In leather and dirndls, Bayern Munich toasts its men's and women's teams for Bundesliga double

Associated Press MUNICH (AP) — Bayern Munich celebrated its men's and women's teams' Bundesliga success with a visit to Munich town hall on Sunday, when the players dressed in traditional Bavarian leather trousers or dirndl dresses. Thomas Muller bid adieu to Bayern's supporters from the town hall balcony, thanking them 'for all the wonderful years' after winning 13 Bundesliga titles in 25 years at the club. The 35-year-old Müller, who joined Bayern as a 10-year-old, is leaving at the end of the season and had already taken his leave during the team's title celebrations. Bayern's men's team clinched the Bundesliga with two rounds to spare, while its women's team claimed a Bundesliga and German Cup double. The men's team will be content with 'just' a league title after Bayer Leverkusen ended its 11-year reign as champion the year before, and club powerbroker Uli Hoeneß took a swipe at some of the critics after failing in the Champions League and German Cup. 'I've always said that the German championship title is the most truthful one, and we won it by an incredible margin. Leverkusen 13 points (behind Bayern), Dortmund 25 points. If someone had told me that before the season, I would have called them crazy. We've rarely won the championship so convincingly,' Hoeneß said. Bayern's men next turn their attention to FIFA's Club World Cup next month, while many of the women's team players will be competing with their respective countries at the Women's European Championship in Switzerland from July 2. ___ AP soccer: in this topic

Muller says farewell as Bayern Munich win on final day of Bundesliga

Berlin, May 18 (UNI) Newly crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich finished the season with a 4-0 away win over Hoffenheim as Thomas Muller made his final appearance for the club. The 35-year-old - who has won 13 Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues in Bavaria - will leave the club he has spent his entire senior career with when his contract expires this summer. Muller made his 503rd Bundesliga appearance to go 12th in the league's all-time appearance list, though he couldn't add to his 248 club goals before being replaced by Harry Kane after an hour on Saturday. Michael Olise opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a curling free-kick over the the wall that sneaked inside the post, the BBC reported. Hoffenheim striker Andrej Kramaric has scored eight goals against Bayern during his career - more than any current Bundesliga player - but the Croatian missed a clear chance in a one-on-one with Manuel Neuer early in the second half. Shortly afterwards Joshua Kimmich doubled Bayern's advantage when his close-range strike deflected past Oliver Baumann, before Serge Gnabry added a third with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area and Kane scored his 26th league goal of the season. Kane's former Tottenham team-mate Eric Dier made his final appearance for Bayern before a free transfer to Monaco this summer. Leroy Sane came on as a late substitute amid speculation he could also leave the club this summer. Champions Bayern finish the campaign 13 points clear of closest challengers Bayer Leverkusen, while Hoffenheim avoided dropping into the relegation play-off spot thanks to Heidenheim's defeat by Werder Bremen. Bayern bids farewell to Muller in style with emphatic win at Hoffenheim

Berlin, May 18 (UNI) Bayern Munich ended their Bundesliga campaign on a high with a convincing 4-0 victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday, in which club legend Thomas Muller made his final league appearance for the club. Muller was the center of attention, having been given a starting role by coach Vincent Kompany in his 503rd and final Bundesliga match. Despite the emotional nature of the occasion, Bayern was all business from the outset, dominating possession away from home. Hoffenheim, needing a point to ensure safety, sat deep and frustrated the champion early on. It took a moment of magic to break the deadlock. In the 33rd minute, Michael Olise stepped up to take a free kick and curled a brilliant shot into the bottom corner of the net. Bayern led 1-0 at halftime, though clear chances remained rare. Shortly after the restart, Joshua Kimmich doubled the lead with a deflected strike following some clever build-up play. The game's emotional highlight came in the 61st minute when Muller was substituted for Harry Kane and received a standing ovation from both sets of fans. This change injected fresh energy into Bayern's attack. Serge Gnabry made it 3-0 in the 80th minute, before Kane capped off the afternoon with a goal of his own six minutes later. Despite the heavy defeat, Hoffenheim was able to celebrate avoiding relegation thanks to results elsewhere. Kompany's side will now turn its attention to the upcoming Club World Cup. Elsewhere, Mainz secured sixth place and a Europa Conference League spot with a 2-2 draw with runner-up Bayer Leverkusen, who set a new record of 34 away games unbeaten. Eintracht Frankfurt sealed third place and a Champions League berth with a 3-1 win over Freiburg. Borussia Dortmund finished fourth after extending its unbeaten run to eight games. Heidenheim fell 4-1 to Bremen and must now face the relegation play-off. Union Berlin grabbed a dramatic 2-1 win over Augsburg, while Wolfsburg edged Gladbach 1-0. Relegated Bochum ended its season on a high, beating St. Pauli 2-0. UNI XINHUA AKT SSP

Muller says goodbye to Bundesliga as Kane finishes top scorer again

dpa Sinsheim, Germany Departing Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller said farewell to the Bundesliga with a victory but gave no clues as to his next destination. He started Saturday's 4-0 win at Hoffenheim in the final Bundesliga game of the campaign. The 35-year-old recently wrapped up a record-extending 13th Bundesliga title but will not stay in the German top flight out of respect for his so far only club Bayern. 'People have been bidding me farewell for six weeks,' he joked to Sky about the time since his exit announcement. 'It was a lot of fun. The time was crazy. The Bundesliga has always been my league, to play so many games is obviously nice. 'I wanted to score but only to win the game, not as a farewell goal. Football is about winning.' Müller made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern way back in 2008 and has made 503 league appearances. He might still turn out for Bayern at the Club World Cup from mid-June but is then widely expected to go to the MLS, also in the United States. 'I know what I'm doing tomorrow and the day after. Afterwards it is only in the stars. I will take my time. There is a bit of a pause before the next game in the middle of June,' he said. 'I like it when people think out of the box and make me an offer. The whole package has to work out.' Harry Kane finished the season as Bundesliga top scorer for the second straight campaign with 26 goals. He said winning the title made the honour much sweeter. 'It is what I have been waiting for. It is a special feeling,' he said after netting off the bench at Hoffenheim. 'It was nice to finish with another goal.'
