From Pahalgam Terror Attack To Bihars Voter Roll Revision: What's On INDIA Bloc's Monsoon Session Agenda?

The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) held a virtual meeting on Saturday to discuss the key issues that would be raised in the Monsoon session of the parliament, which is scheduled to begin from Monday (July 21). The meeting was attended by leaders and representatives of the bloc parties. INDIA Bloc Virtual Meeting The attendees of the INDIA bloc virtual meet included Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Senior Leader Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, NCP (SP) leader Sharad Pawar, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray. Other leaders who attended the meeting were: Abhishek Banerjee (TMC), Ramgopal Yadav (Samajwadi Party), D Raja (CPI), and Tiruchi Siva (DMK). Briefing reporters on the meeting, Congress leader and Deputy LoP in Rajya Sabha, Pramod Tiwari said, 'The meeting discussed issues related to the people of the country that we will raise during the monsoon session.' Here are the key points the INDIA bloc intends to raise in Parliament's Monsoon Session: 1- Pahalgam And Operation Sindoor He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should respond to the concerns of members about the Pahalgam terror attack and their queries concerning Operation Sindoor. The Indian Armed Forces had launched precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) during the wee hours of May 7 to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. India subsequently repelled subsequent Pakistani aggression and pounded its airbases. New Delhi and Islamabad had agreed to a ceasefire after Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called his Indian counterpart. 2- Trump's Ceasefire Mediation Claims Tiwari also referred to repeated remarks of US President Donald Trump about brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He emphasised that the members expressed concern over the repeated claims made by US President Donald Trump that he mediated the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He said Trump has so far made the claims 24 times. 3- Bihar Voter Roll Revision The Congress leader also said that the INDIA parties expressed their concern over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar. He said it was felt that there was an undeclared Emergency during which voters' names were being removed from the list. 4- Centre's Foreign Policy He said that the government's foreign policy stances require a lot of answers, and there was concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza. 'Where is the Prime Minister's leadership on Pakistan, China, and Gaza? If we treat these as key national issues, the PM must answer in Parliament,' he said, as per IANS. 5- Air India Ahmedabad Plane Crash "We will also seek answers on many other important issues, including the Ahmedabad plane accident," Tiwari added. 6- According to the Congress Leader, other issues that the INDIA bloc plans to raise in the Monsoon session include delimitation, atrocities on Dalits, STs, and women. He added that a physical meeting of the INDIA group will also be held shortly. Tiwari said opposition parties want the Parliament to work smoothly, and the government should answer their concerns. Bills On Mosoon Session's Agenda As per ANI, the bills on the agenda of the government include: Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill of 2025, Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill of 2025, Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2025, the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill 2025, the Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill 2025, the Mines and Mines (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill 2025, the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill 2025. The agenda of the government also includes the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024, the Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024, the Indian Ports Bill, 2025, and the Income Tax Bill, 2025.

INDIA bloc parties resolve to question foreign policy ‘failures' of government

The Opposition will highlight the government's failure to apprehend the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack and U.S. President Donald Trump's repeated claims on allegedly brokering peace between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, the leaders of 24 INDIA bloc parties decided at a virtual meeting on Saturday (July 19, 2025) evening. The meeting comes ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which is scheduled to begin on Monday (July 21, 2025). Sources said the parties have also decided to hold a protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar ahead of the Assembly polls in the State. The Parliamentary floor leaders could have another meeting, after the all-party meeting hosted by the government on Sunday. Statehood for J&K The demand for statehood for Jammu and Kashmir will also be raised during the session. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had recently written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the subject. National Conference leader and J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the Opposition must be firm on this demand. It was also decided that the INDIA bloc should have a physical meeting soon. Addressing reporters at the end of the meeting, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said that the leaders have listed eight priority issues, though this by no means is an exhaustive list of all the subjects that the Opposition plans to raise. 'The issue that directly impacts the pride of 140 crore Indians is why, even after so many days, the government has failed to nab terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack,' he said. Mr. Tiwari said that the government has already 'confessed' that there was an 'intelligence failure'. 'U.S. President Donald Trump's repeated claim, at least 24 times, is that he used America's trade deal as the negotiating card to broker peace between India and Pakistan. And in face of these claims our Prime Minister has been mute. We will raise this issue,' he added. There was speculation that the Trinamool Congress could skip the meeting, but the party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was present. Sources said that Mr. Banerjee questioned why the Intelligence Bureau chief Tapan Deka got an extension even though the J&K Lt. Governor himself admitted that 'intelligence failure' led to the terror attack. The meeting began with Mr. Kharge's presenting a brief outline on what the Opposition expected from the government during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. He said that the 'foreign policy failure' in the context of the Pahalgam terror attack needs to be addressed. Mr. Gandhi, in a very brief intervention, said that India's 'recent failures in foreign policy is intricately connected to the Pahalgam terror attack'. During this discussion, Mr. Tiwari said the Opposition will also raise India's stand on 'Israel's brutal and persistent attack on Gaza'. 'We expect the Prime Minister to be present during the debate on these issues,' Mr. Tiwari added. Several parties also raised the issue of the impending delimitation, which is of deep concern to the Southern States that are anticipating a possible reduction in seats in Parliament because of the exercise. CPI general secretary D. Raja flagged Mr. Gandhi's recent remarks equating the CPI(M) and RSS. According to sources, he said leaders should not raise statements that 'create conflict' among the INDIA bloc constituents and 'confusion among the people'. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader and Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren also participated.

