Tom Schwartz Reveals the 'Creative' and Unexpected Career Path He Wants to Pursue

From bartender and model to restaurateur and podcaster, Tom Schwartz has held many distinct job titles over the past 12 years. And while it's clear he isn't afraid to make an unexpected career pivot, the Vanderpump Rules alum recently revealed the "creative" occupation he's always wanted to try but has yet to fully pursue. 'Well, I've kind of tried it, I dabble,' he said during the May 19 episode of Michelle Saniei's Pursuit of Sassiness podcast. 'There's part of me — I don't know if I've ever said this publicly — that wants to be an artist. Will I ever pursue painting as a career? Do I have any talent? Not really. But you know what the definition of an artist is? 'Hey, I could do that.' 'Yeah, but you didn't.' It's just you've got to start. And I love painting… We should've done a sip and paint for this episode.' Michelle said she could relate to Tom's artistic interests and shared her years-long desire to become a classical pianist just like her mother. The Valley cast member said she tried learning the instrument during the pandemic but was too preoccupied with her now-5-year-old daughter, Isabella. After expressing admiration for trained musicians, Tom looked back at his short stint as an amateur DJ. 'I'm not musically inclined, but I did, during the pandemic, I became a DJ — a bedroom DJ,' he said. 'And I love DJing… I'm OK. I was getting to the point where I was confident enough to DJ at TomTom.' The Minnesota native said his DJ name was 'DJ I'm Sorry,' because he was always apologizing for clumsy transitions. 'I mean, I still like it. I have, like, three decks, but I don't know,' he said about his DJ equipment. 'I see my boys out there and they're crushing it, and they make a lot of money, but you guys are gone every weekend… up all night. A lot of times, your set doesn't start till 1 or 2 a.m. I think I would be a great daytime pool DJ.'Related: Tom Schwartz Just Shared a Major Update on Tom Tom (PHOTOS) Elsewhere in the episode, Tom spoke about his experience working in hospitality and the challenges of owning a restaurant/bar. In December 2024, he and his former castmate Tom Sandoval announced they were closing Schwartz & Sandy's, the Franklin Village lounge they launched in 2022. 'I've had a really lovely life, I think up until Schwartz & Sandy's, which was my first real, real hard life lesson, life challenge,' he said. 'It almost broke me spiritually, mentally. I almost went broke financially. I lost so much money. But I think I needed it, in a twisted way. I think it made me into the person I am now. I just feel like I have so much more grit.' Tom said he poured so much time and energy into building the business, only to see it sink 'like the Titanic.' 'I think I still have more good memories than bad. Is that revisionist history? Maybe it is,' he said. 'It was such an underrated spot. I can say that objectively. I know I'm close to it, but, objectively, it was such a cool spot… just very expensive.' Related: Tom Schwartz Reveals Financial Drama "Almost Destroyed" Friendship with Tom Sandoval When asked if he had any advice for those looking to open a restaurant, Tom told listeners: 'Don't do it,' especially if they're trying to launch a spot in California. 'Honestly, I know this is not realistic for everyone, but if you can own your property and lease it out to yourself, that's the dream: You own the building, lease it to yourself,' he said. 'And, you guys, for the love of God, don't put your name on the side [of the building] unless you want to be there your every waking moment...I don't want to be that. I don't want to eat, sleep, breathe a bar or restaurant ever again.' While Schwartz & Sandy's is no more, Tom is still involved with TomTom, the WeHo bar/restaurant he co-owns with Tom Sandoval and Lisa Vanderpump. Find out what he's been up to at the business.

Vanderpump Rules original cast member calls Lisa's new reboot 'cheap'

