Dream in D Minor: Front Man Shreyansh Mohan Verma on Leading Drops' Indie Journey
What began as a tribute to The Local Train at Delhi's Summer House Café turned into a full-blown concert by indie-rock band Leading Drops, this Wednesday. The five-piece band is fronted by vocalist Shreyansh Mohan Verma and guitarist-composer Nishant Tiwari, with drummer Sharang Arora, bassist Shubhansh Mishra, and pianist-producer Deep Chatterjee. Formed in 2019 at a university in Punjab, where Bollywood covers were off-limits—it pushed the band towards original compositions. 'From the start, our originals were well received,' Verma recalls. The initial lineup of Verma, Tiwari, and three college mates quickly became a campus staple, gaining traction through gigs and competitions. Their big break came when they opened for Amit Trivedi at Coke Studio's Campus Concert 2019. Then came Covid-19. Scattered across states, they kept recording remotely. During lockdown, they released their debut single 'Marz', followed by 'Pyari Maa'. After college, Verma and Tiwari moved to Noida, ready to re-enter Delhi's music scene. 'We realised we'd been in a bubble,' Verma says. 'Other bands were so tight. It was intimidating—but it also fired us up.' In 2022, a high-profile Mumbai gig fell through when their producer caught the virus. 'I was crushed,' Verma admits. Burned out from pulling gigs, handling socials, and trying to keep the band alive, he watched three members leave. 'Suddenly, it was just me and Nishant again,' he says — back where it all began.

‘Tobacco is major contributor to many life-threatening diseases'
Prayagraj: The 'World No Tobacco Day' will be observed on Saturday (May 31) under the theme of 'Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing the Industry Tactics on Tobacco & Nicotine Products'. Senior consultant oncologist at Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital, Prayagraj, Dr. Sonia Tiwari said, "Tobacco use is a major contributor to several life-threatening diseases, including cancer affecting the oral cavity, head and neck, breast, esophagus, colon, lungs, liver, stomach, and other body parts. Other lung diseases like COPD, TB, heart complications, pregnancy complications, weakened immune system, diabetes, reduced fertility, premature aging, dental problems and overall mortality are also linked to tobacco use. It is responsible for 25% of all cancer deaths worldwide, amounting to an estimated 2 million deaths yearly. In particular, smoking is responsible for about 85% of all lung cancer deaths. Tobacco consumption causes the death of more than 8 million people around the world, with more than 7 million deaths resulting from direct tobacco use". Dr Tiwari, meanwhile, said, "Due to the regular efforts of WHO against the use of tobacco, there is a decline in tobacco use, but the decrease is less substantial. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like ¡Los Estados Unidos le ofrece el mejor futuro para usted y su familia! She also claimed that it is painful to witness that the target customers for the tobacco industry are youths aged between 14 and 20 years. More than 15 million young people (14-20 years) are using some form of tobacco. Within India, tobacco use among 14-20-year-olds includes a good percentage of boys and some share of girls too, indicating challenge in curbing youth tobacco consumption. She, however, said, "We advocate for stringent controls on marketing strategies for new products especially designed to appeal to youths, such as e-cigarettes, especially flavoured products, smokeless tobacco, snus, and pouches, which are aggressively promoted through social media." She also mentioned that the entire medical community welcomes increasing taxes on tobacco products to make them less affordable. Dr. Anoop Chauhan said, " To quit tobacco, apart from strong willpower, one needs to get away from places that are tobacco-prone. Drink lots of water and fluids, stay away from sugar, coffee, and fatty food, and attend the gym or go jogging."

No drainage & poor sanitation causes outbreak of diarrhoea
Raipur: A diarrhoea outbreak in Thetha Debri Basti of Shanti Nagar, Bilaspur, affected around 40 residents, including children, due to poor sanitation and suspected consumption of contaminated water. Chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr Pramod Tiwari informed that while the situation is currently under control, five patients are still undergoing treatment—three at the state-run Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS), Bilaspur, and two in a private hospital. Authorities identified unhygienic conditions—particularly illegal settlements near a stagnant pond with no drainage—as the likely cause. Municipal officials plan to take corrective action after summer. According to Dr Tiwari, the outbreak was first reported on May 26 when 28 individuals presented symptoms of diarrhoea, creating an alarming situation. However, all were treated with preliminary care and discharged as their condition was not serious. "There were no critical cases among the initial group, but we remain vigilant," he said. Preliminary investigations point to contaminated water and poor sanitation in the area as the root causes of the outbreak. Further civic intervention to improve sanitation infrastructure in the area is expected in the coming days. Bilaspur Municipal Corporation (BMC) health officer Anupam Tiwari, who is monitoring the arrangements at the Basti, told TOI that the corporation team collected water samples and tested them, but no contamination was detected. He said the cause of the outbreak appeared to be the unhygienic conditions in the area.

India ODI skipper Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly one of the finest cricketers produced by the country. From his powerful leadership to marvelous batting records, Rohit has taken Indian cricket to new heights. Recently, he announced his retirement from Test cricket, which paved way for Shubman Gill to become India's new Test captain. Apart from his on-field heroics, Rohit is also widely known for his chill attitude and friendly nature. The biggest example of Rohit's humility and down-to-earth behaviour was given by social media influencer and IPL presenter Tanay Tiwari. Recently, Tiwari appeared on Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast and revealed an unheard story about his internship days with Mumbai Indians, where Rohit Sharma "saved his career" with his sweet gesture. "When I was an intern with Mumbai Indians, I accidentally spilled hot coffee on him. I was interviewing him and it was a really small table, with a camera, and in a rush I spilled the coffee. There was someone there from his team with him, and she really scolded me a lot, a lot. And I was 21 in 2017. I was about to cry, I was thinking my career was over even before it began," said Tiwari on Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast. Tiwari then revealed how Rohit saved the day and came to the rescue by backing him. "He was like, 'Jaane de yaar, baccha hai (let it go, he's a kid.) You ask your question, it's only coffee that has spilled, don't worry.' He saved my career then." "Quite a few times [I've told him]. I met him and couldn't say anything except thank you. I told him Rohit bhai, you probably don't know how much happiness you've given, to how many different people. He was like 'Arrey yaar, aaja yaar (Come here),'" said Tiwari. Talking about Rohit, the veteran opener is currently playing for Mumbai Indians, who have reached the playoffs of IPL 2025. The five-time champions will be squaring off against Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator match on Friday in Mullanpur.
