Is the Tata Harrier.ev Empowered QWD 75 the benchmark for Indian EV SUVs?

Tata Electric has been steadily evolving from the humble beginnings of the Tigor EV and Nexon EV to what now feels like a bold, confident leap into global territory. The all-new Tata Empowered QWD 75 is not just an electric SUV; it is a clear declaration that Indian automakers can now deliver a product that feels world-class, both in design and driving dynamics. This is Tata's most powerful, most feature-loaded, and most expensive SUV yet. But what stands out even more is how cohesive and complete the feels. Unlike earlier EV attempts that felt like conversions of ICE platforms, this one feels purpose-built, polished, and performance-focused. In fact, in many ways, it drives better than its ICE sibling — smoother, quicker off the line, and with a more planted, composed ride across terrain types. From the outside, the retains the familiar muscular profile of the ICE Harrier, with subtle but significant EV design cues — like the closed-off grille, full-width LED DRLs, aero-optimised 19-inch alloys, and elegant sequential indicators. It has road presence; but more importantly, it has identity. This is not a 'converted EV.' It is a confident electric SUV designed to hold its own. Performance is a key talking point. The dual-motor setup churns out 504 Nm of torque and gets you from 0–100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds — numbers you would usually associate with performance-oriented crossovers from international stables. But what makes the stand out is the way it delivers that power: clean, linear, and composed. With a multi-link rear suspension and frequency-selective damping, it adapts well to Indian roads while retaining on-road confidence. Whether you are in City, Sport, Eco, or tackling trails with Rock, Mud, or Snow modes — the never feels out of its depth. Tata also deserves credit for delivering a real-world EV experience that does not hinge on ideal conditions. The 75 kWh battery, with its claimed range of 622 km, delivers a usable 460–490 km in mixed conditions — which is impressive. Fast charging at 120 kW gives you 250 kms in just 15 minutes, making long-distance EV travel genuinely viable. Inside, the sets a new standard for Indian SUVs. The cabin is plush, modern, and tech-forward, with standout features like a massive 14.5-inch Neo QLED infotainment display, a 10.25-inch digital driver's cluster, and a 10-speaker JBL system with Dolby Atmos that sounds as good as it reads. There is also a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated seats with memory, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, and even a frunk — all of which make the cabin feel premium in every sense of the word. Safety and driver assistance tech is comprehensive. With Level 2 ADAS that includes 22 active features — from adaptive cruise to rear cross-traffic alert — and conveniences like a 360-degree camera, summon mode, and auto park assist, Tata has packed the with tech you would typically associate with vehicles in the ₹50 lakh+ bracket. The rear seats have not been ignored either. Boss Mode lets you stretch out chauffeur-style, there is thoughtful storage, charging points, sunshades, and rear AC — everything a family SUV needs to cover long distances in comfort. It is not all perfect. While overall quality has taken a big leap, some of the interior plastics still leave room for improvement. The smart key and summon feature, while ambitious, is not as refined in real-world use as it should be. But these are minor quibbles in a package that otherwise punches far above its price bracket. The Tata Empowered QWD 75 represents a turning point. This is not just the best electric vehicle Tata has made — it is the most international-feeling SUV from an Indian brand yet. It is quick, refined, packed with features, and ready for the future. For once, you are not buying an EV with compromises. You are buying one that sets a new benchmark. Tata Motors eyes ₹6,500 cr boost from PLI scheme as EV line‑up expands

Tata Motors plans to secure about ₹6,500 crore in incentives from the Government's production‑linked incentive (PLI) scheme for electric vehicles over the next three years, company executives have told The Financial Express . The country's largest maker of electric passenger and commercial vehicles expects roughly ₹4,000 crore to come from its passenger‑vehicle (PV) range and a further ₹2,500 crore from its commercial‑vehicle (CV) portfolio. Tata Motors has already received ₹385 crore in PLI benefits for FY25 – ₹250 crore for PVs and ₹135 crore for CVs – up from ₹142 crore a year earlier. A company spokesperson said the firm intends to 'avail the full benefits' available until FY28. Tata Motors PLI-certified PV models At present, three PLI‑certified PV models – the Tiago EV, Tigor EV and Punch EV – are earning incentives of roughly ₹40 crore a month. With the recent certification of a forty‑five‑kilowatt‑hour Nexon EV variant and forthcoming approvals for the Harrier EV, Curvv EV and Sierra EV, Tata Motors expects monthly inflows to climb, taking total PV incentives to around ₹700 crore by the end of FY26 and up to ₹2,000 crore annually thereafter. Tata Motors PLI-certified CV models In the CV division, led by executive director Girish Wagh, three electrified Ace mini‑truck variants and two each of the Starbus and Ultra electric buses already qualify for PLI support. The incentives lifted CV earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation margins by twenty basis points in FY25, while PV margins improved by seventy basis points. Despite its early lead, Tata Motors' share of India's passenger‑EV market fell to 35 per cent in May 2025 from 81 per cent in FY23. Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, told investors the firm aims to regain 'about 50 per cent share in the mid to long term' through its expanded electric portfolio and PLI‑driven cost advantages.

