Advertising expert lifts lid on McDonald's nugget claim

A viral video has sparked a fresh wave of scrutiny over the way fast food giants like McDonald's market their menu items, with one advertising expert revealing a subtle yet powerful tactic that could change the way you look at nuggets forever. In the TikTok, viewed nearly half a million times, marketing professional, Luke, lifts the lid on some of the language used in McDonald's advertising. Advertisement 'A long time ago I was working on a project with McDonald's and I learned something that now I can never unsee,' he says. 'It says right there made with 100 percent beef,' he continues, pointing to the packet of jerky he's eating, 'which is such a funny twist of words because it's made with 100 percent beef, not made of 100 percent beef.' 'With the McDonald's thing, it was that their chicken nuggets are made with 100 percent chicken. You know there's a lot of other stuff in there, and some of it might not be 100 percent chicken, but it's made with 100 percent chicken.' 'You'll see it everywhere now. Subtle marketing trick,' he adds. Advertisement 'Still tastes good.' 3 A video going viral on TikTok has sparked some scrutiny on how fast food corporations such as McDonald's market their menu items. AP The video quickly amassed hundreds of comments, with many expressing their shock over the revelation. 'Thank you for your public service,' one person wrote. Advertisement 'I'm so tired of sleazy food company marketing,' someone else admitted. 'Once you work in marketing, your eyes are opened too much,' another replied. While Luke is American, the marketing approach isn't unique to the US, and a check of the Australian McDonald's website reveals a similar story. 3 Luke, a marketing professional, revealed in the video with McDonald's chicken nuggets, 'You know there's a lot of other stuff in there, and some of it might not be 100 percent chicken, but it's made with 100 percent chicken.' @lukegreatguy/TiKTok Advertisement Here, Chicken McNuggets are advertised as 'made with tender juicy 100 percent Aussie chicken breast.' But a look at the ingredient list shows it's not that simple. Chicken is indeed the first ingredient, but it's followed by water, flour (wheat, corn), canola oil, thickeners, starches, salt, mineral salts, spices, sunflower oil, and dextrose, among others. In other words, while the nuggets are made with 100 percent chicken breast, they are not made of only chicken breast. In response to this, McDonald's Australia shared a statement to saying that they're 'not in the business of misleading our customers.' 3 The Australian McDonald's website reveals that the chicken nuggets are made with 100 percent chicken breast, but that chicken breast isn't the only ingredient when it comes to making their nuggets. Christopher Sadowski 'When we say our famous Chicken McNuggets are made with 100 percent Aussie RSPCA-Approved breast chicken, we mean it,' the statement read. 'The additional ingredients listed in our nutrition and allergen fact sheet go into the delicious marinade and coating.' Advertisement 'Being transparent about this is important, so that our customers can make informed decisions about their menu choices.' Under Australian law, businesses may be breaking the law if they engage in misleading or deceptive conduct, according to the ACCC and the AANA Food and Beverages Advertising Code. It makes no difference whether a business intends to mislead or not, but rather how the average consumer perceives the claim. is not suggesting McDonald's is misleading customers, but the video definitely highlights how carefully crafted language can be used in advertising to shape our understanding of what's really in our food.

And the makeup artist, from Glasgow, enjoys a good rummage around the bargain high street store in particular. She previously said: "There's nothing I love more than walking about Primark for hours and looking through every single rail and finding goodies." But in a recent video she admitted it's been a "hot minute" since she's done a haul, which led to her walking out with three full bags. First up, Carla snapped up two £1 belts - in brown and black - which she hailed as "very good and handy", and a rugby shirt which she cut for a more cropped look. The brunette beauty also topped up her summer holiday wardrobe with some bargain buys. Carla, who you may recognise from BBC reality show The Agency: Unfiltered, said: "I'm going away in a couple weeks, I can't wait. "I want to just have staple holiday wardrobe. I don't like to have crazy things anymore. I buy things that I'm going to use multiple times." She picked up a monochromed stripe shorts co-ord, a £12 bandeau leopard print playsuit, white linen shorts for £10, a white bikini and a cream lace shirt which she says is "giving Zara vibes". And she revealed that she tops up on one lightweight item every summer without fail. Shoppers are racing to Primark to get their hands on a dress that will 'solve problems' this summer - it's only £14 and 'perfect for holiday' "I get these trousers every year when I go to Primark around holiday time because they're so easy to shove on", she said. "Just little linen [trouser]. They're the lightest thing ever, the lightest material ever. £12, size large." But it's an £8 buy that Carla was most excited about thanks to its genius feature. She said: "I bought these little built-in bra tops I swear by. I can't get enough of these. It's genius. "It's literally got a built-in bra inside because I hate wearing bras. "I don't know about anyone else but I'm a weirdo. I hate wearing underwear, underwear riles me up. "I don't wear it, absolutely despise wearing underwear so it's built in. Easy days." If this has inspired you to dash to your nearest Primark, you may also want to keep an eye out for the dress version of the built-in bra tops. The racerback design makes it a versatile two-in-one dress – perfect for a casual day out when paired with trainers or sandals, or ideal for a lunch outing when styled with heels or wedges, and it's only £14. Talking about the dress, which comes in four different designs, Primark suggested: 'Layer with an oversized denim jacket and trainers for a relaxed daytime look. "Or dress it up with heeled sandals and statement earrings for evening plans.' 6 Carla also bagged an on-trend rugby top Credit: TiKTok @carlakentx 6 Carla also picks up the same linen trousers every year Credit: TiKTok @carlakentx 6 She hailed this lace shirt as a Zara dupe Credit: TiKTok @carlakentx The video, which has already gained 1.5 million views on TikTok after just one day, was captioned: 'Summer sorted.' It has also received 35,000 likes, with 175 people rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts. One wrote: 'My problems are solved.' A second added: 'For summer these will be amazing! 'Who wants to wear a bra under a dress – sensory and sweaty overload.' And a third simply said: 'Okay, I'll go to Primark later.'

