Federico Chiesa gives coy response regarding Liverpool future after making just one start in the Reds Premier League title-winning season

Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa admits a return to Italy is 'something to think about' this summer. The 27-year-old finished a frustrating maiden campaign in England, in which he featured just 14 times after arriving late in August in a £10million deal, as a Premier League winner and is currently targeting a return to pre-season training on July 8. But asked about a return to his homeland, the Italy international told La Gazzetta dello Sport: 'That's something to think about during the summer. 'My family, my agent and I have a great relationship with Liverpool, and the goal is to be ready for the pre-season. 'We'll find the best solution for everyone. I work every day with a Liverpool programme to be in top shape for the tests on July 8. 'While out of the squad (at Juventus), I was able to train in great condition, but I missed playing friendlies. I had to start from scratch at Liverpool and that held me back. 'I hope (next season) it's my season. My dream is to participate in the World Cup.' When Chiesa arrived on Merseyside, he was unfit after being frozen out by Thiago Motta at the Turin club and not having a pre-season, and lacked match sharpness. The winger was then constantly playing catch-up in the early months of the season and as a result, could not get in the team ahead of others. He only managed a meagre 104 minutes of football in the Premier League, making just one start, which came against Brighton in the penultimate match of the campaign with the title wrapped up. However, despite not utilising Chiesa's skills throughout the season, Liverpool boss Arne Slot that he has a future at Anfield just last month. 'Does he have a future here? Yes, definitely he has, yes,' said Slot. 'Definitely. I think everyone playing for us over here has a future over here. 'Next season, if he comes back completely fit, which he has hardly been for the first half-season but then afterward he became fitter and fitter. The next step should have been playing time, which I couldn't give him. 'But I can give him playing time in pre-season, so he can build himself up and then go even further.' Chiesa is natural a winger who plays on the right, but with Mo Salah a staple in that position, opportunities were hard to come by as the Egyptian led Liverpool to a 20th title. Slot also said: 'In terms of the quality he has, he deserves more playing time but unfortunately for him he's in competition with Mo Salah. On the left, it's competition with Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz. Three players who have had a great season. 'He was not as fit as the others for a long time. That doesn't help in the beginning. Then the others did so well there's no reason to change. 'Is he good enough to play for us? Yes he is. But I've always felt Lucho, Cody and Mo deserved the confidence I had in them.' Chiesa has been linked with the likes of Napoli and Atletico Madrid, but there is yet to be any serious speculation of a departure. He has admitted that he would 'never say never' to a return to Turin, but there are no signs that is an option at the time of writing.

Tudor wants Juventus future decided before Club World Cup

Juventus secured Champions League football for next season on the final day of the Serie A season on Sunday, but manager Igor Tudor is still not certain to remain at the club and says he wants his future to be decided before the Club World Cup. Tudor replaced the sacked Thiago Motta in March, signing a contract until the end of this season. The club have the option to renew the deal for another year if Juventus qualified for the Champions League, which becomes an obligation after July 30. A 3-2 win at Venezia means Juventus finished the season fourth in the standings, and with the club taking part in the Club World Cup which begins on June 14 in the United States, Tudor was asked if he would still be at the helm. "Now there is the World Cup, but everything will be resolved before then," Tudor told Sky Sports. "I don't think it would be a good idea to go there without a decision, or make a decision (on a new manager) but then take the same coach there, it wouldn't be serious for me or for the club. "A choice will be made before the World Cup about the future, I think it's the right thing." Despite the uncertainty, Tudor is content with the job he has done at the club since taking charge. "I'm happy, it's beautiful because we've achieved something, but you have to accept this life as a coach. You are always on the brink," Tudor said. "If we hadn't won today, nothing would have changed for me, I would have felt like the same coach. Of course, if you win you are a little happier." Tudor may not be the man in charge by the time next season comes around but he gave his opinion on what the club needs to do in order to challenge for the league title. "First of all you need to be complete, in every game I have played there have been at least two starters missing," he said. "Juventus need two or three targeted signings, people who can bring experience. "In order to win trophies, you need an average age of 26 or 27. I'm not inventing it. We are a bit green, but there's quality, and I think you can win with a good job and two or three signings."

