IPL Flashback: Surya Kumar Yadav's Prank On Tilak Varma Is Still Fresh As A Lemon

Last Updated: It took some seconds for Tilak to realise the sour taste as he woke up in shock, leaving Surya in stitches. After Mumbai Indians progressed to the second qualifier of IPL 2025, an old video featuring Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav has resurfaced online. It dates back to 2023, when Surya, a senior member of the Mumbai unit, pulled a hilarious prank on Tilak on a mid-air flight. The team was supposedly travelling from one city to another for an IPL match. Tilak, visibly tired, was taking a nap while sitting on a window seat, and Surya took it as an opportunity. The Indian T20I captain took a piece of lemon from a flight attendant and squeezed it inside Tilak's open mouth. It took some seconds for the youngster to realise the sour taste as he woke up in shock and asked, 'Kya ho gaya? Kya hai isme?" (What happened? What's in there?) Surya certainly enjoyed his teammate's startled reaction. He was spotted laughing at Tilak after playing the successful prank. Other members of the Mumbai unit were also left in splits. The video, initially posted by the Mumbai Indians during IPL 2023, has been reshared by a fan with the title– 'Surya bhai squeezes lemon into Tilak's mouth when Tilak bhai is sleeping peacefully." The clip was once again hit on social media, attracting reactions from many cricket fans. The comment section was soon filled with laughing emojis after the post was dropped on Instagram. Referring to Surya and Tilak's camaraderie, one fan said, 'Love this duo." Another suggested that Surya should try the same lemon prank on former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma. 'Surya bhai tried his 'supla shot' here," quipped a viewer. Speaking about their ongoing campaign, the Mumbai Indians remain just a few steps away from their sixth IPL title. Following a resounding performance in the second half of the league stage, MI sealed their berth in the Eliminator. Mumbai met Gujarat Titans in the knockout clash in Mullanpur on Friday, and dominated the proceedings. Rohit Sharma chipped in with an 81-run knock while Johny Bairstow struck a blistering 47 as MI set a huge target of 229 runs. Gujarat were also able to breach the 200-run mark, but ended up falling 20 runs short of the required total. Mumbai Indians will face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025 on Sunday, June 1, in Ahmedabad. First Published:

Wesak celebration draws 30,000 devotees to 130-year-old Brickfields temple

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 30,000 devotees and visitors, including tourists, gathered at the Buddhist Maha Vihara Temple in Brickfields today in a grand Wesak Day celebration that also marked the temple's 130th anniversary. This year's celebration stood out not just for its scale, but also for a renewed focus on charitable initiatives, including an organ donation drive under the Silent Mentor programme, in addition to the annual blood donation campaign. Buddhist Maha Vihara honorary secretary Tilak Leslie said the Silent Mentor programme allowed individuals to donate their bodies after death for medical research and education, in collaboration with universities, teaching hospitals and medical experts. "As of now, we have 30 pledged deceased donors whose bodies are preserved for educational purposes," he said, adding that the registration process was simple and open to all. Founded in 1894 by the Sasana Abhiwurdhi Wardhana Society, the Maha Vihara Temple held its first Wesak Day celebration in 1895, following the arrival of two Sri Lankan monks. Wesak Day, observed on the full moon in May, commemorates the birth, enlightenment and passing of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha, all of which were believed to have occurred on the same lunar date. "This is the most sacred day for Buddhists," Tilak said. "It commemorates the three most significant milestones in the Buddha's life, and we honour it with spiritual observances and acts of compassion." This morning's celebrations began with the raising of the Buddhist flag at 8am by Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Malaysia M.I. Mohamed Rizvi and chief high priest Datuk K. Sri Dhammaratana, followed by prayers, singing of hymns, the lighting of lotus oil lamps and the burning of incense. Devotees then queued to receive blessings, holy water and a sacred yellow string from monks. One of the key highlights of the evening was the Wesak float procession that began at 6.30pm, which would cover a 12km route through the heart of Kuala Lumpur, before returning to the temple around 10.30pm. Between 20 to 25 elaborately decorated floats, depicting the life and teachings of the Buddha, would be taking part in the parade. In a notable show of interfaith unity, the Church of Our Lady of Fatima nearby contributed to the celebration by offering food to the monks and distributing meals to devotees. "We're deeply humbled by their generosity," Tilak said. "They've also planned to provide more food tomorrow during the lunch hour. It's a beautiful example of unity and shared compassion." When asked about the crowd, Tilak described the response as "overwhelming", with at least 30,000 people recorded by midday.

Brahmins: BJP govt is opposed to ‘tilak', targeting Brahmins: Akhilesh

Lucknow: Slamming the BJP govt for 'systematically targeting Brahmins', chief on Wednesday said the present dispensation was opposed to 'Tilak' (worn by Brahmins on their forehead). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "The Brahmin community has always played the important role of leading the society. It gives direction to society. The Brahmin community's contribution in every field is unforgettable. Samajwadi Party has always honoured and respected the Brahmin community which in turn has extended guidance to the party. Their support and cooperation will ensure our victory in 2027 assembly polls ," Akhilesh said at a conference of Brahmins organised by the party in Lucknow. Prior to addressing the conference, Akhilesh explained that the meet was called before Operation Sindoor started, suggesting that the party would have deferred the event had it been aware of the defence operation. At the conference, which was presided over by party veteran and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in UP assembly, Mata Prasad Pandey, former SP minister Pawan Pandey accused the BJP govt of extending step-motherly treatment to Brahmin community. Pawan listed out names and instances where Brahmins found themselves at the receiving end because of police high handedness and incidents of crime. SP functionary and party's Lucknow candidate in 2022 Assembly polls Puja Shukla was among a host of Brahmin leaders of the party present at the event. Citing another instance of how the BJP govt was blatantly undermining the Brahmins, Pandey cited an instance when late Mulayam Singh Yadav was the chief minister of UP. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "He had invited Brahmin intellectuals for a meeting where everyone demanded that Lord Parshuram's Jayanti (observed on April 29) should be declared as a holiday. Netaji agreed. But the present BJP govt cancelled the holiday. The SP which had coined PDA — Pichrde (Backward classes), Dalits and Alpsankhyaks (Minorities) — in the run up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls had included Brahmins too in the acronym saying that 'A' in PDA included Agrde (Upper castes). After Akhilesh won the LS election from Kannauj, he was replaced as the leader of opposition in the state assembly with party veteran Mata Prasad Pandey, a Brahmin.
