Bayern's Rummenigge: No new signings for Club World Cup

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge leaves the premiere of the prime video documentary "Thomas Mueller - Einer wie keiner" about the FC Bayern star in the Astor Filmlounge at the ARRI cinema in Munich. Bayern Munich will not buy any new players for June's Club World Cup, board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on Wednesday Felix Hörhager/dpa Bayern Munich will not buy any new players for June's Club World Cup, board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on Wednesday. The expended competition begins on June 14 in the United States and FIFA has tweaked the transfer window rules to allow new players to be brought in for the event. But Bayern will instead wait until after the tournament to register any new signings. Advertisement "Bayern Munich will not buy any additional players for the Club World Cup," the former Bayern chief executive told Sport Bild. The revamped month-long tournament will take place every four years and will now boast 32 teams rather than seven. Bayern, who effectively qualified by virtue of winning the Champions League in 2020, are to receive an entry fee of over 25 million ($28.3 million). The money and subsequent bonuses will come in handy but Rummenigge said replacing the old national team Confederations Cup with an expanded Club World Cup puts Bayern on a whole new stage. "Now our national team players will instead be playing in the US in a Bayern Munich jersey - and we are being properly rewarded for it. The format change takes the tournament to a whole new level," he said. "The money has also played a role, we don't need to make a big deal about that, but what is much more important is that we have a change in format. The Bundesliga is the basis for qualifying for the Champions League, which is the cherry on the top and gains in sporting importance, because it qualifies you for the Club World Cup."

(Daniel Loeb/dpa via AP) MUNICH (AP) — Bayern Munich celebrated its men's and women's teams' Bundesliga success with a visit to Munich town hall on Sunday, when the players dressed in traditional Bavarian leather trousers or dirndl dresses. Thomas Müller bid adieu to Bayern's supporters from the town hall balcony, thanking them 'for all the wonderful years' after winning 13 Bundesliga titles in 25 years at the club. Advertisement The 35-year-old Müller, who joined Bayern as a 10-year-old, is leaving at the end of the season and had already taken his leave during the team's title celebrations. Bayern's men's team clinched the Bundesliga with two rounds to spare, while its women's team claimed a Bundesliga and German Cup double. The men's team will be content with 'just' a league title after Bayer Leverkusen ended its 11-year reign as champion the year before, and club powerbroker Uli Hoeneß took a swipe at some of the critics after failing in the Champions League and German Cup. 'I've always said that the German championship title is the most truthful one, and we won it by an incredible margin. Leverkusen 13 points (behind Bayern), Dortmund 25 points. If someone had told me that before the season, I would have called them crazy. We've rarely won the championship so convincingly,' Hoeneß said. Müller says goodbye to Bundesliga as Kane finishes top scorer again

Munich's Thomas Mueller reacts after the German Bundesliga soccer match between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich at PreZero Arena. Tom Weller/dpa Departing Bayern Munich forward Thomas Müller said farewell to the Bundesliga with a victory but gave no clues as to his next destination. He started Saturday's 4-0 win at Hoffenheim in the final Bundesliga game of the campaign. Advertisement The 35-year-old recently wrapped up a record-extending 13th Bundesliga title but will not stay in the German top flight out of respect for his so far only club Bayern. "People have been bidding me farewell for six weeks," he joked to Sky about the time since his exit announcement. "It was a lot of fun. The time was crazy. The Bundesliga has always been my league, to play so many games is obviously nice. "I wanted to score but only to win the game, not as a farewell goal. Football is about winning." Müller made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern way back in 2008 and has made 503 league appearances. He might still turn out for Bayern at the Club World Cup from mid-June but is then widely expected to go to the MLS, also in the United States. Advertisement "I know what I'm doing tomorrow and the day after. Afterwards it is only in the stars. I will take my time. There is a bit of a pause before the next game in the middle of June," he said. "I like it when people think out of the box and make me an offer. The whole package has to work out." Harry Kane finished the season as Bundesliga top scorer for the second straight campaign with 26 goals. He said winning the title made the honour much sweeter. "It is what I have been waiting for. It is a special feeling," he said after netting off the bench at Hoffenheim. "It was nice to finish with another goal." Shell Starship 3.0 To Drive New Era of Energy-Efficient Transport in Racing