has offered her honest opinion on the cast reboot for the upcoming 12th season of Bravo's Vanderpump Rules. The TV personality, 38 - who had been one of the original cast members on the reality series since 2013 - opened up about the topic on an episode of the Detox Retox podcast hosted by her ex-husband and former costar Tom Schwartz. Late last year in November, it was announced that the show would be getting an entirely new cast - with only Lisa Vanderpump returning. It came after the future of the series was left rocky amid a feuding cast. 'I was ready to walk away but it doesn't mean [I] don't care about our show and the legacy that we brought to it,' Katie told Schwartz - whom she was married to from 2013 until their divorce in 2022. She then added, 'I feel like this isn't against any of them. I don't know them but it just feels cheap to me. It feels cheap and I don't like cheap.' Maloney emphasized that she wasn't slamming the new cast, but instead wondered why the network just didn't create 'a whole different show.' She explained, 'To me it just feels like it's going try to have the same flavor, the same everything…. When you try to replicate the recipe just based off of taste, you can't do it.' The most recent 11th season - which finished airing last year - had featured Katie as well as Ariana Madix, Tom Sandoval, Tom Schwartz, Lala Kent, James Kennedy and Scheana Shay. However, episodes focused on the disputes and conflicts between the cast not long after Scandoval - where Sandoval cheated on his longtime girlfriend Ariana Madix with Rachel Leviss. The new cast will consist of 'close-knit SUR-vers who are as complicatedly involved with one another as their iconic predecessor,' per Bravo. Lisa expressed at the time of the reboot announcement: 'The last 12 years of filming have been an extraordinary run full of laughter, tears and everything in between. I can't thank enough those who have shared their lives. 'How I love you all. In the restaurant business, one shift always gives way to another. Cheers to the next generation of Vanderpump Rules.' The reboot will also 'celebrate the past decade of heartbreaks, friendship rifts and scandals with a retrospective special highlighting the past 11 seasons.' Sandoval also broke his silence after the news of the reboot was unveiled - and admitted on Instagram in November of last year that he was 'overwhelmed' with feelings. Lisa expressed at the time of the reboot announcement: 'The last 12 years of filming have been an extraordinary run full of laughter, tears and everything in between. I can't thank enough those who have shared their lives'; seen in 2024 in Beverly Hills 'Where do I begin… I'm overwhelmed with so many emotions right now… The unbelievable series of events that brought this group together still blows my mind to this day.' He added, 'From a random meeting with Jax [Taylor] while modeling in Miami, to responding to a Craigslist ad for another Tom looking for a roommate. 'Who would've thought that a stop along the way while chasing our dreams would turn into the cultural phenomenon that is Vanderpump Rules. We were unaware as to the effect this show would have on our lives.' Tom also told his followers, 'The foundation of Vanderpump Rules was built on pure honest raw emotions… triumphs, struggles, and love that happen between a group of real friends and our relationships.' In conclusion, the reality sent gratitude to those involved in the show as well as the fans. A few months earlier in February, Lisa revealed that the forthcoming season is set to feature some 'very interesting characters.' Vanderpump told Us Weekly she is convinced that the show's new stars will prove to be just as popular as the originals. 'I got some very interesting characters for sure, but SUR (her restaurant) has been around a long time, and as I say, it's a show we could have shot 12 months of the year,' she told the outlet. The restauranteur is convinced that the new cast will create lots of drama, too. She shared: 'When you have a restaurant, especially in Hollywood, with a revolving door of beautiful people who are all kind of normally rather large personalities because they come to Hollywood for a reason, it's always complicated.' The British TV personality went on, 'I am sure it's gonna be very different with these young little minxes when they get to work, but we shall see.' Lisa previously predicted that Vanderpump Rules would return with a 'different energy' for season 12. The reality star told E! News: 'I think everything we do is going to have a different energy to it. 'Not gonna try and compete with the old Vanderpump Rules. It's just gonna be totally different there. 'Still, we'll go back to the premise of the complications of running a restaurant and the staff in it. And that always has a story to tell.' Lisa shared that she had a 'wonderful experience' filming with the show's original cast. But she recognizes that now is the perfect time to make a change. Lisa shared that she had a 'wonderful experience' filming with the show's original cast. But she recognizes that now is the perfect time to make a change; cast seen back in 2018 She said: 'It was time to do something different. Stories were kind of closing up a little bit. I think people, they weren't that shocked that we decided to do this now.' Kristen Doute - who starred on Vanderpump Rules from 2013 until her exit in 2020 - also shared her thoughts on the cast reboot. 'I could not be happier not filming Vanderpump Rules,' she told Deadline earlier this month. 'Vanderpump Rules for me, was like the most toxic boyfriend, and if they hadn't broken up with me, I probably would have never left.' 9 Celebs Who Had The Most Absurd Reactions To Canada's Bagged Milk — Because Yep, Americans Know Nothing About Canada

