Motocross 2025 450 results, highlights, finish at Hangtown: Jett Lawrence wins overall, Eli Tomac Moto 1

The potential for a perfect season came to a rapid end in Moto 1 of the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, California, after a slow start and excessive heat relegated Jett Lawrence to a third-place finish, but he surged to the top of the leaderboard in Moto 2 and earned the overall victory with a 3-1. The Moto 1 loss was one of the few times Jett has been beaten in head-to-head Pro Motocross competition, and the third time he lost a moto on this track. A hard crash in the 2024 Hangtown race dropped Lawrence to 24th in Moto 1, and the effect of that accident contributed to a sixth-place finish in Moto 2. He rebounded immediately to score the overall victory in the next three rounds with four moto wins and a pair of second-place results. Click here for a recap of Hangtown Aaron Plessinger lost track of the time on the clock late in the first moto and slowed, allowing Eli Tomac to blast past. Once he realized his mistake, the lost momentum was enough to put him in the clutches of third-place Jett. He was fortunate to fend off the 2023 Motocross champion and finish second in Moto 1. A third-place finish in Moto 2 after a fierce contest with Hunter Lawrence gave him the second position in the overall standings. Justin Cooper replicated his career-best moto finish in the second race of the Hangtown Motocross Classic, but a fourth-place result cost enough points to relegate him to third in the overall standings. Cooper finished third in two rounds last year, at Thunder Valley and Spring Creek. Relive Moto 1 As well as Moto 1 went for Tomac, the second race was the polar opposite. He got bumped coming out of the gate and entered Turn 1 in last place. Tomac charged through the field and was challenging for fifth with a realistic opportunity of catching up to second-place Cooper when he tucked a wheel and crashed. Tomac remounted in 12th, regained three positions to finish ninth, but the damage was done. He missed the podium by two positions (about 16 seconds) on the track. Hunter was part of last week's incredible podium that featured three riders returning from injury, but the effects of his shoulder problems in Supercross may not be completely gone. He rode well and swept the top five, but results of fifth in Moto 1 and fourth in Moto 2 combined to place him fifth overall in the standings. Cooper Webb finished seventh in both motos, earning 30 points, which allowed him to maintain his combined SuperMotocross League lead. Missing the race after the effects of his hard Round 1 crash dropped Chase Sexton to a 17-point deficit for the top seeding entering the playoffs. Hangtown Motocross 450 Moto 1: Aaron Plessinger leads early

Jett Lawrence started the 2025 Pro Motocross season with a sweep of the Round 1 motos at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. He hopes to keep his near-perfect Motocross record alive. Dan Beaver, In-Race Notes Aaron Plessinger cowboys up and took the early lead. Jett Lawrence and Hunter Lawrence are known for their great starts, so completing Lap 1 fourth and fifth was a disappointment. Justin Cooper also got a strong start and rode second for a lap before Eli Tomac took the position. Jett moved into third on Lap 3 and trails second-place Tomac by three seconds. Tomac was three seconds behind Plessinger. Hangtown Motocross betting, predictions, odds, picks, lines: Eli Tomac closes gap on Jett Lawrence

