Saudi clubs take interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach pariah Tomas Cvancara

Czech striker Tomas Cvancara's very public rift with his Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach almost certainly heralds a departure this summer. Germany's Niederrheiner have little to-no-interest in retaining him, even amid news that starting striker Tim Kleindienst might miss the beginning of the season. Two reliable German sources – RTL/ntv and Sport1 – report that there's interest from the Arabian Peninsula. An unnamed Saudi Pro League side could help Gladbach recoup some of the €10.5m they once paid for their intended replacement for Marcus Thuram. Advertisement Having scored just six goals in 49 Bundesliga appearances over the last two seasons, Cvancara's estimated market value has plummeted from €12m to €4m. Gladbach have other options in mind for the attacking corps and will hope to shed themselves of their team pariah quickly. Sport1 does note that Cvancara himself still considers himself worthy of one of Europe's top five leagues. Whether or not a Serie A, Ligue 1, the Premier League, or La Liga suitor can be found nevertheless remains to be seen. GGFN | Peter Weis

'Promises not fulfilled': Cvancara seeks Mönchengladbach exit

Borussia Moenchengladbach's Tomas Cvancara leaves the pitch after receiving a yellow-red card during the German Bundesliga soccer match between Borussia Moenchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund at Stadion im Borussia-Park. Federico Gambarini/dpa Borussia Mönchengladbach forward Tomas Cvancara has hit out at the Bundesliga club and seeks a summer transfer because he doesn't feel treated in a fair way. Czech Cvancara said on Instagram on Wednesday that he had asked for a January loan to get more matches in the wake of injury which he said "was not granted and instead I got promises that were not fulfilled." Advertisement The 24-year-old came to Gladbach in 2023 and has a contract until 2028. He did not share what kind of promises were not fulfilled but he appears not satisfied because he is not a regular starter and mainly used as a winger instead of a centre forward. He has two goals from 26 appearances, and one dismissal. As a result, he said he would a summer exit. "Even though I was not convinced of my role and I was not happy with it I always left 100% on the pitch and the best I could give to the team at the moment," he said. "The fact that someone started to mind when the club stopped doing well, that I wanted to leave in the winter, and I have the same plan in the summer, is just as funny as the fact that someone told the media." Advertisement The Sport Bild weekly reported that team-mates had asked coach Gerardo Seoane ahead of a recent 4-3 defeat at Holstein Kiel not to field Cvancara because of a lack of dedication. Gladbach have claimed just two points from their last five games and in ninth place are all but out of contention for a place in Europe. They visit freshly crowned champions Bayern Munich on the penultimate matchday Saturday.
