Ohio man tried to kill dog after $500 euthanasia quote, authorities say

A man in Ohio tried to kill his dog after receiving a quote for euthanasia for hundreds of dollars, authorities said. In a news release on Monday, the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney's Office said Richard Orth is facing an animal cruelty charge in connection with the attack last month. Officials said Orth brought his elderly dog, Tinkerbell, to the Animal Hospital of Delhi Hills on Anderson Ferry Road on May 23. There, a veterinarian said the dog needed to be euthanized and quoted Orth a price of $500, the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney's Office said. The press release said when staff left the room, Orth was heard on audio from the room saying, "Go be with God. I won't let you suffer. $500 is highway robbery." The 59-year-old Ohio man allegedly strangled the dog, causing injuries to its neck and throat. Tinkerbell was then euthanized, authorities said. "There's no excuse for what happened here," Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich said in the news release. "Our office is committed to holding those accountable who harm animals." The East Price Hill man was indicted on Monday on a charge of cruel treatment of companion animals. He faces up to one year in prison, officials said. Delhi Hills is in Hamilton County. It is a suburb of Cincinnati.

Euthanasia cost too much so man tried to kill his beloved dog, Ohio officials say

An Ohio man is facing charges after officials say he tried to kill his dog when the cost of euthanasia was too much. The 59-year-old man was indicted June 2 on one charge of cruel treatment of companion animals, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office. On May 23, the man took his elderly dog Tinkerbell to an animal hospital in Cincinnati. The veterinarian determined Tinkerbell needed to be euthanized, officials said. The man was told the cost of the euthanasia was $500. When staff left to get the medication ready, the man was heard saying 'go be with God. I won't let you suffer. $500 is highway robbery,' according to prosecutors. The man then strangled the dog, injuring its neck and throat, officials said. Tinkerbell was then euthanized. The same day Tinkerbell died, and before the man was indicted, he shared a photo of Tinkerbell, who he said he had for nine years, on Facebook with the caption, 'I am heartbroken. Words cannot express my pain. My dear Tinkerbell, I wish I could join you. I will always love you,' WKRC reported. The man also had a banner outside his home that said 'spoiled dogs live here,' according to the news outlet. 'There's no excuse for what happened here,' Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich said in the release. If convicted, he faces up to one year in prison.

‘Hacks' Pits Jimmy Kimmel vs. Deborah Vance in a 'Hilarious' Battle Over Kristen Bell: 'He Was a Riot!'

Hacks Season 4 has been all about the bonkers behind-the-scenes drama that goes into making late night comedy in 2025. This week, in Hacks Season 4 Episode 5 'Clickable Face,' the MAX hit tackles the stress of nabbing top tier talent that can appeal to, ahem, target demographics. After a focus group decides that Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) isn't relatable enough for their liking, the ruthless comic resorts to underhanded tactics to nab a super popular guest. The one problem? In doing so, she starts a turf war with none other than real life late night host Jimmy Kimmel. **Spoilers for Season 4 Episode 5 'Clickable Face,' now streaming on MAX** Early in Hacks Season 4 Episode 5 'Clickable Face,' Deborah Vance learns that women between the ages of 25 and 45 do not like her, per the aforementioned focus group, she decides that she absolutely needs to have a guest who does appeal to that demo. Jimmy (Paul W. Downs) floats the idea that popular star Kristen Bell could appear on the show for a much-needed ratings bump. The problem? Bell is already committed to appear on Kimmel. 'They vacation together,' Jimmy says. Undeterred, Deborah goes on a mission to the cute LA enclave of Larchmont to literally stalk Bell in her local grocery store. There, she confronts the real life star of Nobody Wants This (and a fictional live action Tinkerbell) to guilt the actress into appearing on her show ASAP. Bell obliges, but there's a problem. It's Kimmel. The next day, Jimmy Kimmel is literally waiting for Deborah at her parking spot, ready to push into her personal space and shake her down. 'KB's not doing your show,' he says bluntly, referring to Bell. 'Everyone knows that when she's got a new project, that she does my show first. I got full custody when Conan died.' Kimmel goes on to make fun of other late night hosts like Fallon and Cordon, all while alluding to the work he's done to secure bookings in the cutthroat world of late night talent booking. It's a more sinister side to the late night host and one that Jean Smart revealed wasn't (initially) true to life. 'Hilarious! Hilarious!' Smart exclaimed when DECIDER asked her about the scene. 'And he was so sweet!' 'When we first started the scene, he kept apologizing to everybody. He said, 'You know, just please be patient. Please be kind. I don't normally do this.'' And he was really nervous,' she added. However, as the day went on, Kimmel became more comfortable with his part on Hacks. 'By the end of the scene, he was like padding his part and adding lines,' Smart said. 'It was like, 'We've created a monster.'' 'I love it,' Hacks co-star Hannah Einbinder chimed in. 'He was a riot. He was so much fun,' Smart said. Smart also revealed she had one slight regret about the whole situation. DECIDER spoke to her and Einbinder weeks before Hacks Season 4's April premiere date and Kimmel's cameo was still a tightly kept secret. 'I'm going to do his show April 9th and I wish we could show a clip of that scene, but we can't because it won't have aired yet,' Smart said. 'I really wish we could.'

North Shore Animal League's 2025 Tour For Life makes a stop in Ohio Township

The North Shore Animal League's 2025 Tour For Life will span 67 cities and 39 states, and on Sunday, it made a stop in western Pennsylvania at Animal Friends in Ohio Township. Jeanette Murray came out with the first adoption of the day. "We found each other pretty quick, then it's meant to be," Murray, of Ross Township, said. She is bringing home Wompuscat. That name might not last long. "I think it's gonna be changed to Tinkerbell," Murray said. Either way, that and the scene on Sunday excited Karisa Fernandez. "This is our first large-scale adoption event in over five years," Fernandez, the special events coordinator at Animal Friends, said. "That's since before the pandemic." Animal Friends is the western Pennsylvania representative for the 2025 Tour For Life. "Animal Friends has welcomed us. They welcomed our mobile unit. We're gonna put some of their adoptable animals on there," Kathleen Lynn, senior director of North Shore Animal League America, said. That they did. Not all the animals there on Sunday call Animal Friends home. "We've even transferred some in from our partner shelters," Fernandez said. But from rabbits eating grass to napping cats, the goal was simple: to get as many pets out of the shelter as possible. "Every time you adopt, you save two lives," Lynn said. "The one you take home, the one we can rescue and put in its place." For the people at North Shore Animal League America, this 39-state tour is nearing its end. "This is our wrap-up weekend, and we couldn't think of doing it in a better place," Lynn said. It was perfect timing for Murray. She was looking for a companion for her handicapped son. "He hasn't been ready for a puppy for a very long time [since] his passed away," she said. Animal Friends hopes it can do more of these bigger-type adoption events in the future.
