Jully urges CM to initiate Udaan scheme

Jaipur: Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully wrote a letter to chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma urging immediate initiation of Udaan scheme which was started by the previous Congress govt for the health and safety of crores of women in the state. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Expressing concern, Jully said the state, despite having a female minister for both finance and women and child development (Diya Kumari), has shelved the Udaan scheme. "The scheme is directly related to women's health. For the past nine months, sanitary napkins were not purchased for distribution to women, causing distress to crores of mothers, sisters, and daughters who may be unable to express their pain due to hesitation. This is a very serious and sensitive issue." Jully mentioned that according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4) 2015-16, only 47.9% of women in Rajasthan were aware of menstrual hygiene and used sanitary pads. "More than half of the women were unable to use sanitary napkins due to a lack of awareness and resources, resulting in health issues and serious diseases like cancer. In response, the previous Gehlot-led Congress govt launched the Udaan scheme in 2021 for women aged 11 to 45 and schoolgirls," he wrote. "The scheme aimed to provide sanitary pads during menstruation. The women's empowerment department was designated as the nodal agency, and the demand for sanitary pads was sent to RMSCL for distribution," he added.

Vivekananda scholarship delay draws concern from LoP Jully

Jaipur: Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully has written to chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressing concern over the delay in the application process for the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence, previously known as the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence Tuesday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The scholarship funds education in foreign universities for 300 students and 200 in Indian universities as per the 2024 notification. In his letter dated May 27, he pointed out that the scholarship process for Sept 2025 has not yet begun, even though the results for Class 12 were already declared. "The academic sessions in most foreign universities begin in late Aug or early Sept, and with the application process yet to begin, it will be extremely difficult for students to hold on to their offers. Moreover, the govt will face a tight timeline to complete the selection, approval, and disbursement process by July, as students need sufficient time to apply for visas and make travel arrangements," said Jully. He emphasised that the scheme, initially launched in 2021 under the leadership of former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, was aimed at helping meritorious and underprivileged students pursue higher education in top international universities. He even demanded special consideration or reservation for students of marginalised sections, including OBCs, MBCs, SC, ST, and EWS. Shalini Choudhary, a resident of Jaipur, received admission offers from Manchester University and Birmingham University in March. With the universities' deadline to confirm admission approaching in the first week of June, she is struggling to hold her place. "I have to convince them to extend the offer," said a disappointed Choudhary. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "It's frustrating that despite qualifying, I might lose this opportunity due to administrative delays. " Echoing her frustration, Khushi Valecha, who secured an offer to pursue a master's degree from University College London (UCL), said her deadline to confirm admission is also nearing. "We worked hard to earn these offers, but now we're stuck in limbo," she said. "If the scholarship doesn't come through on time, I may have to give up my dream."

'Mafia rule in Rajasthan': Opposition slams BJP govt over man's torture in Beawar

JAIPUR: Opposition Congress members in Rajasthan have launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state govt following an incident in Beawar where a person was allegedly tortured by his employer. Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, leader of opposition Tikaram Jully and Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra have demanded an immediate investigation into what they describe as a complete breakdown of law and order under CM Bhajan Lal Sharma's administration. The incident, which occurred in the Raipur police station area of Beawar last month, involved the victim being hung upside down and tied to a JCB machine. Images of the torture that went viral on social media on Saturday have sparked widespread outrage across the state. "This is not just an isolated incident of brutality but a reflection of mafia rule in Rajasthan," said Gehlot, alleging collusion between police, administration and criminal elements. Congress members described the accused employer (a factory owner) and his accomplices as 'mafia'. Dotasra took to social media platform X to condemn the incident, stating that "mafias' tyranny is at its peak" under what he termed a "weak BJP govt." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo He called for a thorough investigation into both the incident and the alleged political protection provided to criminals. Jully raised several pointed questions about the govt's commitment to maintaining law and order, asking, "Who in power is providing protection to the mafias?" He argued that the incident has not only violated human rights but has also brought shame to the entire state.

Rights of gig workers should not remain on paper, says Jully

1 2 Jaipur: Opposition leader Tikaram Jully criticised the Bhajan Lal govt on International Labour Day's eve for neglecting gig workers' rights. He demanded immediate implementation of Rajasthan Platform-Based Gig Workers Act, 2023, which was passed during the previous Congress govt. Jully threatened to launch a public movement if the govt failed to implement the Act soon. He called for a clear timeline, budget allocation, formation of a state-level gig workers' welfare board, and guaranteed minimum wages. He also advocated extending ESI and PF schemes to gig and semi-organised workers. Describing the Act as the country's most progressive legislation for gig workers' rights, Jully expressed disappointment over the BJP govt's delay in implementation. He highlighted how gig workers, despite being called "partners", are denied basic labour rights. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The opposition leader also raised concerns about daily wage labourers' conditions in the state. He said numerous workers at construction sites, markets, factories, and brick kilns lack minimum wages, stable employment, and social security benefits. Jully proposed several measures, including special identity cards for daily wage labourers to access govt schemes, a labour registration campaign, and improved facilities for female workers. He also called for establishing a state-level labour helpline and launching a digital registration campaign for gig workers. The Congress leader emphasised that while his party's govt had taken steps to provide workers with identity, insurance, and safety measures, it was now the BJP govt's moral responsibility to implement these provisions effectively.

‘Dalits in Rajasthan remain labourers at society's base…with only 1-2% in govt jobs and 1% owning land'

After Rajasthan LoP Tikaram Jully visited a Ram temple in Alwar early this month, BJP's Gyan Dev Ahuja 'purified' it with gangajal. Amid the resulting controversy, BJP first suspended Ahuja, and finally expelled him yesterday — on the eve of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge's 'Save the Constitution' rally in Jaipur.