INDYCAR First Natural Gas-Powered Class 8 Truck To Join INDYCAR Fleet; New Emissions Tracking Technology from NTT DATA Announced The NTT INDYCAR SERIES and Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) continue accelerating toward a cleaner future with new initiatives unveiled May 15 at the iconic racing venue. As part of their broader push toward a zero-waste event and reduced operational emissions, INDYCAR and IMS announced the addition of Shell's Starship 3.0 – a groundbreaking, natural gas-powered transporter – to the series' fleet after the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. Shell Starship 3.0 will serve as the new transporter for INDYCAR's Pennzoil Tech Inspection Trailer for the remainder of the 2025 season. Its debut marks a major milestone in Penske Entertainment's long-term sustainability strategy, which includes investments in onsite recycling infrastructure for glass and polystyrene diversion programs at IMS and a recently launched emissions tracking platform for INDYCAR, in partnership with NTT DATA. A Starship Built for the Road Ahead Shell Starship 3.0 is powered by a Cummins X15N™ natural gas engine – making it the first natural gas-powered Class 8 truck operating within a national motorsports fleet in North America. It will haul INDYCAR's Pennzoil Tech Inspection Trailer starting with the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear on June 1. With a lightweight, carbon fiber body, advanced aerodynamic design, a mirror-replacement camera system and Shell Rotella natural gas engine oil, the Shell Starship is designed to demonstrate what's possible when cutting-edge commercial freight technology meets environmental responsibility. 'Integrating Shell Starship into INDYCAR's operations is an exciting next step in demonstrating how cutting-edge technologies can support real-world logistics while helping reduce carbon emissions,' said Thomas Mueller, general manager of Commercial Road Transport at Shell. 'This is innovation in motion, and we look forward to seeing how the Starship performs in a practical application in demanding environments.' Shell Starship is the result of a multiyear innovation and testing program developed in collaboration with the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE), which has independently verified the truck's results since its inception in 2018. Natural gas-powered engines, like the Cummins X15N, emit less CO₂ than traditional diesel counterparts and can run on renewable natural gas (RNG), a fuel derived from organic waste that's interchangeable with CNG and LNG. In some applications, RNG can even deliver a negative carbon intensity score compared to fossil fuels on a life cycle basis, depending on feedstocks[1],making it a powerful tool for decarbonizing transport. Data-Powered Progress: Emissions Tracking Software from NTT DATA Also announced today was new emissions tracking software from NTT DATA, the Official Technology Partner of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Developed in partnership with Penske, this AI-powered emissions management platform will provide INDYCAR and its partners with data-driven insights into the carbon footprint of race operations and logistics throughout the season. The cutting-edge system streamlines carbon accounting – the process of calculating greenhouse gas emissions – by collecting, standardizing and transforming diverse activity data into real-time dashboards and custom reports, offering actionable insights into the size, composition and overall health of emissions data. 'As a global leader in digital business and technology services, NTT DATA is proud to support INDYCAR and its partner in their sustainability journey,' said David Costa, chief sustainability, business officer, NTT DATA, Inc. 'Our software platform is empowering INDYCAR with comprehensive emissions tracking and reporting capabilities, seamlessly integrating data from operational activities and vendor partnerships. By streamlining the data collection process, we're enabling INDYCAR to make informed, data-driven decisions that contribute to a reduced environmental footprint.' Shell is among the early adopters of this software, which will be rolled out more broadly in the coming weeks as part of INDYCAR's commitment to transparency and environmental innovation. This collaboration has laid a strong foundation for joint sustainability efforts, helping to drive Penske's long-term environmental targets forward and enabling its application across multiple sports platforms. Together, these announcements underscore the powerful alliance between Shell, NTT DATA, and INDYCAR to drive a more sustainable future for racing – on and off the track. Bayern's Müller considering MLS move but nothing decided yet

Munich's Thomas Mueller celebrates holding the championship trophy after the German Bundesliga soccer match between FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Moenchengladblach at Allianz Arena. Sven Hoppe/dpa Thomas Müller is weighing his options for life after Bayern Munich, including a move to Major League Soccer (MLS), but he is yet to make a decision on his future. Müller, 35, will have his final Bundesliga match on Saturday when champions Bayern visit Hoffenheim, and then the June 14-July 13 Club World Cup in the United States before his time at Bayern comes to an end after 25 years. Advertisement What happens then is not decided yet, as he told Sky TV: "I don't know yet. There is nothing concrete but of course I have ideas. We will keep it exciting." The 2014 World Cup winner would not rule out joining an MLS club, and Müller said he will use the Club World Cup to get a few more ideas. "I think the next few weeks will decide it. We still have the Club World Cup ahead of us, which will be an exciting experience. Of course, I'm also keeping my ears open in the USA," he said. Müller said he had no full strategy concerning his future because "I've never been the type to say: That's my only idea now and that's what we're going to do. Advertisement "There is not this one wish and dream," he said, adding he would try and find out what he is missing. Müller will leave Bayern after the club did not renew his contract. He played his 750th match for them last weekend against Borussia Mönchengladbach and was officially bid farewell in front of the home fans. The forward won more than 30 trophies with Bayern, including a record 13 Bundesliga titles, and trebles in 2013 and 2020.