Up here in Canada, we do a lot that seem to confuse the rest of the world. Like, I don't think anyone truly understands how to use the word "eh" correctly, even though it's very obvious to all of us Canadians. And another huge thing that's normal in Western Canada, but nonexistent almost everywhere else in the world? BAGGED MILK. Yep, you heard me right. MILK IN A BAG. So over the past year, we've been conducting an *experiment of sorts* over here at BuzzFeed Canada, to answer some vital questions. Can our favourite celebrities figure out how to pour bagged milk properly? And what are their general reactions to it? Today, we're gonna present alllll our fun results — which we've also been uploading on TikTok, in a series we like to call Milking It. Here we go: 1. The very first person we tested was Tom Schwartz, who you might know from Vanderpump Rules. He literally gasped when we gave him the bag, and said, "I've heard about this! It's a BAG of MILK." He was having a bit of a moment. A connection to the Canadian lifestyle. He proceeded to use the milk to make a beautiful espresso yeah, definitely didn't pour it right. "I think you just nip the corner?" He made a rookie mistake: cutting the corner and pouring the milk from the bag straight into the jug. Tom also fought the urge to "puncture it," which would've been kinda scary. BuzzFeed Our rating: 6/10, but only for the espresso martini. Otherwise this score would probably be much lower. My apologies for the bias. Watch the full video here! 2. Also from Vanderpump Rules, Jax Taylor was mostly confused. "I'm sorry, what's happening? Is this a thing?" he said, and proceeded to question why bagged milk was created in the first place. "Who's the marketing people who do this?" After some confusion, Jax actually figured it out! Kinda. The hole he cut was definitely too big, which caused some mess. He was also NOT happy with the functionality. "This is a lot of work. And now I gotta put it in the fridge like this?" But hey, he did better than most of the other celebs. BuzzFeed 3. I had high hopes for Alex Warren, mostly because I low-key loved the Hype House show. "I'm terrified to open this," he began, which I kinda get. "That's insane." But once he saw the bags WITHIN the bag, he was pretty confident. "I think I know how to open this now..." Alex made the same error of cutting the bag and pouring the milk into the carton. Of course, we called this out. "It's in the damn cup," he replied. "Now, I don't wanna say your way is inefficient..." but yeah, he kinda did insinuate that. It's OK, Alex. We can take it. BuzzFeed 4. Angie K from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City said my favourite thing ever: "My breast milk was in a bag like this." I LOL'D. She seemed a lot more enthusiastic about the concept than the previous celebs, which we love to see. "I bet the secret is to cut the corner," she said. So, yeah, she did cut the corner. But poured the milk directly from the bag into the cup, THEN the rest into the jug. "Look how beautiful! I'm so proud of myself right now," she said. But when we told her she did it wrong, she was shocked. "Why didn't I think of that?!" BuzzFeed Our rating: 4/10 for her method, but 10/10 for her attitude, because she was an absolute joy through the entire process. Watch the full video here! 5. Singer Alex Sampson is actually Canadian, so we took it up a notch for his test: we made him do it all BLINDFOLDED. "Oh no. This is gonna get everywhere." (And spoiler alert, yeah, it really did.) While he did struggle at first (um, he tried to put ALL THREE BAGS in one jug), he did pretty well until the actual pouring. "Not gonna spill a single drop...I think I spilled a single drop." We enjoyed watching him pour milk all over the counter. He was a good sport. BuzzFeed Our rating: 9.5/10. Anyone who pours milk all over their hands and keeps on going deserves a high score. He also took a sip at the end, which most other celebs didn't do. Watch the full video here! 6. We HAD to include an actual food expert in this list, so who better than Top Chef's very own Kristen Kish? She was confident from the very start. "In a bag. Yes, I do know that." And she got right to in a completely unique way. She begun by BITING (yes, BITING) the hole in the bag, and pouring the milk straight into the cup. Then, she placed the bag inside the carton. When we told her she did it wrong, she had to re-calibrate for a sec, and on her second try, she did actually get it right for the most part — although she did say it "makes no sense whatsoever." BuzzFeed Our rating: 8/10 for not giving up, and for being absolutely savage. I've never seen anyone BITE the milk bag before, and it made me cackle. Watch the full video here! 7. Finally, our most-recent (and most chaotic) edition of Milking It stars Kyle Cooke, Carl Radke, and West Wilson from Summer House. They were all SHOOK by the sheer concept alone. "What the hell?!" Kyle said. "What do Canadian cows look like?" West cut a hole in the outer bag, to which Kyle told him, "You have no idea what you're doing." Then, Carl proclaimed he had an idea, and emptied the milk from the bag into the jug (classic mistake). Everyone decided it was a RACE at that point, so all hell broke loose, all of them copying Carl's method. When we did show them the correct way to do it, they were fascinated. "No way," Carl said. BuzzFeed Non-Canadians, if you're still confused, you can check out each video and we'll lay it all out for you! Also, which celebrity do you wanna see on Milking It next? Tell us in the comments below, and we'll do our very best to make it happen!

Vanderpump Rules star Tom Schwartz shares update on his relationship

Tom Schwartz, former Vanderpump Rules star, recently shared an update on his love life, revealing that he is not currently "formally dating anyone." In a February 19, 2025 interview with Us Weekly, Schwartz, 42, confirmed that he's not in a serious relationship and is simply "hanging out." This comment seems to confirm the end of his relationship with Sophia Skoro, whom he started dating less than a year ago. Schwartz admitted that he spent Valentine's Day alone, doing "nothing" while in Minnesota. He humorously referred to the day as being spent with 'one of my first loves: the great state of Minnesota.' Despite meeting someone he enjoyed spending time with, Schwartz emphasized that dating was "the last thing on my mind," especially after the tumultuous two years he's had. Schwartz also reflected on his recent divorce from Vanderpump Rules co-star Katie Maloney, which was finalized in 2022. He admitted that the idea of falling in love, living with someone, and possibly discussing marriage or children felt "daunting." Though he acknowledged his growth, he clarified that he's not yet ready to take those significant steps in his personal life. Schwartz went public with his relationship with Skoro in April 2024, after meeting her at TomTom. While they appeared happy together, Schwartz's focus now seems to be on personal development and not rushing into another serious relationship.