Tata Motors to invest up to ₹35,000 crore in PV business in 5 years; focus on new models and cleaner powertrain tech

Tata Motors is working on a plan to launch a wide range of new cars across different powertrain segments over the next five years. Check Offers Tata Motors is planning to invest up to ₹ 35,000 crore in its passenger vehicle business. The homegrown automobile giant has stated during its investor day presentation on Monday that it plans to invest the amount in the development of electric vehicles as well as new models, which are expected to be launched in the market over the course of the next five years. With this huge investment strategy, the carmaker aims to cement its position as the country's top electric passenger vehicle manufacturer amid the rising competition and greater push to adopt cleaner cars. Tata Motors currently holds the lion's share in the Indian electric passenger vehicle market with its models like the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV, as well as the newly launched Harrier EV. Besides that, the automaker sells some of the popular SUVs as well, which have been propelling growth for the brand amid the rapidly surging demand for utility vehicles in India. These SUVs include Nexon, Punch, Harrier, Safari, etc. The company is planning to bring the Sierra to the Indian market too, in its EV form as well as ICE guise. Also Read : Upcoming cars in India Reuters has reported that in its investor day presentation, Tata Motors has revealed the plan to nearly double the company's PV product portfolio from eight models to 15. This target will be achieved through launching more electric vehicles and CNG cars. Besides that, there will be technology feature enhancements for the existing vehicles, claims the report. Despite revealing the plan of investment for the next five years, Tata Motors did not share its investment plan for the current financial year, which will end in March 2026. The move from Tata Motors comes at a time when India, the world's third-largest passenger vehicle market, is planning to enforce stricter emission norms starting from 2027. Also, the Indian government wants electric vehicles to form 30 per cent of all car sales in the country by 2030. Intense competition in the combustion engine market has allowed rival Mahindra to overtake Tata. MG Motor has also challenged Tata's EV dominance with the Windsor model, outselling its products since late last year. However, despite that, Tata Motors maintained its target of 16 per cent market share by March 2027, aiming to reach 18-20 per cent by March 2030. Tata Harrier EV to launch tomorrow. Everything you must know

Tata Motors is gearing up to launch its next big electric car, the Harrier EV. The Tata Harrier EV will join the lineup of other models from the brand that already have electric cars, such as Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Curvv EV. Tata Motors, with its wide range of electric passenger vehicles, currently holds the lion's share in the Indian EV market. However, it has witnessed a slump in the market share with rising competition. With the upcoming Harrier EV, the car manufacturer is aiming to ramp up that market share. Tata Motors has stated that it aims to regain its lost market share in the Indian electric car market. The upcoming Harrier EV is going to be a key product in that strategy. Besides that, Tata Motors is also working on the Sierra EV, which will follow the Harrier EV. Tata Harrier EV was showcased in its production-ready guise at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025. The electric SUV comes with a design that is similar to the Harrier ICE model. However, being an electric car, it has certain design elements that are EV-specific. The front profile comes with a closed panel. The wheels will get aero alloys. Side profile of the car will have aerodynamic elements, including a clean look, flush-fitting door handles. Inside, the cabin retains a familiar layout but is enhanced with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a JBL audio system, and EV-specific features like summon mode, vehicle-to-load (V2L), and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging. Safety is addressed with seven airbags, 360-degree cameras, and Level-2 ADAS capabilities. Powertrain details of the Tata Harrier EV remain under wraps for now, but Tata has confirmed a dual-motor AWD setup targeting a 500 km range. The Harrier EV will serve as Tata's flagship electric offering, positioned at an estimated starting price of ₹ 25 lakh.
