Bike-borne miscreants open fire at property dealer's house
Times News Network Ludhiana: Two unidentified men on a bike opened fire outside the house of a property dealer in Ladhowal area. The assailants fired twice and both bullets struck the trunk of a Ford Endeavour SUV parked inside the premises. No one was injured in the incident. The matter came to light when the realtor, Bhagwant Singh, noticed the bullet marks in the morning. Police said that the incident took place two days ago but the victim informed them on Saturday. Bhagwant Singh said the incident took place at around 12.35am on May 29. He added that on being informed about the gunshots by a neighbour, he went to check but did not find anything. The next morning, he noticed bullet marks on his car and informed the police. Inspector Gurshinder Kaur, SHO, Ladhowal police station, reached the site with a police team and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby houses is being reviewed. According to preliminary findings, two men on a motorcycle fired the first shot at the property dealer's gate and returned four minutes later to fire the second round before escaping. Police are examining the property dealer's call details and have enlisted a forensic team to inspect the bullet trajectory and impact on the vehicle. "While no threat has been reported by the complainant, we are not ruling out any possibility. The timing of the complaint makes the case unusual," said SHO Gurshinder Kaur. Rs 10L to Rs 18L charged for cheating in Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti exam: Cops
Times News Network Chandigarh: In the wake of the arrest of 17 individuals for cheating in the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti exam, a police probe found that the "deal" for cheating during the exam was settled for amounts ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. Investigation revealed that the accused, Rakhi, who may be mastermind of the racket, runs a private institute in Haryana and was operating from New Vijay Nagar, Jind district. Rakhi and the other accused were presented in court on Monday and were remanded in judicial custody. Now, Sector 39 police plan to obtain police remand of Rakhi for interrogation. Sources said that Rakhi allegedly came with an electronic device hidden in her clothes. Her intention was not to take the exam but to scan the JNV recruitment exam question paper using the device and pass it on to her accomplices, who were hiding near the school. When the question paper reached the accomplices waiting outside, they started providing answers to their aides inside the examination centre via Bluetooth devices. One of the accused was also found to be in possession of an electronic device. Another arrest took place at Mount Carmel School in Sector 47, where Vishal Malik (28) from Hisar was found using a hidden electronic device during the test. Ajay Kumar from Rohtak and Sonu Kumar from Hisar were caught using unauthorised electronic equipment at St Anne's Convent School, Sector 32. The most significant bust occurred at Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School in Sector 40C, where police apprehended 12 individuals, including three women, for allegedly using electronic devices to cheat. Woman elopes with father in law's cousin in Etawah
Times News Network Kanpur: In an unusual case in Etawah, a woman eloped with her father-in-law's cousin. She took her two daughters, one 3-year-old and the other 5-year-old, along with her, however left her eight-year-old son behind. The incident came to light on April 3 when her husband, who works as a driver, returned from work to find them missing. After unsuccessful attempts to locate them, he announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for information about her whereabouts. Police have initiated their investigation to find the woman. The husband expressed willingness to reconcile if she returns. Reports suggest the woman was involved with her father-in-law's cousin for some time. On April 3, the woman's husband travelled to Kanpur for some work. Upon his return in evening he found his family missing along with some jewellery. His son was at home, unaware of the circumstances. The man filed a missing person report with the police. He said that his father's cousin frequently visited their residence, raising no suspicions due to familial ties. Police officer Balram Mishra confirmed the sensitivity of the case and assured swift action. "We are conducting raids at potential locations and using mobile tracking to locate the woman and her companion," he said. The official expressed confidence in finding them soon.

Dentist seeks bail after two engineers die following hair transplant procedure
Times News Network Kanpur: A dental practitioner, facing accusations of medical negligence causing death of her two patients after hair transplant procedures performed by her, submitted an anticipatory bail application through her legal counsel. The court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday. She has been accused of the death of Vineet Dubey, assistant engineer at Panki Power House and engineer Mayank Katiyar from Farrukhabad. The doctor, who holds only dental qualification, has marketed herself as a hair transplant specialist on social media platforms sharing various aspects of the procedure through her YouTube content. Soon after the hair transplant procedure was performed on Dubey, a resident of Keshavpuram, Kalyanpur, on March 13, his health deteriorated. He was admitted to a private hospital in Sarvodaya Nagar, where he succumbed on March 15. Rawatpur police registered a case of culpable homicide on May 9 based on his wife Jaya's complaint. Mayank's procedure was preformed on Nov 18 and he died on Nov 19, sparking family protests. Police demolish ‘illegally constructed' house of jailed drug peddler
Times News Network Ludhiana: As part of the drive against drugs, Ludhiana Police and municipal corporation demolished the illegally constructed house of a drug peddler in Hari Krishna Colony, Transport Nagar. Since the house was located in a place which a bulldozer could not reach, authorities called labourers to demolish it using hammers. Authorities in Ludhiana have demolished properties of at least eight drug peddlers in the city so far. The accused, whose house was demolished, is Lakhan, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence in a snatching case. Police commissioner Swapan Sharma said, "Lakhan has at least five FIRs registered against him, including NDPS Act cases and snatching, etc. Currently, he is lodged in jail. The municipal corporation identified Lakhan's house as having been constructed illegally on encroached land. The corporation also stated that there are illegal constructions on about 3,000 square yards of land in this locality. Gradually, action will be taken against them all." Assistant town planner Kuljit Singh Mangat and MC building inspector Harminder Singh Makkar also joined the police in the drive. Officials said that the demolished house had been built illegally on municipal land that was earmarked for vehicle parking under the Transport Nagar development scheme.
