Bridgerton fans call out Simone Ashley's absence from teaser, question show's treatment of Kate Sharma
The latest Bridgerton teaser trailer has reignited fan frustration over the show's alleged sidelining of Simone Ashley and her character, Kate Sharma. Ashley, who starred as the female lead in Bridgerton Season 2 alongside Jonathan Bailey's Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, was noticeably absent from the teaser despite being confirmed to return for the upcoming season, according to BuzzFeed. Many viewers took to social media to question why Ashley was missing, especially since other lead characters were featured. A viral X (formerly Twitter) thread with over 1.5 million views detailed how Ashley and her character received noticeably less promotional focus than previous female leads. Unlike Season 1's stars Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page or Season 3's Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton, Ashley and Bailey did not receive joint interviews, promotional photoshoots, or magazine covers celebrating their on-screen romance. Fans also pointed out issues with how Kate's character has been framed in promotional content. Many noted that she has been described in unflattering terms by some involved in the show's production and remains the only female lead whose last name has not changed after marriage. Critics argue this undermines her role as Viscountess Bridgerton, a title typically emphasized in Bridgerton's storytelling. Some fans speculate that Ashley's busy schedule, including upcoming roles in This Tempting Madness and Picture This, may have influenced her absence from Bridgerton's promotions. However, Ashley has repeatedly expressed her enthusiasm for the show and her character's journey. Despite ongoing concerns, Ashley has reassured fans that she is committed to Bridgerton, stating, 'Kate and Anthony are here to stay.'

'Bridgerton' Fans Are Calling Out The Show's Alleged Mistreatment Of Simone Ashley, And It's So Important
Bridgerton fans are defending Simone Ashley amid renewed discourse around the show's alleged treatment of her and her on-screen character. For context, Simone plays Kate Sharma in the hit Netflix series. Kate was the leading character of Season 2, alongside love interest Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey. Fans have long called out the team behind Bridgerton for failing to promote and celebrate Jonathan and Simone in the same way that they did with their other leading pairs, like Season 1's Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page and Season 3's Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton. Viewers have also accused the show of giving Kate and Anthony less of a storyline compared with the other leading couples. With all of this in mind, fans were left disappointed to see no sign of Kate in the new Bridgerton teaser trailer this week, even though the actor is confirmed to return in the upcoming season. Given that Simone's character is the only main one missing from the teaser, her absence quickly sparked a heap of discourse amongst Bridgerton fans, some of whom accused the show of purposefully omitting Kate from the trailer. 'bridgerton season 3 announcement video including everyone in the cast EXCEPT simone ashley. bridgerton season 4 teaser video including everyone in the cast EXCEPT simone ashley,' one tweet read. 'Where's Kate?!?!' someone else questioned. 'Unless there is some major drama behind the scenes, Simone has done nothing to deserve this treatment,' one user said. 'WHERE IS SIMONE ASHLEY,' another person asked. Before long, a now-viral thread on X with over 1.5 million views outlined numerous instances where the team behind Bridgerton seemingly sidelined Simone and her onscreen character. The thread points out that Simone and Jonathan did not partake in promotional photoshoots or magazine covers like the other leading couples, nor did they sit down for joint interviews as a pair to discuss their characters' love story. The tweets also draw attention to how Kate has been described unflatteringly by some of the people behind Bridgerton and how she is the only female character whose name has not changed after getting married. The viral thread, which you can read in full here, has since sparked more discourse around Kate/Simone's treatment on the show. 'Literally from day one Kate (now VISCOUNTESS BRIDGERTON mind you) has been denied the bare minimum afforded to every single other Bridgerton female romantic lead: promo solely with her love interest, a backstory, a wedding, a baby and now they've even denied her her married name,' one person wrote. 'The production team's apparent disrespect towards her is just downright disgusting,' said another. It is worth mentioning that Simone is booked and busy. She's set to star in Jennifer E. Montgomery's upcoming thriller, This Tempting Madness, and Prime Video romcom Picture This, which will be released next month. It's unclear whether Simone's commitment to other projects had anything to do with her supposed lack of sufficient Bridgerton promotion. However, Simone has repeatedly said that she's keen to remain on the period drama and that "Kate Anthony is here to stay."