Parliament's Monsoon session 2025: INDIA bloc to raise Pahalgam attack, Trump's claims on 'ceasefire', Bihar SIR among other topics

Parliament- File image Parliament's Monsoon session 2025: INDIA bloc parties on Saturday resolved to raise during the Parliament's Monsoon session the issues of Pahalgam attack terrorists not being brought to justice, US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of brokering a 'ceasefire' between India and Pakistan and the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar that the opposition alleges 'threatens people's voting rights'. Ahead of the start of the session on July 21, the leaders of 24 opposition parties of the bloc held an online meeting and decided to raise eight major issues like foreign policy 'failure' and 'atrocities' in Gaza, delimitation exercise and 'targeting' of SCs/STs, women and minorities in the country. Addressing the media after the meeting, Congress' deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari said the opposition parties would expect the prime minister to be present in Parliament and respond to the issues raised on the floor of the House, asserting that 'Parliament is more important than travelling abroad'. He also said that an in-person meeting of the bloc leaders would take place 'soon' after today's 'successful and cordial' online meeting. Leaders who participated in the meeting included Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Jharkhand Cchief Minister Hemant Soren, NCP (SP)'s Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray (SS-UBT), Abhishek Banerjee (TMC), Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), Ram Gopal Yadav (SP), Tiruchi Siva (DMK) M A Baby of CPI-M, D Raja (CPI), CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, among others. The leaders expressed serious concern over the government's 'inaction' in bringing to justice the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack and its 'silence' on repeated claims made by US President Donald Trump in bringing about a 'ceasefire' on the hostilities between India and Pakistan, according to Tiwari. The leaders also expressed concern over the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar that 'threatens the voting rights of people' in the state, he said. 'There is an undeclared Emergency that has been imposed and voting rights are under threat,' he said. Tiwari also said that the leaders expressed concern over India's foreign policy, asserting that it is the prime minister who is answerable to everyone in the country. He said some of our colleagues raised the issue of delimitation and 'atrocities' against SC, ST, women and minorities. 'We have also decided that soon an INDIA bloc meeting will be held physically,' he said while noting that today's online meeting was 'very cordial and took up the concerns of the 140 crore people of the country'. 'We would want Parliament to function so that we raise the issues and the government answers,' he said. Sources close to Banerjee said he raised the issue of SIR in Bihar, alleging that the BJP and the Election Commission are using it in the form of 'backdoor NRC'. He said the BJP is using 'E square' (E2) in its attack – 'ED for opposition leaders and EC for voters'. The INDIA bloc parties held deliberations to reach a consensus on issues that they would raise to corner the government during Parliament's Monsoon session beginning July 21 and to convey a message of unity. The opposition bloc's meeting was held after a long gap, and 24 political parties, including the Congress, TMC, DMK, RJD, SP, NCP-SP, Shiv Sena (UBT), JMM, CPI-M, CPI, CPI-ML, Forward Bloc, IUML and Kerala Congress, participated in the discussions.

Chief secretary Alka Tiwari reviews Jharia master plan

Dhanbad : State chief secretary Alka Tiwari on Friday visited Dhanbad to review the progress of the Jharia Rehabilitation revised master plan. During her visit, she held a high-level meeting with officials from Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority (JRDA), and the district administration to assess ongoing rehabilitation efforts. Speaking to the media, Tiwari said that the govt's primary objective is to rehabilitate people affected by underground mine fires in the Jharia region. "Rehabilitation is not just about relocation. Our broader mission is to ensure the affected families achieve financial independence through employment and skill development," she said. She emphasised that unless people are economically empowered, the goal of sustainable rehabilitation would remain incomplete. Tiwari directed officials to expedite the rehabilitation process and to create an environment where affected families can start afresh and lead dignified lives. Highlighting the importance of basic infrastructure in the Belgaria township, where many affected families have been relocated, she said that facilities like hospitals, schools, anganwadi centres, police stations, and post offices must be established at the earliest. She also instructed the district administration to ensure proper road connectivity and transportation between Dhanbad and Belgaria, and to explore avenues for generating self-employment among the relocated population. Her visit marks a renewed push by the state govt to fast-track the implementation of the Jharia Rehabilitation Plan and improve the living standards of those displaced by decades of coal fires.
