Micah Parsons – Jerry Jones rift is reaching unseen levels in Cowboys history
The post Micah Parsons – Jerry Jones rift is reaching unseen levels in Cowboys history appeared first on ClutchPoints. Last week, Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons shook up the NFL world by formally announcing his trade request from the team on social media. The move sent fans from all 31 other fanbases scrambling to put together their best trade packages for the disgruntled Cowboys star, who hasn't been signed to the contract extension he's been seeking this summer. Recently, ESPN NFL insider Todd Archer stopped by the Dan Patrick Show to break down why this move is so unprecedented. 'Tell me the last time a Cowboys star player has not signed,' said Archer. 'That Jerry (Jones) has not kept. It took Emmitt missing two games and the Cowboys going 0 – 2 in '93 for that deal to get done. We know that Dak deals had taken time here the last couple negotiations that Dak has had. We saw CeeDee Lamb negotiations take through almost the end of August the last year. But again, none of those guys said, 'I don't want to be here anymore.' None of those guys claimed and talked about 'repeated shots' that they feel the organization is taking against him. That's what makes this different.' A shocking turn of events As Archer noted to Dan Patrick, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys haven't always been prompt about getting their star players new extensions. We most recently saw this with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, both of whom threatened to make things ugly before eventually being signed to new deals last year. However, the Cowboys' reluctance to pay Parsons his due has boiled over into something new altogether, something that has threatened to derail this upcoming Dallas season before it even has a chance to begin. The Cowboys were hoping to bounce back in 2025-26 after a 2024 season that was largely derailed by injuries, including to quarterback Dak Prescott, who went out for the season in early November. However, from now until the situation is resolved one way or another, there will be a major Micah Parsons-sized cloud hanging over the franchise. The Cowboys are slated to kick off their 2025 season in exactly one month on the road against the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Cowboys' Dak Prescott makes major health declaration before training camp
The post Cowboys' Dak Prescott makes major health declaration before training camp appeared first on ClutchPoints. Unfortunately, the Dallas Cowboys must deal with the arrest of an important player. They also have several tight positional battles. But there's good news as Dak Prescott made a major health declaration before the team's 2025 training camp. Prescott said he's ready to get with it, according to a post on X by Todd Archer. Dak Prescott said he is fully healthy and ready to go for training camp from his hamstring surgery, pending one more checkup with the team doctors. No surprise, considering he took part in all of the drills in the offseason program. At the most important position, the Cowboys are good to go as they head into training camp. Cowboys expect good things from healthy QB Dak Prescott Prescott said his focus is on getting something that has eluded his grasp thus far, according to The soon-to-be 32-year-old Prescott said it's not a legacy he's chasing. 'Yeah, I want to win a championship,' Prescott said. 'The legacy, the things, whatever comes after I finish playing, will take care of itself. I want to win a championship. Be damned if it's just for my legacy. Or if it's for this team, for my personal being, for my sanity. Yeah, the legacy will take care of itself. I have to stay where my feet are.' It seems certain that Prescott must continue his good health if the Cowboys are going to reach such lofty goals. Each time he missed significant portions of the season, the Cowboys faltered without him behind center. Prescott said the Cowboys are headed in the right direction. 'These OTAs, just the way that I've been seeing minicamp, the communication with (head coach Brian Schottenheimer), with the quarterbacks or the quarterback room, just a lot of good things,' Prescott said. 'A lot of really good things that have me in a great place. I'm healthy. Excited as hell.' Prescott didn't exactly get a ringing endorsement recently from Schottenheimer, according to Scottenheimer said Prescott is in a developmental phase along with the team's other quarterbacks. 'I think they all are,' Schottenheimer responded to a question about sophomore quarterback Joe Milton III, who the Cowboys acquired via trade this offseason, being in the developmental phase of his career. 'I think Dak is in the developmental phase. It sounds crazy for a guy who's played that much, but there are things we're tweaking with Dak. It's not just for Joe.' Tyler Smith says Cowboys Super Bowl win is an 'expectation'
"Super Bowl champions," Smith replied, per ESPN's Todd Archer. "That's always the expectation." Smith insisted the Cowboys winning a championship for the first time since Super Bowl 30 - which was played in 1996 to put a bow on the 1995 NFL season - is "a realistic goal." Why? "Because we can win a Super Bowl. Why not? Why can't we win?" he said. "Do you think it's unrealistic?" To Smith's point, the Cowboys made the playoffs in three consecutive seasons before their 7-10 finish last season. They failed to advance past the divisional round in any of those appearances but posted a 12-5 regular-season record each campaign. T.J. WATT CONTRACT: Why Micah Parsons is winner after Steelers star signs Meanwhile, Dallas' 2024 season was derailed by a midseason five-game losing streak, during which starting quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury. Prescott said ahead of training camp he is fully recovered from that injury. His presence should provide the Cowboys with more stability at quarterback after they leaned on Cooper Rush and Trey Lance to close the 2024 campaign. Smith also believes the additions of wide receiver George Pickens and first-round guard Tyler Booker will bolster an already strong Dallas offense. "I think we built a great core on offense; the addition of George and all the other key pieces," Smith said. "I think drafting Booker, he's going to be a hell of a guy just to bolster the front line. And we have many guys across the board, but those are some of the guys who are the key pieces on what we do this year."

