Indonesia Open: Tang Jie-Ee Wei storm into semis after comeback win over Danish pair

PETALING JAYA, June 6 — National mixed doubles duo Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei fought back from a game down to book their spot in the Indonesia Open semi-finals today. Free Malaysia Today (FMT) reported that the world No. 4 pair defeated Denmark's Mads Vestergaard-Christine Busch Andreasen 17-21, 21-16, 21-14 in a 50-minute clash — their first meeting in international competition. Tang Jie and Ee Wei, who recently reunited after a brief split orchestrated by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), showed promising signs of their previous form as they eye the Super 1000 title in Jakarta. They will face Thailand's world No. 6 pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran in the last four. The Thai pair advanced after eliminating Malaysia's Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie in straight sets, winning 21-16, 21-12 in just 33 minutes. Goh and Shevon, currently ranked world No. 5, have now lost five of their eight encounters with Dechapol-Supissara this year. Tang Jie-Ee Wei have so far clinched three BWF World Tour titles — the Orléans Masters and Taipei Open in 2023, followed by the Korea Open last year. They also reached the Super 1000 finals in December but were denied the title by a Chinese pair.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei clear first round, but yet to regaining synergy on court

National mixed double shuttler Toh Ee Wei - Chen Tang Jie react during quarter-final match at the Malaysia Open 2025 at Axiata Arena Bukit Jalil. — FAIHAN GHANI/The Star PETALING JAYA: Regaining rhythm and rebuilding chemistry is never easy, even after a short separation. That's the challenge facing mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, who are still trying to rediscover their synergy on court after being reunited recently. The duo cleared their opening hurdle at the Indonesian Open yesterday, defeating India's Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto 21-11, 16-21, 21-14. But it was far from a convincing display. Tang Jie-Ee Wei looked tense at times and struggled to find answers against their resilient opponents, but did just enough to pull through to the second round. 'I think they're always tough opponents because they're aggressive, physically strong and skilful,' said Tang Jie in an interview with the Badminton World Federation (BWF). 'Like Toh (Ee Wei), I'm still trying to regain my rhythm on court. That's why we keep pushing, stay motivated and support each other to get it back.'

Reunited Tang Jie-Ee Wei edge Indian pair to enter last 16

Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei won 21-11, 16-21, 21-14 against Indian rivals Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Reunited mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei showed they are still a force to be reckoned with, beating Indian rivals Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto in the opening round of the Indonesia Open this morning. The Malaysian pair, who are still ranked world No 4 despite breaking up their partnership for several tournaments, took 59 minutes to overcome the Indian pair who are ranked No 17 to win 21-11, 16-21, 21-14. During their brief separation, they played with different partners at the Malaysia Masters and the Thailand Open last month but were eliminated in the early rounds. They face up-and-coming Danish pair Mats Vestergaard-Christine Busch Andreasen in the second round tomorrow. Although the Danes are ranked No 27 in the world, their recent performance shows they will not be pushovers. The other Malaysian mixed doubles pair still in the running are Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai who will be playing against a relatively new Thai pair of Phuwanat Horbanluekit-Sapsiree Taerattanachai later today. Mixed doubles pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien were eliminated by an Indonesian pair in the first round yesterday.
