Cal Wilson's replacement on Great Australian Bake Off revealed after beloved comedian's tragic death
Foxtel has announced Cal Wilson's replacement on The Great Australian Bake Off, almost two years after she passed away aged 53. Comedian Tom Baker will co-anchor the dessert competition alongside the show's regular host Natalie Tran. Baker took to his social media to share the news with his fans. He also included a series of colourful pictures from the set of the show, including one in which the funnyman can be seen rocking a black and white woolly sweater with a quirky swirl print. 'Hello I am the co-host on the Great Australian Bake-Off!' the Whose Line Is It Anyway? he said in the Instagram post. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'They let me keep the cardigans and I am still not sure how to pronounce or spell mille-feuille! 'This was genuinely so much fun, I struggle to talk about and not sound completely nuts. The cast and crew were so welcoming, warm and funny and I am very, very, very happy.' Best known as a stand-up comedian, Baker has won prizes at both the Sydney Comedy Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He's also appeared on Guy Montgomery's Guy Mont-Spelling Bee. Baker and Tran will be joined this season by judges Rachel Khoo and Darren Purchese. Wilson tragically died after filming episodes for season seven of the popular cooking competition in 2023. She passed away on October 11, 2023 from a rare and aggressive cancer, just four weeks after taking herself to hospital with worrying lower back pain. The Melbourne-based stand up comedian is survived by her husband Chris Woods and son Digby. Fans were informed of her death in a statement shared to Instagram, confirming that the beloved comedian had passed away in a Sydney hospital. 'We are devastated to share the news that Cal Wilson, the much-loved stand up comedian, writer and actor died today, surrounded by family and friends in hospital after a short illness,' it read. 'Cal was loved by her family, friends, fans and peers and a huge hole has been torn in the heart of our community.' One of Australia's top comedians, Wilson had a long and successful career in stand-up and on TV. She had worked as a radio and television presenter, actress and author. She starred on TV shows Spicks and Specks, Would I Lie To You and Good News Week. She featured as host in episodes of The Great Australian Bake Off 2024. 'Cal's generosity, talent and friendships have been constant in the Australian comedy scene for the last twenty years,' her management company Token Artists said in a statement after her death. 'Cal was loved by her family, friends, fans and peers and a huge hole has been torn in the heart of our community. Wilson filmed her Bake Off episodes before her illness made it impossible for her to continue to work. 'Season Seven holds a special place in all our hearts. Cal's passing was a devastating shock to the Bake Off family,' Foxtel senior staffer Wendy Moore said last year ahead of the show going to air. Moore added Foxtel had the 'full support' of Wilson's family to ensure her terrific final series of Bake Off was aired. Wilson only filmed four episodes before her passing and comedian Tran took over hosting duties for the rest of the series.

PC Connection Inc (CNXN) Q1 2025 Earnings Call Highlights: Strong Sales Growth Amid Economic ...
Release Date: April 30, 2025 For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. PC Connection Inc (NASDAQ:CNXN) reported a 10.9% increase in consolidated net sales, reaching $701 million in the first quarter. Net income rose by 2.5% to $13.5 million compared to the prior year quarter. Adjusted diluted earnings per share increased by 20% to $0.60. The company experienced a 21% year-over-year increase in notebook and desktop net sales, driven by device refresh initiatives. PC Connection Inc (NASDAQ:CNXN) received several industry awards, including Intel's AIPC Partner of the Year and Samsung's Display Partner of the Year. Gross margins decreased by 50 basis points to 18.2%, attributed to a shift towards notebooks and desktops. The public sector solutions segment saw a gross margin decrease of 240 basis points due to large project rollouts at lower margins. Interest income decreased by $664,000 compared to the previous year. Cash flow used in operations was $52.4 million, primarily due to an increase in inventory and a decrease in accounts payable. The company faced challenges with tariffs affecting customer purchasing decisions and economic uncertainty impacting spending. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 1 Warning Sign with CNXN. Q: Tim, you mentioned that some customers were accelerating purchases while others were delaying. Is there a pattern in the type of customer or vertical that was accelerating versus holding off? A: (Tim McGrath, CEO) It's a mixed bag. Some customers are focused on cost containment and expense reduction due to economic concerns and tariffs. Others see technology, especially AI, as a path forward for productivity. Federal projects were strong, driven by large projects, and we saw growth in finance and healthcare. Our small and mid-market teams are consistent, but large enterprises show more robust growth potential. Q: Can you provide more detail on expected growth for the year, given the backlog and market conditions? A: (Tom Baker, CFO) We're looking at mid to high single-digit growth for the year. We started strong with 10% growth in Q1, but there's still market uneasiness. SG&A savings will start reflecting in Q2, and we're aiming for mid-single-digit growth in SG&A, keeping it below revenue growth. Q: How did the quarter progress from January to March, and what are you seeing in Q2? A: (Tom Baker, CFO) January and February were light, but March improved significantly, with 34% of revenues coming in then. Customers are getting more comfortable with the economic situation, and there was some buying ahead of expected tariffs. In Q2, tariffs are a concern, but we're helping customers navigate through this. Q: Are you still considering acquisitions given the current market conditions? A: (Tim McGrath, CEO) Yes, we're still looking at acquisitions, particularly tuck-ins that expand our solutions capability or enter new markets. The interest rate environment affects opportunities, but we're ready to proceed when the right opportunity arises. Q: Can you elaborate on the impact of AI on your business and customer projects? A: (Tim McGrath, CEO) AI is driving productivity, and many customers are investing in AI-enabled projects. We saw 21% growth in our endpoint business, with 40% of that being AI-enabled. Customers are preparing for AI projects and edge computing, which is reflected in our strong backlog. Peterborough knitters create 50ft scarf for Dr Who exhibition
A team of knitters have used their skills to create a 50ft (15m) long scarf for an unofficial Doctor Who exhibition. Adventures in Time & Space, which opens at Peterborough Museum next month, asked the museum's resident knitting group to embrace the Time Lord's spirit and create the original neckwear worn by the fourth Doctor, played by actor Tom Baker, reportedly measured 18ft (5.5m), so this woolly masterpiece is more than three times its length."It took about six weeks to knit the scarf and we are really pleased to have gifted it to the museum to support the exhibition," a group spokeswoman said. As well as forming a great friendship group and support network, the 14 members raise money for The Children's Society by selling their hand-knitted items. The knitters, who are known as SCARF, said that after the exhibition ends in November, they plan to turn the scarf into shorter versions to donate to a local homeless charity in Peterborough.