Rookie Tyler Booker's 'Legal Assault' Already Compares to Four Dallas Cowboys Legends
Rookie Tyler Booker's 'Legal Assault' Already Compares to Four Dallas Cowboys Legends originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Cowboys may have found their next standout O-lineman in Alabama's Tyler Booker who they selected with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Advertisement Booker's arrival comes at a pivotal time, as future Hall of Famer Zack Martin retired following the 2024 season—leaving a major void on the offensive line. And so far? Booker has been better than advertised after a strong summer of early offseason workouts. 'Despite the padless practices, Booker has impressed with his willingness to learn and work,' ESPN's Todd Archer wrote. 'He has been with the starters from the first OTA through the minicamp, so there's no pretense about what is expected. He is being viewed the same way the Cowboys have viewed Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin and Tyler Smith: as a Day 1 starter.' It should come as no surprise Booker is a plug and play starter after dominating collegiate competition. He stands 6-5, 321 pounds and plays the game with the type of nastiness and aggression that makes opposing defenders 'not love football anymore.' Advertisement His Draft time quote resonates ... 'I just love the aggressiveness and the tenacity of the game of football. It's legal assault out there,' Booker said. 'I love football. The brand of football I play, I make guys not love football anymore.' Booker is a natural leader and has shown an impressive willingness to continue learning the nuances of his position at the NFL level. 'Whether it's the responsibilities that (Booker) has to bring to the huddle or whether it's his communications on the line, he's doing a hell of a job,' quarterback Dak Prescott said. 'And you can tell this guy is a football player. Guy has a lot of pride standard in what he does.' Advertisement With his physical tools and winning mindset, Booker will be a cornerstone of the Cowboys' offensive line for years to come. Cowboys slide in ESPN's post-free agency NFL Power Rankings
Unlike last offseason, the Dallas Cowboys were much busier during the 2025 NFL Free Agency period. As it stands, Dallas has welcomed 10 new faces to its team, eight of which were signed, while the other two were acquired via trade. The Cowboys elected to go with short-term value, with eight different players agreeing to contracts of two years or less, while five of the overall acquisitions were former first-round selections. Despite being more active in the open market, the Cowboys, ranked 18th in ESPN's way-to-early power rankings in February, dropped three spots to 21st in the recent Post-Free Agency Rankings. The decline can be attributed to several factors, including insufficient financial investment in roster upgrades and a loss of key players as veterans DeMarcus Lawrence, Jourdan Lewis, and Brandin Cooks moved to other teams. While the Cowboys' free agency approach was a bit quieter compared to other teams, one player who gained attention as an under-the-radar move by ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer was DT Solomon Thomas. The veteran was the only external signing to receive a contract beyond one year, agreeing to a two-year deal for $6 million earlier this month. The Cowboys did not lay out a big financial investment in Thomas (just $3 million guaranteed), yet he can fill a number of roles in Matt Eberflus' defense and in the locker room. He played for new defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton with the Jets, so he can help teach what the new position coach wants. He has also been productive with 8.5 sacks over the past two seasons. Mainly, Thomas' experience will be a plus for a defense that lost some leadership in free agency and potentially needed a fresh voice anyway - Todd Archer A former 2017 first-round pick, Thomas, who is entering his ninth season, has played for three teams over his first eight years: the San Francisco 49ers, the Las Vegas Raiders, and most recently, the New York Jets, where, as Archer noted, he played for new Cowboys' defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton. The connection to Whitecotton will help familiarize the defensive line room with the first-year assistant's system and desired techniques. Additionally, the move to bring in Thomas gives Dallas another vocal leader and mentor to younger players up front, most notably third-year DT Mazi Smith, who enters what could be a prove-it year for the Cowboys this season. Thomas, who played high school football at Coppell High School in Coppell, TX, has recorded 212 tackles, 18.5 sacks, 72 QB pressures, and three forced fumbles in his NFL career.