Arne Slot challenges Liverpool star to prove he has a future at the club after disappointing season

Arne Slot has thrown down the gauntlet and challenged Federico Chiesa to prove why he has a future at Liverpool this summer. The Italian is the only player to sign for the Reds since Slot joined the club but he has been restricted to a meagre 41 minutes in the Premier League. The 27-year-old was not even on the substitutes' bench during the 2-2 draw with Arsenal last week. Chiesa signed from Juventus for £10million last August but arrived unfit after being frozen out by Thiago Motta at the Turin club and not having a pre-season. He was playing catch-up in terms of fitness and then could not get in the team ahead of others. But Slot insisted Chiesa definitely has a future at Liverpool and said: 'Does he have a future here? Yes, definitely he has, yes. Definitely. I think everyone playing for us over here has a future over here. 'Next season, if he comes back completely fit, which he has hardly been for the first half-season but then afterwards he became fitter and fitter. The next steps should have been playing time, which I couldn't give him. 'But I can give him playing time in pre-season, so he can build himself up and then go even further. 'That was also one of the things, if you do so well – and it was the same with (Ibrahima) Konate and Virgil (Van Dijk) – some people say maybe you should rest one or two once in a while. 'I know for sure the chance of winning when I play them both is particularly high. So why would I take the risk of rotating? But yeah, pre-season gives (Chiesa and other fringe players) the chance to show themselves again.' Earlier, Slot had said on Chiesa: 'In terms of the quality he has, he deserves more playing time but unfortunately for him he's in competition with Mo Salah. On the left, it's competition with Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz. Three players who have had a great season. 'He was not as fit as the others for a long time. That doesn't help in the beginning. Tudor not concerned about his future after getting Juve out of a hole

May 16 (Reuters) - Igor Tudor's future as Juventus manager remains uncertain, even if he secures Champions League qualification, but the Croat said on Friday he believes he has done a good job in getting the club out of a hole and does not feel inferior to anybody. Tudor took over in March from Thiago Motta, with Juve out of the Champions League and Coppa Italia and on the back of two heavy Serie A defeats. The new manager has lost one in seven and his side are fourth in the standings with two games left. "Talking about my work is difficult. For me it was a good job given all the problems we had," Tudor told reporters ahead of Sunday's home game with mid-table Udinese. "We played two games with 10 players (after red cards). We played some good games and against Parma we didn't deserve to lose (1-0 last month). I always had a good feeling after games. "Then, we always have to be demanding and always try to win, but the team gave everything it could. When I arrived, the team was in the deepest hole." Tudor believes things could have gone even better if injuries had not hampered his side. "It's fair to say that we never had (Federico) Gatti and (Teun) Koopmeiners, rarely had (Andrea) Cambiaso and (Lloyd) Kelly available," Tudor said. "I think it's right to say things from my point of view. I don't want to apologise, but it's fair to say it. This team, when complete, is strong and can fight with everyone." Tudor has a contract until the end of this season. The club have the option to renew the deal for another year if Juventus qualify for the Champions League, although that becomes an obligation after July 30. The usual Italian media speculation over managerial changes has linked league-leading Napoli's coach Antonio Conte with a return to Juve, where the club's former player won three Serie A titles as manager, but Tudor is unconcerned. "I live from day-to-day, I enjoy everything and I suffer," Tudor said. "I want to feel the trust of the players and I feed on this. That's the beauty of it. I don't feel inferior to anyone." Juventus face a battle to hold onto fourth spot, with fifth-placed Lazio level with them on 64 points and AS Roma one point behind, while Bologna and AC Milan are also eyeing the last Champions League spot. Udinese are 12th on 44 points.
