DOHA: Qatar Airways posted a 28% jump in annual net profit to a record 7.8 billion Qatari riyals ($2.1 billion), according to a preliminary statement issued by the airline on Monday. 'We have also successfully implemented strategic partnerships throughout the industry, in order for the Group to remain agile in the face of ever-shifting world events, whether political, economic or environmental,' CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer was quoted as saying in a statement from the airline. The government-owned airline's revenue and passenger data from the last year were not yet available. The airline's complete annual report was expected to be published on Monday morning. In the last year, Qatar Airways, seeking to boost passenger numbers and connectivity, bought a 25% stake in Virgin Australia and a 25% stake in South Africa-based regional carrier Airlink. Qatar Airways rejects reports of office closures in Pakistan The airline placed a firm order last week for 160 Boeing 777X and 787 planes with GE Aerospace engines worth $96 billion, the largest widebody deal ever for the companies. Qatar Airways has options to buy 50 more of the Boeing jetliners. Qatar Airways is broadening horizons for travellers to and from the Americas with its upcoming increase in flights to Toronto and São Paulo. Reaffirming its focus on serving growing demand, the airline will serve Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) with five weekly flights from June 19, and São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) with 17 weekly flights from June 25. Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Thierry Antinori, said: 'We launched our services to Toronto Pearson Airport less than six months ago and have seen a strong response in the market. We are proud to announce the increase in flights to meet the growing demand for our award-winning travel experience. Qatar Airways flights to Brazil and Canada 'At the same time, we are expanding in South America with additional flights to São Paulo, a key gateway and strategic hub for business and leisure travel.' The airline inaugurated its flights to Toronto in December 2024 ahead of the festive season, and is planning to offer daily flights to the city this coming winter to provide passengers across Canada enhanced connectivity to Doha and beyond. Qatar Airways and Philippine Airlines have partnered to expand service between Doha and Manila, providing greater connectivity for passengers from the Philippines traveling to Qatar and other regions. Starting from 16 June 2025, Philippine Airlines will offer daily nonstop flights between Manila and Doha, codesharing on seven weekly flights operated by Qatar Airways. The daily flights will depart Manila at 18:50 and arrive in Doha at 23:40, offering perfect connectivity to over 170 destinations in the Qatar Airways network. Passengers will enjoy the luxury and comfort of transferring at Hamad International Airport (DOH), the World's Best Airport in the Middle East. Eastbound travellers arriving in Doha on Qatar Airways flights can easily connect onto Philippine Airlines flights departing daily from Doha at 01:30 for a convenient afternoon arrival at Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
