Breakfast trio suffer huge drop in latest radio figures

Two of Perth's most popular FM radio stations have haemorrhaged listeners, led by a breakfast tune out. Nova FM and 96FM both recorded drops in their audience share of more than two percentage points, in the latest radio ratings out on Tuesday. The biggest change from the latest GFK ratings report — covering the period from April to July — was Nova's breakfast trio Nathan Morris, Nat Locke and Shaun McManus' four per cent drop in audience to 15.5 per cent. The FM station recorded drops across all its daytime programming, as did 96FM, which still held its rank as Perth's most listened to radio station. Nova however lost its spot in second, dethroned by Mix 94.5, which rose to an audience share of 12.8 per cent. 'Something happened in my personal life that was one of these monumental things that happens that you can't really process,' he said. 'Something comes in that's so different no one has gone through it, no one can give you advice. 'It started back last year and reared again this year. I can't speak too much about it because there is legal proceedings that's got nothing to do with me but I cannot speak about it because of that.' Triple M soared by 1.6 per cent, while youth radio station Triple J grew by 1 per cent across its' weekday offerings. Breakfast host Mark Gibson dropped 0.2 per cent, while Afternoons' Jo Trilling saw her audience fall to 3.6 per cent, the lowest point so far this year. 6PR defector and new ABC Drive host Gary Adshead grew his share by 0.3 per cent, consolidating his late afternoon time slot. While 6PR's breakfast duo of Steve Mills and Karl Langdon were hit by a near 1 percentage point fall in their share to 8.3 per cent, Mornings host Simon Beaumont recorded a rise of 1.6 per cent to 8.3 per cent

Where's Tony Galati? Spud king kicks of WA Day celebrations

A gaggle of Galati's at Nova's Tony Galati party. Picture: Matt Jelonek / The West Australian The WA Day long weekend kicked off with a rooftop party in the Perth CBD celebrating the one and only spud king Tony Galati. Nova 93.7 winners gathered on the Stories rooftop, all dressed as the man, the myth, the mullet himself and of course, didn't forget the bushy eyebrows. Hosted by Nathan, Nat & Shaun, the night was packed with laughs, legendary looks, and plenty of potatoes. From fake brows to flannel shirts, the costume effort was next level – and the photo booth? Pure gold. Shoutout to Chantell Tracey from Caversham, who walked away $5000 richer (and possibly with a new appreciation for denim). The Spudshed team bought the Galati magic for an unforgettable night of fun, fries, and WA pride.

‘Crazy cheap' supermarket to open in WA city

Kalgoorlie-Boulder will benefit from Spudshed's 'crazy cheap' produce in coming months following a surprise expansion announcement from the family-run supermarket chain. Spudshed owner Tony Galati confirmed on social media on Thursday that the independent supermarket chain would open in Kalgoorlie-Boulder within three months. 'I've got some really exciting news on behalf of myself, my family, and all my staff,' he said in the video. 'I'm hearing the voices out there that you want us to come to regional areas and we've targeted Kalgoorlie. 'We are coming to Kalgoorlie very soon. So, look out guys, we will be there in the next two to three months. 'I'm excited to bring you the crazy cheap prices that Spudshed is known for. 'Stay tuned. Kalgoorlie, we will see you soon.' Kalgoorlie-Boulder mayor Glenn Wilson said this announcement was a 'notable outcome' for the city. 'The city has been in discussions with Mr Galati and the Spudshed team for a number of years — as far back as 2018— and we're excited to see this vision become a reality,' he said. 'We are fortunate to have established, community-focused fresh produce providers who proudly offer WA products. 'The decision of another respected brand to invest here is a strong vote of confidence in our city. 'The economic investment and job opportunities that come with this new store are a welcome boost for our community and shows that Kalgoorlie-Boulder is a great place to invest, live, and work.' The move represents the furthest expansion away from the metropolitan area for the business, which is expected to open a store in Bunbury later this month. In 2018, Tony Galati told the Kalgoorlie Miner he had visited the town and was 'eyeing off' an expansion to the city, but not for a few years. The recent announcement comes two years after German discount supermarket giant Aldi pulled the plug on its plans to open in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Aldi brought the site of the old Kmart and Coles building on Brookman Street from Harbig Properties in 2021 with plans to build the supermarket on one half, and selling the other half to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. But in June 2023 it was confirmed by then-mayor John Bowler that Aldi had pulled the plug due to inflation making it less cost effective for the supermarket to maintain its Australia-wide pricing policy.
