Binghamton man accused of abusing care facility resident

TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Binghamton man was arrested on March 5 following an investigation in the endangerment of a physically disabled care facility resident. The Tioga County Sheriff's Office announced that the Criminal Investigation Division took Edward Renwick Jr., 61, into custody. The arrest stems from a week-long investigation into the report of an incident that occurred on February 25 at a Broome Developmental Center residential care facility in the Town of Owego. Renwick, an employee of the facility, allegedly caused physical injury to a resident while also engaging in conduct which endangered the welfare of another resident. Renwick was charged with the following: Two counts of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the First Degree, a Class E Felony Endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person or an incompetent or physically disabled person in the Second Degree, a Class E Felony Renwick was arraigned and released pending future proceedings in the Town of Owego Court. An order of protection was issued for the victim. Owego man arrested as fugitive from justice out of PA after chase

BARTON, N.Y. (WETM) – An Owego man has been arrested as a fugitive from justice out of Pennsylvania after authorities say he fled from deputies after being found in the Town of Barton. Nicholas R. Whitmarsh, 31, was arrested on Friday, Feb. 21, on a fugitive from justice warrant in addition to charges of resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration, as reported by the Tioga County Sheriff's Office. Authorities say they were called to a location in Barton after receiving an anonymous tip regarding Whitmarsh's potential location. Authorities were further informed that Whitmarsh had been spotted walking away from the backside of the property location. Original story: Tioga County, NY Sheriff's Office search for Owego fugitive out of PA After deputies spotted Whitmarsh, authorities say he attempted to run away on foot but was later taken into custody on Interstate 86 in Barton. He was then arrested on the above-listed charges. Whitmarsh had his charges read to him in CAP court and was then placed in the Tioga County Jail.