Jett Lawrence showed minimal movement between Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2025 Pro Motocross season, but intense competition with Eli Tomac last week narrowed the gap between the two favored riders. Jett opened with raw odds of -294 for the season opener at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. Frankly, he might have been an even more expensive proposition if not for the fact that he was returning from an ACL injury suffered early in the Monster Energy Supercross season. Jett led every lap of both motos, but failed to dominate Moto 2 under pressure from Tomac. Jett's odds for the Hangtown Classic in Rancho Cordova, California, remain in the minus range, but are slightly more attractive at -283. Dan Beaver, Tomac (+247) had more time to prepare for the Motocross season opener than Jett. His broken fibula was repaired, and training was initiated in time for him to compete in a couple of Supercross rounds, but he decided to focus on the outdoors. He posted a modest finish of fourth in Moto 1 at Fox before finding the right lines in the second race. Tomac did not let Jett out of his sight until the closing laps and even managed to get a wheel alongside the eventual winner. Historically, Hangtown is one of Tomac's best tracks and incidentally, the only MX course on which Jett has been beaten. The result of these factors is that a differential of 743 points between Jett and Tomac in Pala has shrunk to 530 for Hangtown. Hunter Lawrence (+558) is the only other rider under 10/1 in raw opening odds. Notably, all three riders on the podium last week in Pala were returning from injury, so there is still some residual concern about their performance. The question of whether Hunter found his limit in Round 1 remains to be answered. A huge gap appears between the third- and fourth-ranked riders in Round 2. Aaron Plessinger (+4032) is slightly over 40/1 and should garner some attention after sweeping the top five in Pala's pair of motos. He topped out with a podium in the second race, but was never a factor for the win. Bet modestly, if at all, for the overall victory. His podium odds are -139, so there isn't much juice to be squeezed. Justin Cooper's (+4731) runner-up finish in Moto 2 contributes to his fifth-place ranking in Hangtown. His eighth-place finish in Moto2 makes him a formidable proposition, however. His podium odds are minimally in the plus range at +151. Jorge Prado (+7199) is in a different category than the top five this week. With such a high return on investment of 71/1, bold bettors might wish to place a modest wager on an overall win, but his long odds for the victory drag his podium odds to +579, which is a much safer bet. Hangtown Motocross 2025 preview: Top finishes, previous winners, historic results, who to watch

Fitness will be put to the test this week at the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, California, with Round 2 of the 2025 Pro Motocross season, as temperatures are forecasted to exceed 100 degrees on race day. With five editions of the Hangtown Classic run before Pro Motocross took over the sanction, this is the oldest race on the schedule. Saturday will mark the 56th running of the event. The only time since 1974 that Hangtown failed to host an event was in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More questions surround this race than fans have had in recent seasons. Last week at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, Eli Tomac initiated 'Beast Mode' in Moto 2 and challenged Lawrence for most of that race. Near the end, Lawrence found his optimal line and stretched the advantage, but frankly, it's the most competition the 2023 champion has had in two years on an outdoor track. Jett Lawrence's crash at Hangtown in 2024 was the only time he failed to win a Pro Motocross overall. - Align Media Align Media Moreover, this is a track on which Tomac excels, having won three times in seven 450-class starts and once on a 250. No other active rider has more than a single 450 win. One reason for that is Lawrence's crash in last year's Hangtown Classic, which opened the opportunity for Chase Sexton to take the overall victory. The accident, on a downhill portion of the track, ended Lawrence's perfect start to his motocross career with 12 consecutive wins. On this track, Tomac is at his best in the second race with six Moto 2 wins in seven attempts, according to Dan Beaver, Tomac's last Hangtown victory came in 2018, so he needs to dig deep into his bag of tricks to become the first rider to outperform a healthy Lawrence on an outdoor track. Even with that last Hangtown victory coming half a decade ago, the field remains in awe of his accomplishments at this venue. His 2015 performance was legendary, featuring being the fastest qualifier by more than two seconds, leading both motos flag-to-flag, and winning Moto 2 by more than a minute and a half. In the post-race conference in Pala, Lawrence recalled watching this race as a 15-year-old phenom. 'I have this image of Eli smoking everyone by over a minute or something,' Lawrence said after last week's race. 'Right now, I'm going to have to go wipe my brain and make sure I get that out of my head and be confident.' Lawrence has never raced Tomac in the Hangtown event. In fact, until last week, the two riders had never raced one another in Pro Motocross due to injuries. Lawrence's overall domination continues. After leading every lap of Round 1, he has now done so in 65 percent of his attempts. Statistics such as those tend to put the competition on their collective back wheels. With the competition devolving into who will be positioned to run second to Lawrence, Justin Cooper tossed his hat into the ring. Last week's second-place finish in Moto 1 was a career-best for him after running third six times in 2024. He could be one of the most pleasant surprises of the first half of the season. SuperMotocross teams are notoriously reticent to alert the media to injury, so midway through the week, it is uncertain if Chase Sexton will line up this weekend. Regardless, he holds the distinction of being the rider with the worst record of any champion who lined up for Round 1 in his title defense. Sexton's crash in Moto 1 injured his shoulder and kept him from racing in Moto 2. He failed to earn a single point. In the 250 division, Haiden Deegan picked up where he left off in 2024 by sweeping the motos at Pala for the second time in his career. But that was the only time in his career that Deegan swept the weekend, although he finished first or second in every moto of the following four rounds. He lost one of these rounds when Ty Masterpool scored the tiebreaking second moto win at High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania. Jo Shimoda's second-place overall finish and runner-up results in both motos marked his best start to a Motocross season. Earlier this year, he had a career-best start in Supercross with his Anaheim 1 victory. The Women's Pro Motocross (WMX) season continues into Round 2 at Hangtown, and it is likely to be a battle between La La and Kay Kay. The defending WMX champion, Lachlan Turner, finished second to Mikayla Nielsen in Round 1. Both riders won a moto in Pala. Motocross 2025 450 results, highlights, finish at Fox Raceway in Pala: Jett Lawrence sweeps

