Stars of Tomorrow: A night of magic and community support

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — 2,400 Costume Clad students, their drama teachers, parents, friends, and other supporters brought the energy of a big time award show to the Rochester Broadway Theatre League Friday. Stars of Tomorrow is the biggest night for theatre kids in the Greater Rochester area. Students from 42 local schools performing selections from their high school musicals. The annual recognition ceremony begins with an opening performance and is always full of good energy, sincere support, and talented teens. News 8 spoke with two Hilton high school students who say they are thrilled that their school is participating for the first time this year. 'I'm so excited,' Hilton High School sophomore Lylah Mason said. 'I've already dreamed about this. It's like the Tonys just for teens.' 'It was just wonderful to see the community support and how everyone since they knew we were doing this, it was extra special to have the community support,' Hilton High School senior Grant Wood. 'Truly, it's just the sound of the cheering and the love that they have for each other and it fills me for the rest of the year,' RBTL Director of Education Holly Valentine said. Valentine called it a night full of magic, and News 8's Theresa Marsenburg agrees. For the past three years, Theresa has been honored to give the News 8 welcome, and instead of pumping up the kids. 'They fill me with such great energy,' Marsenburg said. And as a long time supporter, WROC will launch the 'Stars of Tomorrow' webpage on Monday morning. It will feature the student performers selected to return to RBTL later this month for round two of Stars of Tomorrow. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite performer. Gamma Iota Boule awards $11,000 scholarships for excellence

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Gamma Iota Boule Foundation hosted the ninth annual recognition luncheon celebrating student achievement and community support. This year's ceremony embodied the theme 'Cultivating and Celebrating Excellence' — recognizing young, outstanding scholars in the community. News 8's Theresa Marsenburg was a presenter at the event again this year as students in the Rochester community were awarded scholarships totaling $11,000 contributed by local businesses, foundations and donors. 'This is a community interested in growing and improving a part of our vision is to make Rochester an outstanding place to live and this is one of the steps we take to make that vision a reality,' Gamma Iota Boule Foundation Chairman Matthew Augustine said. Dr. Frederick Jefferson Jr. received the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award. At 90, Dr. Jefferson just retired from the University of Rochester in December. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
