "It was so unbelievable but I just had to keep going, I wasn't allowed to stop." Asked if Cory's death had helped the cast "band together", she added: "No, I think it really fractured so much. I mean again, I can't speak for everyone, I think in some ways it did for certain people, but I think that ... for me it was so hard to I just completely broke." Although she thanked the cast and particularly the crew for "holding [her] up so much", she added: "A lot of [the original cast] were gone by then which was hard." Lea - who has two children, Every, four, and nine-month-old Emery, with husband Zandy Reich - has remained close to some of her former co-stars, including Dianna Agron and Darren Criss, and they will always be "family" to her. She said: "To me it's like there is such a comfort because we all really did go through something that only we will ever understand, so it's just, I feel so safe with them and so comfortable — family forever.' The actress has very clear memories of her time on the show and what was going on behind the scenes at the time. Asked if there was anything happening backstage that she wished the people watching knew about, she said: 'Literally everything … we were all so young and everybody was growing up and falling in love and for me that was a huge part of the whole experience for me ... was my, this great love. "It was so unbelievable that you would be watching the show and when I watch it I can tell you exactly ... I'd be like 'Oh, that day I was sobbing in my dressing room.' Or, 'That day was the best day in the world' ... But the only people that know all of that were the people who were in that room." Lea also teased that she may "write a book" one day about her "wild" experiences during the filming of 'Glee'. She added: "The show means so much to me, the work that I did, and I love Rachel so much."

Lea Michele Responds To Rumors That She Can't Read
Lea Michele had a few choice words for the people spreading the false rumor that she can't read. Since her days on Glee more than a decade ago, Lea has been the subject of a wild conspiracy theory that she doesn't know how to read, and she has had other people recite her lines to her so she can memorize them. On the May 8 episode of the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast, Lea did her best to put the rumor that she's illiterate to rest. "For everyone who thinks that I can't fucking read I was on the debate team. I would write speeches," Lea said. Jake then asked, "You must think that rumor is hysterical, or does it really piss you off?" "It depends on the day," Lea replied. "Sometimes I think it's crazy that people care enough about me that they would make up something. That someone has so little to do in their life in their day that they would waste it on me is hilarious to me. And then there are moments where I fucking get so frustrated by it because I'm one of the only women in my whole family to get accepted to college." Lea continued, "You know my mother and my mother's whole family was extremely poor from the Bronx, not very well educated, and my parents moved me from the Bronx to New Jersey to get a good education and to thrive. And I did. My parents and my family are so proud of that, and it really was so important for my grandmother to see me, and for someone to minimize that, it's so sad and so frustrating. But yeah, I don't know — it's wild. It's a crazy thing." Lea remembered that Glee creator Ryan Murphy told her about the rumor in 2015. "I'll never forget the same day that all came out Donald Trump said he was going to punch John McCain in the face or something like that. It was 2015 and he said something so wild but what was trending online more was Lea Michele can't read." "Ryan Murphy called me and was like 'Have you heard this rumor?' and I was like, 'No, what's going on?' and the fact that we are here all these years later," she added. Lea then grabbed Jake's notecards to prove that she can read in real time. "Give me the notes, I'm reading them! I didn't memorize them! Jonathan [Groff] is not here to read me this shit." Lea joked, "What does this word say?" and realized that it probably won't matter if she attempts to disprove the rumor on the podcast because people will just make theories about that, too. "The theories, oh my god the theories their going to be like Jake called her in advance. This doesn't prove anything. She memorized it. She saw the cards in advance," Lea said. "This proves nothing." Lea added that Jonathan Groff did an interview where he was asked about the rumor. "Jonathan did a podcast that someone was like, 'Can Lea read?' and his response to me was so funny he was like 'Do you really think she can't? What the fuck does that say about you.'" In the end, Lea seemingly confirmed that part of the rumor that she memorizes her lines is factual. "I have photographic memory too. How do you think I memorized all those Rachel Berry speeches?" I think it's safe to say Lea Michele can read AND memorize lines, y'all. Besides, look at how she read all the haters. That's talent. And, if you thought that was juicy, you can watch the full episode here.

Lea Michele shuts down yearslong rumor she can't read — by reading on video
Lea Michele is attempting to close the chapter on the viral online theory that she can't read. The "Glee" actress appeared on the "Therapuss with Jake Shane" podcast on May 7 where she dispelled the theory and, at one point, even recited Shane's cue cards out loud to prove it. The rumor that Michele secretly can't read, which dates back to 2017, has run rampant on the internet. While she's briefly addressed it several times over the years, her latest response offers the most solid evidence yet to quiet the conspiracy theorists once and for all. While talking about her experience on the debate team growing up, Michele brought up the viral rumor about whether she can read. "For everyone who thinks that I can't (expletive) read — like I was on the debate team, I mean I would write speeches," she said. As for whether she finds the theory funny, Michele said "it depends on the day." "That someone has so little to do in their life and their day that they would waste it on me is hilarious to me," she said. "And then there are moments where I (expletive) get so frustrated by it because I'm one of the only women in my whole family to get accepted to college." She added, "for someone to minimize that, it's so sad and so frustrating." Michele also said "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy was the first person to tell her about the viral theory. "Ryan Murphy called me and he was like 'Have you heard this rumor?' And I was like 'No what's going on?' And yeah, the fact that we are here all these years later," she said. Can Lea Michele read? Keke Palmer weighs in on conspiracy theory The rumor started in 2017 when podcasters Jaye Hunt and Robert Ackerman posted a video to social media presenting their theory that Michele can't read or write. They later told Jezebel that it originated from late "Glee" actor Naya Rivera's memoir "Sorry Not Sorry," which includes a story about Michele allegedly refusing to improvise scenes on the show. Michele has poked fun at the rumors before, including in a 2022 TikTok video where she said she was "calling Jonathan to read me the comments." She also told The New York Times in 2022 that she finds the rumor to be sad. 'I went to 'Glee' every single day; I knew my lines every single day,' she said. Michele also read some of the cue cards during her appearance on "Therapuss," seemingly squashing the long-standing rumors. "Jonathan is not here to read me this (expletive)" she said. The podcast shared a clip from the interview on social media. The TikTok cuts off before Michele begins reading, but the full, hourlong episode is available on YouTube. She also acknowledged that her recitation may not satisfy everyone online. "The theories are going to be like, 'Jake called her in advance, this doesn't prove anything,'" she said.
