Tom Trtan: A look back at his legacy and life in broadcasting
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Former announcer, meteorologist and now co-host of Unscripted, Tom Trtan dropped by the KICK 92.3 FM studios to talk about how he became one of the most familiar faces on local television. The history radio show, Sharing Stories of the Crossroads, featured Trtan as a guest this week. Host John Sellars and Trtan have been friends for a long time, but this will be the first time he will be on the show. Tom Trtan is a seasoned television personality based in Springfield with a longstanding career at KOLR 10 and Ozarks Fox. The Great Tri-State Tornado 100 Years Later
March 18, 1925, gave birth to the deadliest tornado in United States history. 100 years ago, a tornado formed near Ellington, MO around 1 PM and stayed on the ground for 219 miles across Missouri and Illinois before lifting near Petersburg, Indiana. The tornado took 695 lives and injured over 2,000 people. Missouri is no stranger to deadly tornadoes. The most recent mass casualty tornado in Missouri was on May 22, 2011 when the Joplin tornado killed 158 people. Missouri also holds the spots for the first, third, and seventh deadliest tornadoes in the United States.