Eli Tomac pressured the leader throughout Moto 2 at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, but ultimately the result was the same as the past two years: Jett Lawrence led every lap and swept the motos to remain perfect on this track. He has never lost a 450 moto or an overall in either class. With the 1-1 victory over Tomac, Jett has won 16 of 17 Pro Motocross races he's entered in the 450 class. It remains to be seen how soon it will be until someone challenges his dominance. Jett is 15th in the combined SuperMotocross League standings with a 259-point differential to the lead after missing much of the 2025 Supercross season to injury. Click here for a recap of Fox Raceway Tomac also returned from injury ahead of his second-place overall standing in the Fox Raceway Nationals. He had more time on the bike than Jett and fewer questions hovered over his head, but one is not entirely certain of one's strength until the race is run. Tomac finished fourth in the first race and was second in Moto. Tomac was the first rider since Chase Sexton in 2023 to pressure Lawrence deep into a Pala race. The series moves to Hangtown next week, one of Tomac's best courses. Hunter Lawrence carried the theme of dominating after returning from injury. He finished third in the first race and fourth in Moto 2, scoring two fewer points than Tomac. Early indications are that these will be the three riders to watch closest in the Pro Motocross season's first quarter. Hunter moved into the top 20 in combined SuperMotocross points, sitting 18th with a 35-point cushion over the bubble. Relive Moto 1 Many of Aaron Plessinger's best finishes in the first half of the SuperMotocross League season came after the three riders who finished ahead of him departed the Monster Energy Supercross series. The confidence earned in the second half of Supercross carried into Motocross. He nipped Hunter on the last lap to earn a podium in Moto 2. Along with his fourth-place finish in the first race, that put him fourth overall. Justin Cooper also gained a lot of confidence at the end of Supercross. He was on the podium in the first Fox Nationals race with a second-place finish, but failed to back it up. After finishing eighth in Moto 2, Cooper earned 36 points and was scored fifth overall. Just outside the top five, Jorge Prado [7-6] got a solid start in the Pro Motocross season. It is easy to imagine him standing on the podium sometime during the next 20 races. Dan Beaver, The top two Supercross finishers struggled in Pala. Cooper Webb's engine expired before the end of Moto 1, denying him any points. The team replaced virtually everything on the bike, and Webb finished seventh in Moto 2, but he starts the season with a 35-point gap on the leader in Motocross points. Webb maintains the lead in combined SuperMotocross League points by 17 over Chase Sexton. The news was even worse for Sexton. He took a rock to his goggles in Moto 1, discarded them, and eventually crashed with limited visibility from the dust the goggle were intended to block. He was too injured to mount up for Moto 2 and earned zero points for the round. Questions remain as to whether he will be healthy for Hangtown.