This Viral 'Group Chat' Skit About A Boyfriend Invited To A Girls Dinner Has Fascinated Millions

What happens when you eschew the politics of female friendship and invite a boyfriend to a girls dinner? Millions found out in the viral TiKTok series, " Group Chat." The saga starts when a group chat member enters her roommate's room and urges her to read the latest text in the chat. All characters (except for one, but more on that later) are portrayed by the creator, Sydney Robinson. Their friend Haley had just sent a message asking if her boyfriend Justin could join their girls dinner. He had "such a rough day," and she didn't want to leave him alone. To no one's surprise, the girls didn't want Justin at their dinner and were not happy with the request. An exchange of polite-seeming, but really passive-aggressive charged texts are exchanged between Haley and another friend Jessica in the group chat. The drama escalates with mysterious reservation changes and more friends weighing in on the ethics of Justin joining their dinner. But through the power of numbers, Justin is barred from dinner once and for all! Haley then dramatically leaves the group chat. Eventually, Haley rejoins the chat and apologizes, and through her suggestion, the group finds a new restaurant. But the drama is far from over because at the new restaurant — guess who's there? That's right, Justin. But with another girl! It turns out, Haley and Justin's relationship might be a tad bit more complicated than we all thought. The season finale ends with the assumption that Haley might actually be the other woman in Justin's life and that this whole dinner fiasco was an attempt to catch Justin in the act or to threaten him. Very messy, but a saga, for reals. On the immense viral buzz, Sydney told Today, 'I've been gaining around 100,000 [followers] every day, steady.' Sydney had about 260,000 followers at the start of the "Group Chat" Series, and not even a week later she'd hit 1 million. The series was written a year ago inspired by none other than the chaotic reality TV gold that is Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. Specifically, the moment when Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino gets out of jail and hits up the cast's group chat. 'It revives the entire group. Everyone's like, waking up, looking at it, and just the very idea of his name popping up on their home screen sent shock waves through the house," Sydney said. 'I was like, 'That. That feeling.'' While the inception of the series was Jersey Shore, what resonated with fans was how relatable the portrayal was of female friendship dynamics, especially in a big group. 'It's so funny the ways in which being a woman is such a universal experience,' she explained. 'And I think having a really close group of girlfriends with very different personalities that are bound to clash, but it doesn't always mean the end of a friendship.' And as for that Justin? In a series full of twists and turns, we can't forget the real life twist that came in the form of singer-songwriter, Charlie Puth, who had supported the series from early on. He ended up voicing a "secret" cameo as none other than Justin. Tommaso Boddi / Getty Images Sydney had woken up from a nap with a flurry of missed calls from her mom. "She's calling me like 100 times, and she's like, 'Charlie Puth commented on your video,'" she recalled. "And I was like, 'No, shut up.'" After exchanging a few messages, Sydney asked if Charlie would voice the character of Justin, and to her surprise, he agreed. Now that Season 1 has wrapped, the question remains: will the series end just as quickly as it began? Fans can fret not. Sydney revealed she's already working on a second season. 'Just because the dinner segment has ended, doesn't mean the group chat is done," she shared. Today / Via "Season 2, you can expect anything you can expect from a real friend group, any of the normal drama," Sydney said. Future storylines are planned for situations like "The Bachelorette" and "The Birthday," plus a dive into the other characters. Today / Via "We are keeping the same characters, but we're going to change the scenario. And it might not always be [Haley] because everyone has their annoying qualities," said Sydney. And with the success of the series, when asked if Sydney had other dream cameos in mind, she shared, " Pedro Pascal from The Last of Us." And then, perhaps, an addition to the friend group. "Alex Cooper from Call Her Daddy," Sydney added, could be fun as a cameo as one of the girlfriends in the group chat. Were you locked into the saga? If not, you can catch the first installment of the series here.

Oracle Weighs Security Backstop, Small Stake to Land TikTok Deal

Oracle Corp. is weighing a proposal for a sale of TiKTok's US operations that would have it provide security assurances and take a small stake in a new American entity while potentially leaving the app's influential algorithm in Chinese hands, according to people familiar with the matter. A proposal was circulated within the Trump administration last week that would have Oracle work with US buyers to vouch for the safety of users' data, according to the people, who discussed the plan on condition of anonymity citing its confidentiality. That would include guarantees that an updated US version of TikTok would not contain a back door that China's government could exploit, they said.
