The 'magical' Scottish castle Mary Queen of Scots visited you can stay in this summer

A Scottish castle that was once visited by Mary, Queen of Scots, is available to rent out for a holiday. One recent guest described the unique property as "magical and historic".
Neidpath Castle is an L-plan rubble-built tower house in the Scottish Borders, around one mile outside of the town of Peebles. It has a history dating back all the way to the 13th century.
A suite at the castle can currently be booked through Airbnb. The accommodation, which sleeps up to two guests, is priced at £456 per night.
The space is comprised of an antique four poster bed, a deep roll top bath, and an open fire. Elsewhere, there is a small kitchenette with a fridge, a kettle, and provisions for a continental breakfast.
According to the Airbnb listing, an "elegant table" is set for breakfast. Meanwhile, dinner can be served by prior arrangement and is subject to availability of the private chef.
During their stay, guests can explore the whole of Neidpath Castle at their leisure. The castle is notable for being visited by Mary, Queen of Scots in 1563 and by her son James VI in 1587.
Pets are welcome at the castle for an additional fee of £35 per pet. However, animals must be kept under close supervision to avoid damage to the Grade A listed building.
Peebles is approximately 10 minutes from Neidpath Castle on foot. The town is home to various shops and restaurants, as well as a museum and an award-winning chocolatier.
In terms of other accommodations in the area, the three-star Tontine Hotel is one of the most popular hotels in Peebles. Elsewhere, Barns Tower is another castle in the Scottish Borders that can be rented out through Airbnb.
On Airbnb, Neidpath Castle has an impressive overall rating of 4.96 out of five. With 168 reviews, it has been described as "one of the most loved homes" on the website.
One recent guest shared: "A dream come true. So magical and historic. Having access to explore the entire castle alone with my wife was something I will never forget.
"The bed was wonderfully perfect and comfortable. I wish I could have stayed there forever."
A slightly less positive review states: "Amazing and unique experience, warm welcome but pretty basic facilities."
Another happy visitor posted: "Far beyond our expectations. The pictures just can't describe how beautiful and unique our experience was.
"How often do you get the chance to stay in a castle?! Castle old but still comfortable to stay in for today's standards and made me feel just like a queen!"
