She started rechecking his documents. "We went through his salary slips, letters of recommendations, etc, and found out that the person scammed the company with fake salary slips," she revealed. "It was all fake. We got completely duped," Ms Kaur said, showing screenshots in her Instagram post. "Honestly, as founders, this was such a huge wake-up call, and it's so important to do your due diligence and make sure that if something seems fishy, you need to ask questions early," she said towards the end of another video on the same scam. It's your right to have the correct information about anyone you've decided to hire!" she advised.

‘Something Felt Off': Founder Exposes Senior Employee's Forged Documents

Last Updated: The CEO said a senior marketing hire at her company had faked salary slips and lied about his career history. Entrepreneur Arshia Kaur, founder of the beauty startup Tint Cosmetics, has shared a shocking hiring experience. In a video, she revealed that a senior marketing hire at her company had allegedly faked salary slips and lied about his professional background. Kaur said she appointed him as Head of Marketing in 2024 after he impressed with his resume and interview performance. However, within weeks, she began noticing serious shortcomings in his work, poor communication, incomplete assignments and tasks being passed on to other employees. A review of his documents by the team allegedly uncovered clear signs of forgery and misrepresentation. Taking to Instagram, Kaur said, 'So back in November 2024, we wanted to hire somebody for the head of marketing position, someone who managed scale, growth, ecom, performance ads, everything. So we were on this founders group where we put up our inquiry in terms of who we wanted and this guy reached out us, So on paper, this guy looked amazing, he walked us through his previous work, the growth he had done for his previous company and everything looked extremely legit because we actually saw the back end. So we ended up hiring him, and within a month of us hiring him, something felt off." 'He absolutely could not communicate with the team or with us; all his tasks were given to other team members, or it was put on us because he was unable to fulfil them. So after multiple discussions and warnings, we sort of told him time and again that we won't be able to keep you here any longer if you don't start showing results. So two and a half months later, we made the decision to let him go because things had not improved. SO we were just thinking how has this guy pulled off such amazing work for other brands and not even done like 5% of that year? So something was just not sitting right. So he went back to his paperwork that he submitted, salary slips, letter of recommendation, etc, and what we found in his salary slips was blow your mind," Arshia Kaur added. The founder said she was stunned to discover that the employee had deceived them with fake salary slips. On closer inspection, the documents appeared suspicious; they showed him working every single day of the month, including weekends, without a single day off. There was no official stamp or signature from his previous employer, and the slips looked as though they had been created in an Excel sheet. Initially, the team overlooked these red flags, assuming no one would go so far as to fabricate salary slips, given that it is illegal. However, before processing his final payment, they decided to verify whether he had actually received the stated salary at his previous job. When he came to the office, they asked him to open his bank statements as proof. Caught off guard, he fell silent before claiming that most of the payments had been given to him in cash. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Arshia Kaur (@ Reacting to the post, a user wrote, 'You should have checked it thoroughly and done reference and background checks." Another shared, 'Hiring these days is super tough because this generation lies a lot. We conduct a 2-hour interview after the technical round, and the whole agenda is to cross-question them so thoroughly that they eventually fumble on the numbers and get caught. These days, people with just 6 months of experience demand 10 LPA, and some jump from 3 LPA straight to 8 LPA." 'So you hired him based on his skills and the whole interview process, why not pay him for that? Why look at his previous pay instead?" a comment read. One more added, 'I know it's a horrid situation. Try having a professional hr recruitment firm who will do all the checks and background work to get you the honest and high-quality talent! We do this for all our clients. Let me know if we can help. I hope you guys get the best talent to work with." The founder said the incident was a major learning experience. She stressed that business owners should scrutinise details closely and act immediately if something feels off. Even when documents or credentials appear genuine, it is essential to verify them through multiple sources. She warned against waiting too long, as her team did, noting that thorough background checks can save a company from losing time, money, resources, and potential growth due to a single bad hire. 'Hired, paid… and fired in 3 months': Startup founder's viral post on employee who faked it all

Building a startup is no easy feat, and hiring the wrong person can be a costly mistake. Arshia Kaur, founder of beauty brand Tint Cosmetics, has gone viral on Instagram after sharing a shocking hiring experience that left her out of time, money and trust. In a series of videos, Kaur recounted how her company hired a 'perfect-on-paper' candidate for the Head of Marketing role in November 2024. The applicant seemed ideal-- claiming experience in scaling brands, managing e-commerce, running ad campaigns, and driving growth. He even walked the team through what appeared to be the backend of his previous work. 'He looked amazing on paper… everything seemed extremely legit,' Kaur said. But within weeks of joining, things began to unravel. The new hire struggled to communicate with the team or management, failed to deliver on assigned tasks, and offloaded work onto other employees-- including Kaur herself. Despite multiple discussions and warnings, there was no improvement. He was fired just two and a half months into the job. The real shock came later. Curious about the mismatch between his alleged past achievements and his current performance, Kaur rechecked his documents-- and realised the entire CV had been fabricated. His salary slips were forged on Microsoft Excel, complete with impossible details such as '31 working days' in a month. There was no company stamp or signature. 'It was all fake. We got completely duped,' Kaur said, showing screenshots in her Instagram post. The entrepreneur said the incident was a hard lesson in hiring diligence. 'When you're bootstrapped, every single penny matters -- it's hard-earned money. Please double-check every document before hiring. Founders, it's your right to have the correct information about anyone you bring into your company,' she advised. Her story has since sparked debate among small business owners and job seekers alike, with many calling it a wake-up call for stricter background checks in the hiring process.
